*How did you do that, Horetore? Oh please tell us!!*

Alright, I.... quit tobacco!! In about 9 hours, I will have gone 14 days since my last "prell".

I haven't quit for health reasons though, no, my reason is purely financial; I use 20.000 NOK each year on tobacco! That's roughly 3389 USD. I calculated that for the first time two weeks ago and haven't touched the stuff since.

It's been quite the roller-coaster since then, with rather frequent mood swings, but it's been a heck of a lot easier than I thought!

Poster here rather than the frontroom due to the possibility that it will derail into a discussion of tobacco taxes or gun rights...

Congratulations man! They've jacked up the taxes on tobacco so much over here, its a real investment to continue using the stuff.

I came here expecting a tutorial on how to stick it to your employers. Thread disappoints.

No but seriously, good on you. It's not nearly the same, but I could probably save a lot if I stopped driniking so much Coke and switched to water.

One box of tobacco(45g) costs about 75 NOK/12.70 USD on average. I went through between 5 and 6 boxes each week...

This is why people who smoke do it for stupid reasons, and not just because they want to buy themselves cancer either. They want to buy themselves cancer and go into debt too.

Congrats man, hopefully I will go down that road soon. The downside is that cigarettes in Serbia are disgustingly cheap so there is much less incentive financially.

A very educated decision...

Well done you!

*then the question pops up, why did you wanna start? you wanted to be as cool as those 7 year old africans with marlboro in their mouths?*

First of all, I never smoked no cigarette. I used snus. Secondly, i got addicted because nicotine is FREAKIN' HEAVENLY!!! I can't imagine how I would've gotten through the military without having some snus to bake and enjoy to take the bottomless boredom away...

Congratulations! Extra money going into savings or bills/goodies?

Right now; chewing gum. I'm eating them like crazy to take teh painz away. After that, yeah, it'll go into savings. I already life my life as comfortable as I want, any additional money will be added to what I already tuck away for future use.

I'd rather have "half a litre", you imperial heretic.

Congratulations!

Have you got any tips on how to actually encourage others to make the same decision? There are people I know who I'd really like to stop smoking, but I'm afraid that nagging and preaching only makes things worse.

The Missus quit almost 4 years ago, after being a cigarette smoker for 10 years. Now, when I buy a carton or 8, she happily declares "Ohhh! Extra spending money for me!" and takes the equal amount out of our checking account, treating it as 'found money' since she didn't spend it on smokes.

Good show, HoreTore.

ROFL, what?! I thought you was the nationalist, I mean, even considering our royal pound is so worthless to the dollar.

£250 is akin to $380-400
