I am posting this because the thread relating to the online setup is really old and long and deals with a very old version. So I was hoping someone would provide me with info on how to setup multiplayer for EB 1.2 so that I can play other people online. Thanks for the help! I would prefer a quick explanation of installation instructions, programs, etc... rather than a link to another thread.

Install EB 1.2 normally and apply the fixes. Download and install hamachi, and then connect to one of the existing network, like EB1, EB2 etc. If they're full, you can create your own.

When you and your opponent are both logged on to the same network, start EB up using the trivial script (and MP mode, of course). Then go multiplayer, and choose the LAN lobby. There you will meet him, and it's just for one to host and the other to join.

You can also use GameSpy, but I had to make a small config to get EB up and working there, and if you do too I'd rather not go through it. It's not that it's difficult, I'm just lazy. And yeah, yeah, I know I'm writing all of this instead of just trying to explain it, but I'm insane, so there.

Several questions:

1. What do you mean by "apply the fixes?"
2. What version of hamachi?
3. What do you mean by starting EB using trivial script? Is it different from loading it normally?
4. Do I need to find my opponent first or can I just find him there once I logon?

Thanks for your help btw.

1. He means the 1.2 fixes found here: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?109936-1.2-fixes-you-should-try-before-posting
But you probably already have those.
2. I'd say the most recent version you can find.
3. EB with trivial script is normal opening.
I do have a question about this for someone: Is it the SP exe or MP exe?
4. You'll be able to find someone already there, but it might be easier to find someone before going online. That way you know they'll be active and ready.

I just tried playing online and saw some peeps who were on (without downloading hamachi just straight from gamespy) but for some reason it says "not compatible game data." What's up with that? They are using 1.2 like me...

@SlickNicaG69 Let's not be polite here. You want to taste madness (not implying that you have not done so before)? Then please install Hamachi, join one of the networks available. For a not-so-up-to-date list of networks, please refer to VT Marvin's list here (http://europabarbarorum.wikia.com/wiki/Hamachi_Networks). Not all may work, and not all my be administered properly. There you will also read of the madness that is the world of EB multiplayer today. Not to worry though. There's a coalition of men in a far away land working to solve this issue right away.

Ok basically the problem is the following:

When attempting to join it says: Incompatible mod - "My mod: CK:6B68A408:0 - Host mod: CK:AD4C33C:0"

However we have the same exe (Barb invasion) even though I don't have barb invasion installed...

Any solutions?

Did you ever start the game up using the trivial script for MP prior to that? I'm guessing you didn't. In order to go from an SP install and use MP, you have to switch some files around - otherwise you will get the error you just saw: you're using different game data. The trivial script is a way to avoid doing that manually, and thus making sure it's set up the right way.

The trivial script itself is a separate program that came as an optional "extra feature" with the EB installation. If you installed it, you should find that you can open the windows start menu, go to "All programs" -> "Europa Barbarorum"*. There you should find an shortcut called "Play EB MP". That will first start up the trivial script which changes the necessary files, and then starts up EB.

Then it should work.

* It might have a slightly different name as I don't memorize names and can't check it up at the moment, but you should be able to figure it out.

Slick you need to run EB using the RTW 1.5 engine and the multiplayer EDU. I'm sure you know how to do so.

Haha. Do you use the chat lobby? What is your name there? As for the fail to join game, either your ISP blocks the ports, you need to forward the ports, or firewall isn't allowing access for the game.

Well RTW is unblocked (as well as gamespy) and EB is not listed as a program to unblock... I also can join games using vanilla and only receive the message every once in a while...

what ports would they be btw?

O and Hannibal... yes it is I. Did you ever manage to fix your stuff?

Find the ports and apply the same modifications to your router. I chose the WRT54G as it is generic. Visit portforward.come and proceed by selecting your router, then selecting Rome Total War. Instructions seem simple enough.
