Hello I'm new here.

As many have done before, I too have recently gotten the STW/MTW/RTW gold edition and played the good old Total War games again.
I have a problem with MTW battles, I tried to look it up in previous threads, but couldn't find it. I guess it's quite common:
My mouse doesn't work. Units are visible through scenery. It is, actually, impossible to have a presonally fought battle. Any help?

Another question more related to the game itself:
How do I make dismounted units in campaign mode?

Thanks a lot!

Welcome to the Org! ~

The mouse issue sounds like a common problem with newer nVidia graphics cards. What are your system specs (OS, video card)?

You can't build dismounted units, you must build the mounted unit in the campaign, and then dismount them before battle.

And you dismount them by right clicking on them (before the battle) and choosing the option dismount, that you will be given. Some such units can dismount in siege battles only, while others can dismount in all battles.

Welcome to the org, by the way, enjoy your stay

You're welcome VersusAllOdds.

One of the must dismount units is the dismounted chivalric knights. It is a unit that is heavily armoured and has phenomenal armor piercing attack, very good defence and sky high morale. It is best suited for guarding other units from heavy cavalry charges, for assaults/defence on bridges and for castle assault/defence. Its only deficits are the small number of men, and the slow speed/stamina - hence they are best in closed spaces and/or static defensive roles - say protecting your crossbowmen from enemy cavarly charges, while they rain death on the enemy.

The crusader knights that you get by crusading (Templars, Teutons, Santiago) also dismount to that unit iirc - however the Hospitalers dismount to Hospitaler Dismounted Knights - a very cool looking unit that is not too shabby on the battlefield either...

Enjoy ;)

as it has a considerable wealth of information about tactics and proper use/role of all units in MTW (and STW/MI), including what dismounts to what.

Druzhina cavalry can dismount anytime and become Feudal Foot Knights. These seem to show up as mercenary units early in the game.

Unfortunately you won't be able to play battles correctly with that graphics card due to a known bug. The 7xxx/8xxx/9xxx series Nvidia cards are all affected. The solution for 7xxx series and a possible solution for 88xx series is to use earlier drivers.
