Shogun 2?
Hello all, I've finally decided to get down to business and start a MOD after the collapse of my Rome MOD, and I'm sure this MOD will get an even more welcome reaction than the Roman MOD, for indeed it is an unofficial sequel to the game that started it it all, Shogun Total War. Why Shogun 2? Well with Medieval's extra's compared to Shogun we now have the ability to make a larger version of Shogun, more units, more options, more fun. We can begin to ask the question "But will he just give up on this one too?" and I can simply answer "Oreintal warfare is what I find the most interesting, I have a passion for it much greater than that of Roman warfare?". In all honesty, oriental warfare is something that I have great interest in mainly because of the warriors passion in battle and their hatred of cowards, I class these warriors as the true braves of war. However I would also like to look into adding some more regions to the map, most likely these would be part of China and Korea, mainly because I would like to add the sense that the Japanese did more than fight themselves but also fought and traded with China and Korea, but enough of an intro to the project, lets get into the information (I will state if I believe that the information stated may or may not get in the final product.)
Features
-An updated version of the game we all love, Shogun. This version will allow you to do much more than in Shogun.
-More units I wouldn't reagard this as much of a MOD if we just transfered the units from Shogun to this and made no additions.
-Packed full of historical content. I'm going to go much further into the history of oriental warfare than just the Sengoku Period that was depicted in Shogun.
-Larger map I will take the map from Shogun and add to it, more than likely China and Korea will be the extra regions.
-Thorough testing will be made I'm not going to release it with bugs such as the power of the Muskets on the original, you will also be able to buy cannons on this as in the later periods these weapons were used.
What's it to you?
Well I'm officially stating that you may sign up for beta testing now, just tell me in a reply that you want to be as well as asking questions and I'll add you to the list below.
--Testers--
Anyway, I'll release more information when it's available, hopefully Lord Krazy recieved my e-mail a while back.....

Very nice. Too bad you gave up on the Rome mod tho. That is what I am realy after. It can be done with guys like Lord Krazy (The New Units Specialist) it can be done. Good luck on this mod.
One thing though... Shogun is a seasonal turn based game, while Medieval is yearly. I think it makes a HUGE difference(and is another reason why I prefer Shogun's playability over Medieval's perks).

Yeah, the Rome MOD collapsed just like it's namesake.
I'd probably make it turns rather than years so it'd be turn 1, 2 etc....

Well the Rome MOD can be picked up by anyone willing to just to let you know, I'd help but not too much, it was the work that beat me down.

I was just thinking of this the other day http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Hmmmmm if Ithink of ay ideas ill tell you them lol.
Oh yeah I wanna sign up for beta test http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
and questions lets see..
How will you be able to work out there being clans and a shogunate at the same time? Maybe make the Shogun like the pope in that he has influence over all of the clans, and also has his own small military in his capital province that can defend it if any clan tries to kill the Shogun. Also make something that works like a crusade that is some campaign, because then the shogun could make one and when he sends it through other provinces that have alot of zeal then he recruits soldiers from the clans into his army or whatever.

All the animations from shogun work in mtw.
Most of the actionpages have been converted
already.I did that weeks ago, so the only
thing is to draw the map and write
the campaignes ,only http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
This will not need much graphic work
apart from that will it?

This is a fantastic idea .... I would like to learn more about it. Including China is a brilliant idea ... are you going to add in unit types ???
There is a saying in China "In the South we have Shoalin and in the North we have Wudang"
Would be great to to include this aspect as a major feature for China Map.
Shaolin is school of the external styles of combat or Martial arts and is the origin of Zen Buddhism in China via Daimo and indian priest.
Wudang is school of the internal (Chi cultivation and projection) styles of combat or Martial arts and is Taoist.
This type of combat or martial arts was founded via Chang Sanfeng. If you have seen the movie "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" you will know what I speak of.
Both these schools where secret and hidden in the early times. Warriors from Wudang were often hired as assasins via warlords.
so we have:
Shaolin: Buddhist and external stye
Wudang : Taoist and internal styles
can you add this in ???
One thing....Im just not sure how this fits in in regards to time periods.
Mist, just make them two different religons?

Indeed the Shogun will be the Pope and all Japanese factions will be Catholic, so the Pope (Shogun) will warn any clan that disturbs the peace and in turn will excommunicate them from the rest of Japan and encourage other clans to go and basically wipe them out of existance, or of coarse not ally with them, that will also stop Cruscades been launched on other clans that are not disturbing the peace, plus it'll allow you to set up attacks on China and Korea and be rewarded for expanding the Japanese empire by the Shogun in the forum of currency.
Religions will be replaced by countries, so Catholic will be Japan, Orthodox and Muslims will be China and Korea, it depends on who I reckon would want to launch Jihads to re-take land from the invading Japanese, most likely it'll be the Chinese, but those two things you gave me information on most likely will be influencial on some units, I just reckon that making it so they are countires will make it better for the game, then we can have the Pope (Shogun) aspect where those who disturb the peace in Japan are punished and those who expand into other countries are rewarded for expading the Japanese lands, it will also allow you to overthrow the Shogun and place a "puppet" Shogun on the thrown, more than likely I'll make it so you become Shogun by doing so or you just control the current Shogun's desicision etc.
Anyway, wait until later, I'll be posting a large post with lots of info, including descriptions of certain stuff etc.
Thank you for the current feedback, please don't hesitate to post anymore comments.

