I've been playing a KH campaign in which I went east, chasing Makedon into the land mass between the Mediterranean and the smaller sea to it's northeast. The Arche Seleukids were nowhere to be seen and instead there was a powerful Ptolemaic presence. Naturally, once Makedon started losing it's last cities to me, all hell broke loose because the Egyptians all spontaneously caught rabies and attached me.

In the lands where Makedon uses to be, I had Pella and the two provinces just north of it, the ones that allow me to recruit Thracians and Celts respectively. To the north of that are the Getai, with full stacks constantly being formed and running of north to do Gods-know-what to their fellow pagans. With the massive, resource-draining war against the Ptolemaics, the very last thing I needed was war with the Getai and, for that reason, I had full stacks in all border cities with them.

And then some random city on the northern shore of the sea suddenly joins me, causing war with the Getai. I cancel several constructions and send a diplomat to give them 10k mnai and the province in order to get them to cease fire again. Yay, they listen to sense.

Two seasons later, the same place does it again! This time, it costs me 20k before the Getai will take it back with my humblest apologies.

The next season, they do it for the third time. This time, though, they also spawn with a stack of almighty doom. Gold weapons and armour, with most of the full stack having 2 gold chevrons. The javelin guys with no armour and a brimmed hat in this group are, by the numbers, more deadly than my classical greek hoplites...

So I throw in the towel and go 'OKAY! Fine, you can join me! Sheesh'.

you should invade the Getai right away with your allmighty akontistai :2thumbsup:

it was the faction_creator thingies, and region deefault owner... which was KH, so don't be surprised if they are so determined in joining the alliances

The akontistai were just noticeable because they were the lowest unit in the stack and still would give my best units a run for their money right now. There were a ton of the scythian riders and archers, along with some slingers and the like. All in all, intimidating!

Once I ship some normal fare to the colony, this stack will be running around causing mad mayhem. I do wonder, though, whether retraining will eventually strip their weapons and armour?

yes, it will strip their armour, but not their experience.... :beam:

You are lucky with rebellions. I send spies into the Romani cities, but every time order drops below 75% it mysteriously rises to reasonable level, even if it was 10%. They are a true pain in the backside to conquer, like in real life...

I'm still not sure whether the fortune was good or bad. I did get a fantastic stack out of it, but I'm out 25k and now facing a second front when I am already struggling to hold back the Ptolemaics.

The Getai are the only faction I've managed to share a border with peacefully for several years, and that's mostly because I packed the border cities to the gills with good soldiers. Every few seasons a Getai stack would wonder down, take a squizz at my fortresses and decide to go back home for lunch.

I have managed to push the Ptolemaics back to a point where I can hold them, though. The bend in the coastline with the large island to the south, with the island mine and able to land reinforcements. I may park an army there and go back, cleaning out the Pontus on the way.
