View Full Version : that's some wierd stuff.
just yesterday, I had the wierdest dreams EVER:
the first dream was when I was flirting openly with a girl from speech class who happened to be next to me, while attending a geology club. and oddly, the girl took a liking to it-so did the members. they were cheering me on, and she was laughing and smiling. I myself don't remember what I said, only that she took a liking to it. there was no kissing, sex, or anything-just words.
I find it disturbing, as I don't really give a damn about girls-haven't since Alyssa (see my sig)-that and I still don't care, even after this wierd scene..
the second one was when I was meeting with another Arab in the aftermath of an alien attack on a spaceship by a giant halo-esque style grey robot (I know, I know..), in the suburbs of what I can only assume to be ft.Collins-where I currently live and study. As I reached the address' patio which had a roof to it, and walls on the sides, the ground gave way (the pit was bottomless from the looks of it), and I jumped up to grap hold of some beam. I couldn't jump back because it was too far, and I couldn't go to the sides or front ecause there was too little room.
knowing he was an arab, I screamed for help in Arabic-no response. I scream for 15 minutes, until I switch to english. finally, the man comes out, gives me a hand, and leads in inside. on being asked why he didn't help initially, he answered: "I'm from Algeria-I didn't understand your dialect of Arabic." the dream ended with him just starting to debrief me about the Alien menace.
oh, did I mention that there were rage monkeys in dream 2, when the spaceship is attacked?
seriously, I must e losing it.

Arabs and Berber (a collection of diffrent indigenous people) are the largest ethnic groups, not sure which is the largest group of the two.

According to wikipedia the Algerian population is circa 33 millions and the berber population consist of 4 millions. :book:
Not sure how much I trust wikipedia on this one though.

the people along the coast a mix of Arabs, settlers from other areas, and berbers. the desert is purely Berber territory. the reason that is so is because the Arabs settled in the cities after they had conquered them. they even founded a few: Qayruwan, in Tunis, and Tunis city itself, are both Arab in origin. they also settled in Lybia, Tunis, morocco, Mauritania, western sahara, and even Spain, siciliy, and malta (hence the language known as maltese). but it is worth pointing out that they were never the majority-just a minority that influenced their neighbors.
as a result, Algerians do speak arabic-allbeit a dialect that is unintelligeable to me (my dialect is a levantine one). and no, you don't have to be from the peninsula. I'm considered an Arab, since I'm descended from Arabs who, if I get my grandparents, settled in northern Iraq, and later Palestine/Israel. they also mentioned that the founder of my family, Zallum, fought in Saladin's Army. there is also a place (http://www.maplandia.com/saudi-arabia/jawf/zallum/)in Saudi Arabia with that name.

yes and no- yes, I can't understnd a word out of anyone west of Benghazi (and vice versa). and between the nile and Benghazi, its kinda hard to understand. Maltese is in fact easier to understand than western arabic dialects. but no, its not because of french; my dialect has many french words, as does Algerian (grafe/grafa, salon, telefon, tilfesion, taxi, beskalet*, balkone , etc, all came from french. yes, even taxi). its actually because of berber influence. in berber languages, they tend to shorten, or drop some vowels in arabic, so ikbeer (big) in leventine is kbir in moroccan. the results can be a bit messy...
as to my medieval origins: I believe them, but I lack the evidence to be certain. what they do say is however in line with the rest of my family history that I have evidence for: a religious/political role in Ottoman times, pro-caliphate/PLO pamphleteers (like my distant relative, abd al-qadeem zallum), the strong military ideals (chivalry, honor, etc), to today. but if I do have eivdence to confirm my family stories, I'm gonna be real impressed, for as you say, few people can trace their lineage 900 years back.

The furthest back I could trace my origins was to some German farmers in the Ukraine, and to some northern irish dissidents sick of being blow'd up by the IRA. I'd say you're pretty lucky that you even have an idea of your origins.

it does, but as I said, it itself is not a hinderence, as many of these words are also in levantine arabic. its mostly-as I said-down to pronunciation.

i identify with only a few of those places though as other amounts are minuscule. It annoys me when so many americans wonder whether they were royalty in Europe. The closest we are to famous is my fathers delusions and the likelihood of being a second son of some petty lord in Ireland (if my name is right)

ok, things got really wierd. and I mean literally wierd, as in real life, while awake:
I got a letter, probably a practical joke, with this written (complete with misspelles). it was under my door sill, and came with a lump of Chocolate:

and on that page, it was postdated "MarcH 11th 2010". today is march 6th, 1 day away from my birthday.
on the opposite side, it has a picture of a bunny-horse-guy thingy, saying "RiSe AND SHiNE IBE!, and near that thingy, there is a picture of a cresent moon with a guy holding a fishing line, pulling up a fish he somehow managed to pull up from Earth.

Maybe it came from the girl in your dream. Your dream was meant to warn you of the horrors that were to come.
Whatever the case, I suggest that you barricade your dwelling, arm yourself, and sleep with one eye open (it kinda hurts, but it's worth it). You've got a grade-A psycho here. Or just a grade-A jerk.
On the subject of dreams, I once had a dream that I was riding a pterodactyl through large hallways. I've also had dreams that accurately predict certain things happening the next day, dreams about disappearing and reappearing cats, dreams about girls on the bus that don't want to talk to me, and dreams about myself being mauled by large dogs. Fun stuff.
