hello fellow EB friends and fans. i took some screenshots, who appears in TGA's format, and thus i can't view them, i took them before using FRAPS. Is there a way to convert them in a format that could see them? some of them can do nice Demotivators! I never NEVER took any screenshots, from anything, on a game... so I'm kinda no0b in the domain :idea2:

Any help?

Do you have gimp (http://www.gimp.org/)? It's sort of a poor man's photoshop, and is free to download. If you open TGA's with gimp, you can go to "save as" and erase the .tga and replace it with .jpg. Voila, you got a JPEG image!

GIMP was made by and for pimps 'round the world. I use it where I don't have access to Photoshop. I never use it for my photographs, but it sure comes in handy when working on various formats.

Duguntz you can delete your TGAs. They are useless. When you take a screenshot with the Rome engine while anti-aliasing is enabled you will have black-shots for results. Sorry bud. You want anti-aliased pretty-shots? Use Fraps.

Eeeehhh, I have Fraps also... still, don't understand how it's working... i mean, what does it make, appart of putting some annoying yellow number in the top of my screen?

Take the frame-rate overlay off by repeatedly pressing F12. Take screenshots using F10 and vidshots using F9.

GIMP is quite an unfortunate name.

I don't know how the product is though, I have photoshop and always manage with print screen.

But what I wanted to ask, what is anti-aliasing? I never changed any setting of it, I do not know what it does and never faced any problems like black shots. What reason would somebody have to turn it on? Thanks.

Assuming you don't know much about anti-aliasing as there's no reason for you to play dumb here. Have you ever zoomed in on graphics and seen choppy blocks on the edges that arise from the pixels? Anti-aliasing is a way of reducing those artifacts. I won't get into details. You may have some problems with gamma-compressed formats and I think JPEG is one of them. I personally take shots using the PNG format (game shots, not real photographs haha, those I take RAW).

so the entire plate making assembly (me included) of www.kronoskaf.com are pimps?

I will take the stance of the tunisian govt. on this.

anyways: you don't necessarily need GIMP to see TGA's. as long as you turn off anti-aliasing, you shouldn't have a problem seeing it. if you do have it on, you need FRAPS.

the black screen shot issue usually happens with nvidia video cards. the solution is to disable antialyasing in rtw and enable it via the nvidia control panel and set it to override game settings. you can even set it up to x16

I have a Nvidia Geforce on my PC and laptop, never had black screen problems.

it doesnt always happen but when it does it seems to always involve an nvidia card and not using an outside app like FRAPS to take the screen shot

I don't know how long GIMP takes to start up, but if it's anything like photoshop, it's a bit too long if you're only going to change a file to something else.

You can use Irfanview to open them up as well, and it's basically a replacement for MS Paint.

it takes less than a minute; usually round 10-20 sec. I have a registry mess atm, due to virus*, and a heavy workload (I'm writing up an inventory of dinosaurs, taking info from www.dinodata.org , and archive files of www.jpinstitute.com** .), so it takes round 30 sec.

in case anyone's wondering, I'm collecting dinosaur information so as to write a future paper on dinosaur distribution.
