View Full Version : Minimizing at startup

When I try to launch the game, it's all flickery and keeps minimizing to the desktop, then I'll open it back up and it will be further along loading, but will minimize again. I thought this was just the issue with the intro movies and whatnot, but even if I let it get all the way to the main menu, it still minimizes a second or so after I open it. Is this a known issue, and what might the solution be?

Sorry for the double post, I couldn't seem to find an edit option, but just FYI I also tried setting antialiasing to 2x

Hmmm...tricky thing with the newer cards and MTW. One thing that might work is reverting your drivers to Forceware 61.76 from
whatever you have now. If that's not possible, then I really can't pinpoint the exact problem.

IMHO, to avoid many problems, anyone who is serious about running MTW/Shogun correctly should try to get an older computer
and use a software setup that was contemporary with the older TW games (Win 2000 or XP, older drivers). Otherwise, the
old games will only get harder to play unfortunately.

Well, getting an older computer isn't really an option for me. If I try to downgrade my drivers, is there any simple way to upgrade them again when I need to run a more modern game? Like, any way to switch on the fly without having to do a full install each time?

Not that I know of, really. But maybe you could try to find something by googling for "driver swapper" or something like that.
It's worth a shot.

BTW, awesome name you have there

It only occurs if you have other software open at the same time. Do you have your web browser also open in the background minimised? If so close it. Or if you have anything else open in the background, close them and then alt-tab back to your game. The issue should no longer occur. It happens to me all the time. I just have to remember to open MTW/whatever other old game and only the game to prevent it from happening.

To add to Rythmic's comments; also create the empty text file "skipcredits.txt" in the MTW working directory (same directory as Medieval_TW.exe). It may be an issue with the starting movies causing this.

Ah, well, I'm working on a research paper and have about 12 browser windows open with various journal articles up, so I probably won't be able to test this immediately, but hopefully having stuff open is my issue because that seems like an easy fix.

Also, I have my doubts it's the opening movie, just because I let it progress all the way to the main menu and it still had the issue. That said, I'll give that a shot if simply closing everything doesn't solve the problem.

Also also, Torment is amazing, yes.

Also also also, I tried closing everything else and it worked. Thanks for the help!
