The Flemish army concentrated around the town of Courtrai to besiege the royal castle. Courtrai was the gateway to Flanders for France, so it was of the utmost importance to fully control this town. This was understood by the French, so they marched to Courtrai
Play as either France or Flanders.....
Two version to down load, as well as a new map and flags for Flanders
Unzip these files into a new dirctory you create at
Battles/batinit/historic battles...
Then launch MTW and they should appear in the historic battles screen have fun...

The BDF file is called flanders.......
you need to ensure that the directory is also called the same name... ie flanders...
This should fix any problems ?
Let me know if it now works.....
Hm no it didnt help http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

hi shade i dloaded your battles earlier and noticed the slight faults and i hace sorted em for you and put the 2 files into a zip with some instructions;) get in touch and u can have the zip . and i really enjoyed the battles well made maps and nice feel to them http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif)
Ahh now it works...
Interesting battle as Flanders but not that hard as the French. You can let the other two French factions soak up the fatigue of the Flemish, though I did not do this I outgunned the Flemish heavily and managed to get a beating in on the Foot Knights (they pose the greatest threat).

I did it from both points of view.
As France you should always win. You have better cav, soldiers etc.....
The real gaming parts comes if you play as Flanders. Then it is a little more challenging http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I will have a look, I hope there is an english conversion.
Im currently reading Harlequin by Bernard Cornwell, set during the 100 years war. Well worth a read, its an excellent historic novel, full of facts etc....
The book finishes with the battle of crecy.

Word of notice there Vlad, "de Leeuw van Vlaanderen" is a novel based on historic facts. It isn't really historically accurate. For example Jan Breydel probably never played such an important role in the battle, nor did the son of the count which was in a French prison at the time. It's a good book, but it was written to encourage flemish nationalism and as such is biased and historically not correct.
The book is a classic though.

Can't get it to work Wolf. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif Did everything like in the .txt file: made folder, renamed it, put the map and setup for the map in the maps folder. There's a question mark where under the picture of the map (which isn't there either). I don't even see the units you can use.

Count
Is the game listed as a historic battle?
Secondly, and most important-----
Make sure the directory name is identical, spelling, capitals and spaces to the BDF file

Ive updated the map, added some waters features and put a motte around the town.
This makes the map more historically accurate.

well ShadeFlanders is exactlu what i assumed when i named it an historical novel; is a novel not a history book but is an historicaly novel so facts are important ; anyway looks to me as an classic .i wish u to read the romanian novel "The Eagle" but unfortunate is almost untradutcible in other language;is a great historical book http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/redface.gif
