View Full Version : Does a unit Auto resize to fit a horse change?
Ask the Topic says, if I change the horse under a rider, does the rider get auto resized to fit the horse? I thought he did.
I have acutally not run into this before, but i noticed my Klivanarioi sits above it's horse.
Was testing LK's unit of the same name. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
He uses the same EEuroCav as me for the rider, but not the same horse.
anyway, would be glad to clear this up as now I see it, the more I hate it.
thank you

There is no 'Auto' process for this. Note that this is a question of positioning - not resizing/rescaling.
Think of the Mounts (ignoring camels) as 2 pairs -
- LiHorse/EHorse
- ArmHorse/KHorse
Each of these pairs of mounts have very similar xy-origins specified for the actions/camera-angles.
All Cavalry figure images have xy-origins that match the xy-origins of EITHER the 1st OR the 2nd pair of mounts(more or less). Hence your EEuroCav BIF will match the mounts EHorse and LiHorse, but NOT ArmHorse and KHorse.
You cannot change the Mount xy-origins. You can change the figure xy-origins to fit the mount but if you do this you have a 2nd problem in that all weapons/shields positions for the figure must also be amended (as you've change the xy-origins!http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif.
(BTW: this info is coming in the next "Animations" writeup - still finishing it!http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
I can do this automaticaly - within the utility I'm currently writing - which repositions everything OK. If you want I'll extract the necessary routines that do this, package it up quickly and post it for download. Then you should beto use to automatically reposition cavalry images relative to any mount, and all weapons/shields positions relative to the figure.
Let me know and I'll download something.

So what is exactly the problem with the Klivanarioi
that I put out?I thought they looked ok.
I didn't do anything to the camera angle.
I know the angles are not the same but
it did not seem to matter in this case.
I'm not sure why but I thought if
it works why fix it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Hmm... it would certainly be great to be able to resize horses. Giants for Chiv and Gothic Knights and quite small ones for Hobilars, Steppe cav and Mongol Horse Archers.

LK,
I think Fenir changed the horse BIF (in Prod11) and is puzzled as why all cavalry figures don't fit all horses. I don't there is anything wrong with the New Units you created.

I wouldn't go that far but with this unit
I think it's as good as gets in MTW for the description
so don't waste your time Fenir doing you head
in with the coords on this one.
The only thing wrong with these guys are the stats.
Welly just gave you a thousand reasons why not to do
it also.We can get back to that later.

hehehehehe Lord Krazy, there is nothing wrong with your Unit, but The Klivanrioi that I made, used a KHorse for the EEuroCav, it looked nicer :P~
Though it wasn't until three days ago that I realised it sits far to high.
Wellington, i would be very greatful for those routines to re-position the Man and Horse, etc...
Yes, I noticed when I compared all the positioning files that 2 horses suite each other. EHorse+LiHorse and the ArmHorse and KHorse. Which is quite annoying.
I did try playing with the positioning until i realised it was throwing all the weapons and shields out of sync with the unit itself. After which I gave up :P~

Aaawwwwwww, I can't help it I am an accountant, I am anal about this sort of thing.
*fenir goes back to counting the number of spies in each province and checking that each army is exactly the same*
On a side note....
It will be great if we can "Auto" re-size units to fit different things, as this will give us a mulitude of combinations to which we can create even more units http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Even more distinctive ones.

*oh that "2" hasn't got the wrong 30degree curve along the top, hmmm better redo that whole page*

Fenir do you want a knights horse or an armoured
horse?
I'm getting confused, as I'm not an expert on
Byzantine units I was going by description.
If you want armoured archers well
we only got one option that's eeurocav
these are suitable for Ehorse which has armour.
You could spend a week or two to rewrite
for Khorse but hell thats a lot of work for a unit
at this stage.
Anyway it's your call http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I have changed the horse so many times i forget.
But you do have a point, I should perhaps back away from the eye candy unit, and re-produce a more historically correct look as much as possible.
Though i still would like to try and reposition a Khorse on a EEuroCav.
hmmm damn, now my unit looks like your unit. aaawwwww no one will know the hours I cried into it during development.
