Rome-The path to the Dark Ages-The Collapse

In 476 AD Odoacer the Scirian deposed Romulus Augustus and resolves to rule independantly, but nominally as viceroy of the Roman Augustus of Constantinople, this called for the end of the Western Empire and plunging of Europe into the period known as the Dark Ages....

Rome-The path to the Dark Ages is back and better than ever. A while ago I announced that the project was indefinately cancelled, but for the past month or so work on the project has been going on in secret and shrouded from the public, mainly so that we get something done this time before announcing it, I have finally decided that now is the time to reveal that Rome-The path to the Dark Ages-The Collapse is back in production and it's going to be even better than I ever envisioned. The Collapse depicts the era in time where Rome was on it's final breath and barbarians were certainly not against invading Roman territory nor were they against the idea of the destruction of Rome or Constantinople. The Collapse will hope to represent the brutality of this period and give you the chance to either take over one of the halves of the Roman Empire and return it to it's former glory or take over the control of a barbaric people and crush the Romans and make your own empire.

The Team

NagatsukaShumi-I will be editting practically everything, however I will not be doing any of the files to do with the units like balancing them or animating them, however I will join in the online testing and give my views on what should be changed.

Lord Krazy-This is THE MAN He will be creating all animations for the MOD and will be balancing the units using the relevent files.

Lord Black Adder-He is, as far as I am aware, helping Lord Krazy with the animations, prop's to this man too.

Stephen the Beserker-He will be giving me input into the historical aspects of the period and what he thinks will and will not benefit the MOD.

Clan Seljuk-My fellow Seljuk comrades will be helping provide voice overs for this MOD.

Confirmed Factions

-The Western Empire-:-One half of the Roman Empire, this one resides in the birthplace of the empire and controls the great city of Rome, though out of the two this empire looks most likely to fall to barbarian incursions, if only because of the fact it hasn't got the walls of Constantinople to hide behind.

-The Eastern Empire-:-The other half of the Roman Empire, this half resides on the grounds of ancient Greece and behind the solid walls of Constantinople and is only safe from destruction because the barbarians do not possess the weaponary to knock their way through the solid concrete walls.

-The Huns-:-These people arrived from the East and worked there way into Europe by migration before settling in the area of modern day Germany. The Huns are master horesmen and are a huge threat to both empires, though their petty fights with other tribes of their own people and of other tribes near them only put them at a disadvantage.

-The Visigoths-:-These people inhabit parts of Gaul, modern day France, and Spain and are another major barbaric tribes. Although the Visigoths haven't got a certain outstanding way of war like the Huns and their horsemen, but their warriors have nerves of steel and are not people who will run from battle easily, but again like the Huns their squabbling with surrounding tribes only weakens their chances of crushing the Romans.

FAQ

1-Will this be stopped like last time?

Nope, the project will not be stopped, I will force myself to continue on and on with this until it is done and updated to death.

2-What kind of updates will there be?

Well, if Lord Krazy agree's to this you can expect more units to be released after the release to add more life to the game. Patches that will solve problems will be released to you all, things like spelling mistakes etc. will be wiped out by those. Historical battles and campaigns will be released for it and so on.

3-What about Multiplayer?

I will promote online play as much as I can, I'd love to see this MOD spice up the online gaming aspect of MTW and I would be extremely proud of myself if I saw you all talking about my MOD after it's released as you play your way through it, and I would love to see you all playing it online and I'd gladly join in with you all online as well as host competitions etc.

4-Release date?

Haven't got a clue about that, because of coarse even when the MOD is done, balancing and beta testing will be happening.

5-Website?

I am currently making a website for the project, there will be one, again no release date yet.

Anyway, Rome-The path to the Dark Ages is back and this time it's back for good. Please discuss everything you wish in this post, updates to things like confirmed factions etc. will be added to this post as well as new information and new additions to the FAQ and so on.

Good, very, very good... extremely very good. I won't start yamming about the few factions and such stuff, but since you might need some help into the historical aspects of it, I might be able to give you data on the eastern roman empire.

Other than that... carry on the good work http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif

Yeah, those are just the confirmed factions though, there will be more added after I sift through all the stuff that's on my PC when we started doing it last time.

NagatsukaShumi,

I'd love to help out on this one. Unfortunately I can't really offer any practical "hands on" assistance until well into the new year (too many other things to do/finish).

Still, I can see this being a longish job so if you require help in any aspect of the New Units (or with other issues) later on in the project I'll gladly oblige - time permitting.

Nice to see this one continuing.

Will do. I suspect I'll have more time February/March. At present a couple of things spring to mind -

- I can probably help LK/LBA with object repositioning for new units for this mod
- LK and I were discussing including slingers into the game a few weeks ago (we know how to do this - and I've written it up in PART 16 of the "Animations Guide" which will be posted ASAP)

It would be nice to know how LK/LBA are planning to do the new units. There is a LOT of potential for incoporating images from other games into the MTW engine - you just have to find the right games, know how to extract such images and know how to build new 12 frame BIF's for use by MTW. This would save a hell of a lot of time in some respects.

Also, I started writing some stuff (for a new thread) that was a kind of "checklist/ideas/food for thought" for doing a completely new mod with new units ect: - I did'nt bother posting it, but if you want I'll finish it off and will post it as a new thread. May help slightly in some respects - it may even be of some use as the start of a mini-document for doing a mod of this complexity. Let me know.
