I've been watching arthouse movies on YouTube. This one below explores the rites of passage of adolescents into adulthood on other continents. I'm watching it out of anthropological interest, very exotic. It's all very interesting, if intellectualy exhausting.

In the clip below, between 0:00 and 0:01, the female makes a non-grammatical utterance which I don't understand. I believe there is meaning attached to it. But which? What is she saying, and what does it mean?

It sounds like she mixed "yeah" and "uh-huh".

It means "I find Frenchmen terrible attractive".

It's a response to the negative phrase "uh-huh". Think Ya Rly! to O Rly?

Is she confirming something? Or denying something? ~

'No it isn't!'
or:
'It is too!'

Or was the male study object not the last person to speak before her mysterious utterance? Is it a follow-up to something the female said herself? Is she re-affirming an earlier statement? Is she merely drawing attention, trying to get the male to rejoin the conversation?

Oh, the mysterie!

It means "I find Frenchmen terrible attractive". Hmmm...I'm not so sure. I've heard this exact same sentence in all kinds of English variants, but none resembled this one. Most utilised the Germanic capacity for brevity in full, by communicating this entire sentence with a series of single grunts, such as ''oh' followed by 'ah'.

Always saw it as an enthusiastic yes: "Yeah, definitely!" It's either affirming something someone else has said, as her tone seems to suggest there.
Or, as you suggested "It is too!", affirming something someone else has denied.

It's clearly Norwegian; she says "jaha", which means something like "ok..." "really...", basically it is affirmative. ~;)

(seriously though, it sounds exactly the way I'd pronounce it, minus the feminine voice ~D)

Yah-huh? Sort of like a disapproving "What!?", look at her facial expression. :smug:
