View Full Version : I'm OVER 9000! (posts) / Things You've Contributed to the Org

This is my nine thousandth and first post at the org since I joined almost seven years ago.
What a wild ride! Well, not really. But interesting at times.
So I thought I'd link to two of the most long lived-threads I've started.
The thread that brought mount and blade to the org; Sweet Realistic Medieval Combat (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?48444-Sweet-Realistic-Medieval-Combat-%28Mount-and-Blade%29). I discovered mount and blade on a lord of the rings mod for MTW site waaaaaaaaaaaaay back in 2005. I bought it soon after and have loved it ever since.
And the annually resurrected thread, International Talk Like a Pirate Day. (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=54244) Not anywhere near the post level of the mount and blade thread, though it was also started in 2005.
Good times where had in both threads.
So, my fellow orgahs, what are your most prized contributions to the Org?
I look forward to the responses. For now, I will return to drinking Guinness.

The entire 15-month run of KOTR (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=82780) was an amazing ride that created many good memories and, try as we might, hasn't been able to be replicated ever since. I'm especially proud of the fact that I was able to successfully pinch-hit for econ21 and close it out in style with the Battle of Trent (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?100878-The-Battle-of-Trent&p=1866949#post1866949).
And of course, I'm still shocked about how successful Mafia has been. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine a little party game would become this big on the .Org.
Many happy returns, and let's hope you stick around for 9,000 more posts (and then some), CR! :medievalcheers:
Congratulations, CR. Normally I'd merge this with the Post Count thread, but since this is also a what-are-you-proud-of topic, I'll let it stand on its own.
As for my contributions, I figure the only thing of lasting worth that I've ever done at the Org was to found the News of the Weird (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?80840-News-of-the-Weird) Thread. All else is chaff and sic transit gloria mundi.

An ambulance, two leprechauns, an ass strapped on backwards, on what is probably a guy, a distraught rabbit. And in the background one suspicious yet familiar looking Rabbit who's no doubt the behind all of this...
It's a real pleasure to have you here, CR
Congrats on the 9000 posts :2thumbsup:
As for what I'm proud of here at the .Org: the large mafia games I hosted: Trapped in Taormina, The Scourge of Ephesus and Swords in the Moon.

Actually, I think those are Oompa-Loompas.
Congrats, Crazed Rabbit. 9000 posts, and without the spam like Gregoshi says, is pretty impressive. Can't really say I've done anything impressive on the forums, no epic threads to my name. The wiki is probably my only worthwhile contribution.

Guess I didn't answer the OP question. My most prized contribution was the time spent as moderator of the Entrance Hall back when the mortar in the walls hadn't hardened yet and the paint on the gate was still wet. I got to meet a lot of great new Orgahs before they dispersed into the various forums. Of course, that was back in the day when new patrons could post nowhere else but the EH until promoted. Times change.

i dont think ive contributed anything really. besides arguing in the backroom.
Well Done CR :balloon2:
As your all aware, I haven't contributed very much at all.
The few notable things being the yearly public profile competitions (Is it even possible to edit your profile anymore) and beginning the signature thread (which was un-sticked and dwindled into nothing  ).

WHAT 9000?!?!?!
I can't really say I've contributed anything to the Org. I've played in a lot of mafia games and hosted a couple. Other than that it's been just a bunch of spam. Not sure why I'm a senior member either really.

Most of my stuff has been in the gameroom. Won my second game as mafioso, surviving all the way through was pretty fun. Most of my best moments were winning games as mafioso. Now, if I'd only been 3 minutes faster on getting a PM to GH. Stupid carnival... 'Nuther fun moment was the first time a Necromancer got busted out in Netherworld to bring Sigurd back. Nowadays, I get to be the Good Cop to GH and Sigurd's Bad Cops.
Used to contribute a bit to the Main Hall, but alas, it was on its last legs when I got here. Had a good discussion in the backroom once with Sasaki over human rights, not much besides that though.

