View Full Version : RTw odd bugs:HELP!
I'm having a few somewhat "odd" bugs which are annoying and I hope you can help since they are ruining the game for me,using the BI expansion + the latest patch. Basically sometimes in a siege where I'm deploying my army to meet the enemy in the field, the gate/s refuse to open for a unspecified time. They do open eventually, but it's frustrating as hell having my entire army stuck in my city while my opponeny slowly advance towards my gate, since I'm using a Armenian Ha army.
Also having problems with crashing to Windows after epic battles which also sucks because If I fight an egyptian army with their top-tier bowmen,6 heavy chariots and other nasty things ,and manage to pull out a win, well I don't really want to fight it all over again..
Are you playing HUGE unit sizes or the default ones? If you're playing on HUGE and it ctds then you may be asking too much of your puter's ram to handle. It seems like the gates thing may just be a game bug since that happens to me at times and it's annoying.

I'm using default for now, just got the game and I'd thought I'd learn the game before trying HUGE unit sizes, although I just bought my computer new this year,so I can't imagine this game straining it's resources too much.
Hmmm, it shouldn't be a ram problem then. I'm sorry I don't have another answer unless it's a case of the game not wanting to play nice with Windows Vista/7 but I haven't heard anything like what you describe that wasn't resource related. if you don't get the help you need here, there is a more active RTW forum at heavengames.com They're nice over there too. Hello oz_, welcome aboard.
I can't speak to the closed gates issue. But I can recommend something about being thrown out after epic battles. This happens to me occasionally. And it's usually (but not always) when I've been playing for an extended period of time. If you've been sitting at your PC for 3+ hours, try saving off your game to a named file, exiting RTW to desktop, then restarting and reloading your game. This gives your computer a chance to reset and refresh core address spaces. Games like RTW or Civ IV are very sophisticated and use a lot of memory, especially over time. Your computer doesn't automatically release memory that it's no longer using. It just keeps accumulating the more you play. Eventually, you have some addressability problems. Exiting the game and reloading should help.
Also, get in the habit of quicksaving your game, I believe the instruction is Cntl/S on your keyboard. That way, if you do get thrown out, all you have to replay is the battle and not two or more whole turns. That can be irritating. Happens to me occasionally. I forget I've been playing for a long time and get thrown out after I've done tons of work, etc. Then I have to play the turn over, maybe refight 3-6 battles to recover. That's no fun. Save-exit-reload if you've been playing for 3 or more hours. Hope this was helpful.