It'll need alot of graphics work LK, but it'll be relitively easy because most graphics will just be transfered over from Shogun, but some will need to be done, or I may go on a remake of the graphics, but that'll be pretty easy compared to the units and stuff.
Anyways, with the unit's been EXTREMELY easy in this case it give's us more time to concentrate on balancing them and of coarse making up the units, even if they use the same image quite a bit, maybe with a different weapon (No-Dachi's with Wakizachis rather than Katana's, and the Chinese will obviously need some new weapons if you wouldn't mind LK, but we can discuss that together via e-mail).

Sorry but I think that it sounds rediculious.
To make Japan catholic and china Muslims...etc...should make it Buddhist...Taoist....Samari....keep it with the feel, after all the reason why it is Shogun is because warfare is based off "The Art of War" which originally was written in China, and then reinterpretted in Japan to suit the terain and political and socioecomic structure of society for the time in Japan and then called "The book of five rings". It is not based on the Koran or new testement
This Eastern philospy is what made the game .... would be great to enhance this aspect and not remove it.
There is so much scope and possibilities keeping to the Eastern religions theme ..... and much more interesting.

Yes but the religions wouldn't work too well, if say the Uesugi was Budhist (Orthodox) they could be cruscaded upon by the Takeda, which definately sounds weird, and that would render the shogun useless, they he'd only govern those who are of his religion, tell me the exciting possibilities using religion and I'll compare the two and see which benefits the MOD gameplay wise, seen as it is been made for a fun new thing to play on, not a historical heavy masterpeice, but if you have got some idea's on how to implement religions without the above happening feel free to tell me and I'll read it carefully and decide then, that ok?

Hmm i think it should also be religion because then you know how when christianity was becoming more wide spread and in order to wipe it out they sent guys around and would force the people to stomp on christian symbols. those could be like inquisitors. Also since there is the ability to add more independant factions we can now include the lessers clans who only held a few territories. And christianity would come with the events of the potugese coming. Although if the whole clan converted they wouldnt really be following you anyway so that would be confusing. So I guess when the portugese come or whatever maybe you wouldnt have to convert to christianity but now a small part of the population would be?

If I could determine when a event occurs I would include religion, but seen as most event occurr at a set period of time (Mongols invade on the same date, ALL the time) I can't see how religion could be included very well, it would also see some of Japan allying with China or Korea against their fellow Japanese because they have a different religion, and just a few factions been governed by a Pope seems strange because why would they be able to attack one faction, Hojo for example, an get a caution, and attack another and the Shogun doesn't give a care in the world? If you could have the option to accept chritianity and change religion I'd embrace religions, but right now I can't see how they can effectively be placed in, of coarse I'm open to suggestions.
Sakurai, Saionji
11-29-2002, 00:25
Yeah but then a faction could be excommunicated, and if it became christian then the shogun would declare a "crusade" against it or another faction would. And they wouldnt have the same religion as china because china could have the same religion really, but ingame be identified by like "Chinese Buddhist" while japan is "Zen Buddhist" or whatever.

11-29-2002, 17:40
Ah now I get you.
Sakurai, Saionji
11-29-2002, 17:54
And even if the faction leader didnt convert once the other dudes came there would still be a small percentage of the population as christian, and you owould use the buddhist inquisitors to try to stop the spread of chriistianity. (hey had these guys who owuld carry a cross with christian symbols on it and force you to stomp on it) And if enough of the population became christian there might be a revolt. Also have it so that the Shogun if he is killed and has no heir it starts a big war to take the title. But then like rather then having a whole clan become Shogun, whichever general took the shogunate capital they would just be leader of the new shogun province, but would obviously have excellent relations with the clan they are from. But make it so they arent declared shogun just by occupying the capital and getting the title Shogun, but they actually have to hold it for a certain amount of time.

Some other people have already took it upon themselves to continue it.
And this aint' ahrder, infact it's easier, and plus I prefer oriental warfare.

i like how there can be som many different kinds of rebellions, we could make it so there could just be a peasant rebellion, a royal rebellion (in support of the emperor) and an ikko-ikki rebellion lead by warrior monks etc etc etc

This belongs to what you want to do... Adding a new, or the old Shogun map IS HARDER.
NagatsukaShumi
12-02-2002, 20:02
Yah the map'll be hard, you do forget that we won't have to make any new images, just take those from Shogun and modify them slightly.

If are able to make this I have a few requests:
- Add the Clan Hosokawa on Shikoku and Awaji
- Make the Nagashimamonks (Kaga) a playable faction
- Allow to trade with English and Germans which also went to trade in Japan but never became a dominant factor in Trade (but they had the potential to)
- Allow guns
- Call Arqbusiers "Teppo-Ashigaru" and monks "Shoei" so every Unit name is Japanese
- Please make Weaponsfactory need no Ironmines and make them Avarible after building a Castle so they are more useful
- Teppo-Samurai and Teppo-Cavallary Units would be cool (they also existed, no idea why CA left them out)
- Could you make it possible that you can move a kind of "Inquister" or an Emissiary of the Tenno on any Unit and the Leader must do Seppuku (this unit should be limited to Yamashiro)
- Use the Pope-System to make the Tenno and give him as a playable faction... He should also get a kind of super Princess, because the Daimyos thought marrying such a girl makes them DIVUS