Congratulations CR!:balloon2:
Havn't done much except contributing a little to the gameroom community.
What I've done in God Father III was my best I guess but I didn't win and Noble Sons game which everyone seemed to like was failed game taking an unexpected turn.
As for bad memories... Getting lynched, and lynching a wrong player.. I think I lynched CR in the final round once and he was innocent :embarassed:
Hopefully by the time I reach 9000 I can be as impressive as CR is

Congrats mate! A milestone to be sure
As for what I've done that I'm proud of... the Victonian election game would have to be up there, as would dedicating 25 hours of my day to reading polling data during the US Election and being granted the honour of starting the Election Day thread, for a country that I don't live in. I was quite proud at the time.

My 5 year anniversary tomorrow and this is all I can think of: I stole Big_John's idea (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?43125-what-are-you-listening-to-right-now..-yes-RIGHT-NOW!!&daysprune=-1) and created the second 'what are you listening to right now.. yes RIGHT NOW!!' (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?64473-what-are-you-listening-to-right-now..-yes-RIGHT-NOW!!-(II)&daysprune=-1) thread. It's probably one of the largest threads in the frontroom now (mostly through my own contributions :embarassed:).
So yeah, nothing.

testosterone mostly.
And of course the Texas meme all ORGahs hold dear
I was also the steward of the frontroom during some pretty lean times, Thank God for PI and a girl joining the fourm, I had started to run out of things to say
I haven't contributed much save for some extreme leftism in the backroom. But someone has to do it. :/

Congratulations CR. I've enjoyed your contributions to the Backroom and thanks especially for Mount & Blade.

Firstly congrats CR, 9000 damn thats a lot.
Well I've been a member with the guild for almost 2 and a half years and although I don;t contribute a lot in other areas, in fact don't even look in most, I like to think I'm helpful as I can be in the Citadel these days.
Plus my Graphics Card just died and can't afford a new one, so I might look around and start contributing a bit more elsewhere on the .org.

There's nothing like a major hardware failure or an illness to increase Org participation.
PJ, please don't conflate opposition to your views with personal dislike. I've never met you; how could I dislike you? I suspect this holds true for most people on the Org.
Eh, that's nothing compared to what I've done, euro.
Is el Panzer an euro??
PJ is euro in ancestry, if nothing else. It's just more of MM's pointless race-baiting. I'd give him another warning point if I thought he'd learn from it.

Good for you CR, that's a lot of quality posts! I'm not sure what my best contribution was; probably adding the first icons/avatars/awards. I think they have added a lot of personality to the site.

