I have a Gypsy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maruti_Gypsy). I had a nice music system installed in it. Then around a year back, someone broke the lock of the dashboard (inside which the actual music player was installed) and stole it. I did not bother replacing it, since it's an open vehicle and another theft was always a possibility...and those things are costly. Then a few days back I had an idea. You see I still have the four speakers installed in my car, and I have a decent music player (mp3 player). So I thought, what if I could get the input lines to those four speakers and have an audio jack connected at the end. Then I could plug the jack into my music player and the setup ought to work, yes? But it didn't. The electrician who found the wires and connected the jack could not help. And I never scored well in my engineering....so I need help. What am I doing wrong? Why is it not working?

Hey, I remember you! I also remember that pic you uploaded with the beautiful sky in the background, looked like it was about to rain.

Were you AWOL for a while or somethin?

I don't think a MP3 player can supply the oomph to power the speakers, you need an amp of some kind. You will need to know the impedance values of the speakers, and start from there.
