I started the seleucids campaign last month with BI and from the first few turns i noticed a huge difference. Rebels were aggressive attaking my many cities and AI seems better movement wise. Anyway i thought id keep you posted because its all kicking off now, i actually cant belive what is hapening.
I rerally want to do an AAR or just a general story because whats hapening is so entertaining and its rather like im playing out the exact historical role of the seleucids.
OK ..... things started slow i abandoned a few outer cities bordering parthia just to give us a bit of distance. It didnt take long before they came harassing my borders with small forces, medium garrisons in susa control the outer cities and they seem to be holding. Iv tried to give the AI a bit of time but they are so aggressive iv had to intervine, in lydia and greece.
My main allie macedonia has suffered and is taking blows from the epeirotes in the north who have taken Pella and are expanding accross mainland europe and the greeks in the south who now only have Athens and corinth thanks to my assistance taking rhodes, however the greeks are still dangerous they have 2 huge armies and are far from scared to use them.
I took a full stack to greece to assist macedonia in its war against the greeks because once the greeks and epeirotes have taken greece they will invade lydia next which macedonia has perganom and the other city next to it..... along with my empire which surely they would attack next ... So this kind of reminds me of when the seleucids intervined in greece around 190 bc the main battle ofcourse being the Battle of Magnesia.
Everything seemed ok, i landed and took a poorley defended sparta, the greeks sat at corinth with 2 full stacks harassing the small armies of macedonia. My army prepared for the advancement into greece to put macedonia back into power, The only problem was i spotted a roman ship in the distance with a full stack. (I would like to see the romans do some serious damage this campaign because they always seem to get dominated by the lustanas.)
Any way i was confused and excited because iv never seen the romans or any other faction for that matter travel from italy to greece. Before they landed in greece a small macedonian army had fled near sparta requesting my assiatance. The only problem was it was against a huge greek stack with its faction leader at the head. I never turn down a challenge and as hard as it was going to be id give it my all. Its either make or break!
The worst part about this battle was it was right inbetween a forest, with a small patch of nice ground in the middle in which the macs had sat, with skirmish cav and classical hoplites, who in all honesty were going to be no assistance what so ever. I rushed my army to the center but could not make it in time, i had 6 native phalanaxes 2 native spearmen 4 heavy skirmishes 3 hellenic archers and 3 skirmish cavalry units along with a pretty inexperienced general. I just about got my phalanaxes deployed in a nice position on flat ground to no onse advantage in the trees surrounding the clearground so i couldnt even see who was were and by the time the greeks engaged me with all haste my rear units were still organising them selves. I know id made a big mistake running to meet a superior army. My phalanxes were out numbered 3-1 my native spearmen had to protect the flanks which were already overrun and my skirmishes were in chaos trying to assist were ever possible.
The worst part about the greek army was that it had lots of cavalry, At the start i threw my 2 greek skirmish cav which were half depleated from previous battles and an elite tanantine skirmish cavalry unit to my western flank to engage and hopefully come to some kind of rescue. They engaged a thesselian heavy cavalry unit and were absolutely abblitirated to my astonishment they had hardley done anything. (The greek factionleader must have had some serious battle bonuses), My hands were so full i couldnt even get to him to kill him and give my men some kind of hope. Within a matter of minutes the greek cavalry overrun my archers and skirmishes and it was over :(, i was hapy to have had my arse whuped because lets be honest how often is it really that hard?, i may have found a serious challenge here :).
So i am now camped in sparta with a virtualley useless army, with a roman full stack just landing to my east. Iv had no problems with the romans but as i said earlier its like they have come to stop my intervention in greece and push me back into lydia. Or maybe its some kind of coincidence?
It seemed so until i noticed another roman ship with 2 generals and a fat full stack army following the first ship!!!!! They have no alliances thus far in the game and have only declared war on carthage. Whatever happends in the next few turns is going to decide the fate of My faction in greece, Macedonia, Koinon Hellon, The Epeirotes and Pontus, This could be the best campaign iv played so far :P
Sorry for going on :P
P.s please tell me if its worth making a AAR or some kind of biography of the campaign