Let's see.... my claims to fame.
When I started here I was a big M2TW player. I was a big advocate of blitz style play, both against lone human opponents and also the AI. I was involved in many different debates on the subject. Then I started posting my blitz campaigns, showing images of what I was able to accomplish with the style, especially the abuse of the Crusade mechanic. I also liked to narrate the quest with funny subtitles. I inspired some other people to attempt the blitz style, and that led to a challenge to see who could accomplish the long victory conditions the fastest. We got it down to like 8 turns or something equally ridiculous, with the HRE, if I recall. I was able to tie but not beat the standing record. Then it was conquering 106 provinces in the least number of turns. After mighty duels, I lost the crown to someone else, Grog, who if memory serves me is still the undisputed blitzmaster of M2TW. He beat me by one turn.... 21 turns he had I think. We agreed it probably could be pushed to 20 but I couldn't put the necessary time into it.
Also of interest was a house rules challenge I posted, which Ramses II CP responded to and made an award-winning AAR based on. https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?97845-Tyranny-s-End. Basically the objective is to wipe out all the other factions while allying with none of them, not expanding beyond a certain number of provinces that you control with your military, not spreading or advocating religion, and ultimately, defeating the Mongols and the Aztecs and turning every single province rebel/independent. An anarchist's dream, perhaps... an everlasting war for independence. Very difficult game to play.
Then I was part of some epic fun in the M2TW Broken Crescent hotseat started by phonicsmonkey. I earned an award for the short story I created which described the eventual fate of my Royal family in bloodcurdling detail. I've got plenty of scars from a brawl or two in the backroom.
At some point in 2008, I was introduced to mafia games. I've been part of, and I've hosted, a significant number of games. A selection of mafia Games I've hosted:
The Futurama Drama (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=107859), The Full Monty (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=108584), The Golden Rule (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=110184), Psycho Mafia (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=113845), Murder Manor I (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=113687), Murder Manor II (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=114095), Monty Python and the Holy Grail (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=333982), Treehouse of Horror (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=115442), Resident Evil Omega (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=117441), The Snatcher (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=119908), Psycho Mafia II (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=121447), and The Night Santa Went Crazy (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?124559-The-Night-Santa-Went-Crazy).
Of my mafia games I hosted, The Golden Rule was among the most interesting and creative, I understand people had a lot of fun with that one. A game which was filled with the most zany role-playing of them all was the Psycho Mafia. Games which involve some of the most epic deaths was my Murder Manor I and II games. A game which I am particularly proud of, writing-wise, as the Treehouse of Horror. A few of those deaths were my favorite Simpsons-themed deaths out of the three Simpsons games I hosted. By far the funniest one was The Night Santa Went Crazy.
I also hosted Resident Evil: Dark Falls, which is still in progress. Read the story here-
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=123875
Fun begins on post number 6. I consider this (non-mafia) game to be my greatest contribution to the .org so far.
The mafia games are what pushed me from just that blitz guy into something else. Otherwise I probably would have been gone by now since I don't play M2TW anymore. Now I host and play lots of games. Not sure what the future holds, but I would miss the social interaction terribly if I couldn't come here.

As for contributions, the times I am most proud of at the .org is the period as Modding Moderator with DJ and then later ER after the release of RTW. The .org had a reputation as the home of modding excellence, and the release of new 3D engine was both exciting and pressurising. Trying both to contribute to and support the hard work, research, cooperation, and gather together all this work into a library of info was hard, but very satisfying when it all came together.

Contributions I've made to the Org?
I think I'm special because I don't get banned easily. This is the 3rd time I wasn't banned when I hit the 3-point limit. At the moment, I have 6 active infraction points, but remain un-banned. Lemur's tryin' real hard, though.

What have I contributed? Well, I've had a few goes at modding (best success was the M2TW Mali faction mod that was then used in DLV(sp?) bigger mod), made my Rise of the Capetians IH, posted a lot in the Citadel.
Apart from that... I bring a healthy dose of Reformation era religion to the Backroom and argue endlessly with PVC on whether or not we are choosing to argue with each other or if its all predetermined.
And I also cause a lot of confusion by randomly satirising different viewpoints. I also do this with my own viewpoints sometimes, even interspersing them in the same thread when I'm using serious arguments, just to really confuse everybody. This has had some funny effects, like leading people into researching through obscure loyalist propaganda sites to discover who the 'Culdees' were. :laugh4:

Oh dear I miss the old times. Anti Jamster Crusade, those times.
And on the 1st of May I'm going to have my 5 year anniversary.
That seems like so long ago, you've just reminded me about that thread, can't believe that was 5 years ago. I do miss how active this forum used to be and how people like BKS defined the frontroom as a fun place to be, even if I was too young to appreciate a lot of the threads past the spam ones. I'm not saying the frontroom is bad now, I just miss how active it used to be and how many of the members who have now moved on made it such a fun place. I guess that can be seen as a symptom of the .org as a whole though. I still enjoy the backroom debates though and since I've been active there for the last couple of years I've really enjoyed some quite high end debates, something most forums lack.
As for what I've personally contributed, I can't really say. I guess I've taken more from the .org than I've given back, the backroom has influenced my political belief's quite substantially, as much as a forum can do anyway..

First off, well-done CR. :D
Besides a lot of high-school-Republican posts in the Backroom, I've mostly contributed the Freeware/Open Source thread (linked in my sig ;) ) but that's a scam because I never update it and I make you guys contribute stuff. :P That reminds me, though...
