Ok which is better?

Now personaly I know Granpappy fought two wars to protec tthe hot dog but imo nothing beats a flour tortilla, hot mustard, suarkruat, and a beer brat.

Sorry granpa :shame:

Hotdogs are great. There can never be enough hotdogs in the world.

However, Germans are to sausages what Ron Jeremy is to, erm, sausages.

Hot dog, since I have no idea what bratwurst is.

Hot dogs are good, but brats are great. (Ixnay on the sauerkraut, though!)

Hotdogs are just small frankfurters.

Hot-dog, comes with bread sauce some salade and usually fried onions and some sours, at nice places. Gas stations come with bratwurst.

No. A hot-dog is a sausage on/in a piece of bread.

I thought hot dogs tend to be more crappy, your earlier post made them sound like they were fancy stuff. Maybe it's different in the United Provinces, but here hot dogs tend to be sold by bog-standard street vendors or to microwave at home or something.

Brats, all the way. Hotdog quality and contents vary too much.

I just realised, Hot-dogs in the UK are the same as Weiners in America.

I don't know what normal sausages are called over in America though.

One word: currywurst. I'll leave it to the Germans from here but they sure as hell have to answer for at least that.

Sausages.

If it's for breakfeast its a sausage

If its for lunch or dinner its a brat or a Kielbasa depending on how and who prepared it.

I've never seen it as just a suasge outside of breakfeast

I have seen it as Brat suasuge and Kielbasa suasge but never just as suasage (cept breakfeast)

It's what's for lunch today. I get out of work early today for a doctor appointment. I'm ravenous and must eat something before I pass out. The cupboard's almost bare, wife must shop tonight. There are a couple of frozen Sahlen's (http://www.sahlen.com/welcome.html) hotdogs in the freezer the boy must have missed, and a package of Tobee's (http://tobeeskraut.com/) sauerkraut, two cans of beer. Boil the dogs in one can of beer for 15 minutes, slap'em between two slices of bread and top with the kraut. Crack open the other beer and lunch is served.

I love them both. Thank God for the huge Polish community in the Western New York area. Chicago & Milwaukee got nothing on us when it comes to quality brats & hotdogs. Trying to pick between the two is like trying to decide between the blonde & the brunette....

Depends on the brat, depends on the dog. I've bitten into some seriously sub-standard brats in my day. On average, sure, a brat will be superior to a dog. But a really good dog holds its own.

Kielbasa is the best. Followed by Italian sausage.

Kosher hot dogs are the good kind of hot dogs. But they are vastly improved by frying them in butter and skipping the bun (hot dog buns are an abomination).

Dude, me I'm not going to handle my sausage with my hands, I want to see it between two firm buns.

Just put it on a plate and stick a fork in it. Knives optional, but a cheese grater comes in handy.

Just put it on a plate and stick a fork in it. Knives optional, but a cheese grater comes in handy.Where's the fun in using forks to handle it? I love playing with lots of sauce*, to get it all real messy and slippery between the buns and see if I can keep that sausage from sliding out.

*no ketchup. Unless I'm really hungry and it's take it or leave it.

Ketchup and mustard is where I get confused. Some people say it's against the rules to put ketchup on a dog. I can't remember if that's a New York or a Chicago thing. And then there's the hard-core burger people, who swear that ketchup has no place on a patty.

Why all the ketchup hate?

I put ketchup, mustard, sweet relish & chopped onion on mine; burgers included. Ketchup is one of the major food groups in my family. Ketchup haters = elitist grey poupon snobs.

I think you're missing something here. The ketchup haters I've known have all been hardcore dog/burger eaters, blue-collar dudes with strong opinions. The anti-ketchup thing is not a class thing, it's something else.

Any good restaurant will make sure they always have a bottle of ketchup handy in case of American guests. :2thumbsup:

That ketchup looks different to the bright red sweet gunk they serve up over here though. Looks to have the consistency of sun dried tomato paste.

That's a Texas Hot sauce, a kind of salsa with finely ground beef added.

Another Texas Tall Tale, son. Jalapeno Ketchup... (http://www.spiceitup.com/)

I voted for brats, I prefer them boiled. Italian hot sausages from the deli are the best though. There is this one guy that makes a hot sausage so hot that it will make you sweat (or cry) which ever comes first. Definately top with hot peppers in oil. Ketchup, relish and mustard are for the lowly hot dog. Which are fine but I prefer something with more flavor and character.

It's the ketchup we get here. Your ketchup uses corn syrup obviously, so is thicker and less over-poweringly sweet than ours. I hate the ketchup we get here, it's like red sugar paste.
