So yesterday my power supply in my desktop died, after ~3.5 years of faithful service. (Borrowed a friends PSU and I think everything else is intact.) In fact, here's the thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?67712-1500-Make-a-PC) where I started making my first computer. I didn't post my power supply choice (or any of my final choices, though I went with most of the things in post 18 of that thread) but I got an OCZ GXS600 600W PSU. I think it was a little pricey at the time but it lasted this long. Apparently it's past warranty (which expires at 3 years according to OCZ) but I've posted a support ticket with OCZ and posted on their forums. I'm thinking about replacing it with this 650W number from Corsair which is the best rated on Newegg:

Anyone have any experiences or other comments on a PSU selection?

With the PSU dead, I think the case and the two optical drives (as well as the keyboard, mouse, and monitor) are the last surviving bits from my "first draft." Ah, nostalgia.

Nothing wrong with that PSU. Just the wattage good be higher. More juice, usually means better PC performance. I'd stick with a minimum of 800W for today's PCs, depending on your specs of course.

I was actually thinking that before I took my dead PSU out and saw that I had been getting by fine on 600. Another 50W should keep me in business for a while because I don't have any upgrades planned.

I used the exact same PSU for my last build. It's been running for a few months now with no problems. It looks to be a very well-made power supply.

As for the OCZ one, I think 3.5yrs is kinda lousy for a supposedly good name aftermarket PSU. :sweatdrop:
Honestly, before getting the Corsair, I had always just bought a standard Antec PSU for my builds. I never had one go bad and I'm still using some of them 6+yrs later....

Oh... I'm not really familiar with powersupply lifespans...

So my Antec case and PSU should be awesome then. :beam:
