Is it just me or is the cost for purchasing something like 4 gigs of ram going through the roof.

I just checked NewEgg for 4 gig's of RAM and its almost 3 times what I paid for it a year ago. I bought my OCZ for 29.99 and now the exact same pair is 110$

Whats going on here?!

You know what... Its newegg's site that is messed up... If you click on memory from the main page, it redirects you to laptop memory. So now this thread is entirely moot... :/

Looking at prices over here, it seems like the cheap&nasty stuff is getting more expensive, whereas the quality high end stuff is staying around the same price.

 Thats just here.

Or maybe its not... I don't know, Newegg is driving me insane today. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010170147%201052420643%201052315794&name=4GB%20(2%20x%202GB))

Your first post lists a 2x 2GB SO-DIMM modules. That works out as $55,- per module; which is pretty good value.
Your second post lists the more expensive stuff: and it is DDR 2.

My impression is that for the most part manufactures simply want to sell you DDR 3, and that now DDR 2 is like tape: a bit of a niche market.

Maybe I missed something, but last month I don't remember it being that expensive. It just seems kinda high.
