Hello there, everyone.

This is my first post around here, and as such I'd like to start with a light-hearted thread with a light-hearted, possibly humorous question.

If you can cosplay as an EB unit for a day, which one would you be? While this sounds oddly similar to historical reenactment, I'd coin it cosplay, just because. No Gaesatae, for obvious reasons of course.

(If this post breaks any rule, please disregard it.)

Thank you for your attention.

The Lorica segmentata does not appear in the EB time-frame! it became widly used in the first century AD (If I'm not mistaking) the Lorica Hamata was mostly used before (wait... lorica hamata, it was the roman chainmail he? I don't wanna say stupidity!) that is why you won't find any Lorica segmentata in EB game

Well, that blows. I have no idea what I'd be then.

Yeah, I had the same down when i first played EB and saw no segmentata... But Principes are cool as hell still, even with the hamata. They didn't included the segmentata for historical reason...

I guess I'd me Pezhetaroi or whatever the heaviest infantry is.

Wikipedia claims Segmentata may have been used as early as 9 B.C., though I'm sure the professional historians may disagree.

The currently accepted range for the use of the armour is from about 9 B.C. (Dangstetten) to the late 3rd century A.D. (León). Its use was geographically widespread but chain mail may have been more common at all times.

As I do not want to die painfully or be horribly mutilated I would rather be a "diplomat"
If I have to choose among the soldiers, the life of a roman aristocrat (Equites Consulares) or a Persian nobleman (Sahigan Pahr) does seem comparatively appealing to me, though. :charge:

i agree with you, it may have been used since 9 bc. the point is that it wasn't widespread, and that from the bigenning wasn't a common sight among legions... but anyhow, I am no historians, and many here on this forum can give you much more convincing and thruthful arguments than mine!!! :)

@ Marvin... that Diplomat is the greatest unit ever to be chosen! hahahahahaha! Thumbs ups!

I think Lorica Segmentata would be issued to new recruits (probably those recruited in central Italy around Rome) starting from 9 BC. But legionaries already in service would just keep their chainmail. The cost of armour was taken out of a legionary's pay, so no legionary would want to buy a very expensive new set of armour unless he had no choice. (Legionaries would rather spend their pay on drink and women, like all soldiers.)

If I could make a mod, I'd make a Lorica Segmenta mod that puts a new lmperial Legionary unit in the game from 9 BC onwards, but the unit is only recruitable in the city of Rome itself, nowhere else. So you could recruit only a few LS-equipped legionaries before the game ends in 1 AD.

I'll think I'll grab my favourite axe (was a old timber-axe or something... I get that long ago under the dusty roof, ends up resharpened it and used that thing for butchering chickens... so at least I can say that my axe allready tasted blood :clown:), using bike helmet, made a multiplex shield, and pretend I was teceitos.....
