View Full Version : Huge unit size and build time

I posted this in the Junior Patrons/Entrance Hall but now that I have access to this section I thought I should post here as well since many of the modders might not visit the Entrance Hall too often.

Anyway, back to my problem.
When I play Medieval I want really massive armies so I always play with the huge unit size. Unfortunately this doubles the building time compared to when you play with the default unit size, making it take twice as long before you have your army ready.
Since I want to make the most of my stay in the dark ages before the dawning of gunpowder (I've always shunned cannons and the like in medieval warfare. dunno why.. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif) I want to reduce the building time to the same as for default-sized units.

If there is a mod like this available, please point me to it, otherwise I could sure use some advice on how to make it myself.

BTW, I tried the mod called 'Huge unit quickbuild mod for MTW v1.1' but it crashed the game everytime I loaded a custom battle.. If it had worked it would have been exactly what I wanted.

One way to get around that is to go into the crusader unit file and double the unit sizes there. They will then be built in the same number of turns. You can adjust the price to double if you wish to be consistent.
There is one problem you could encounter doing that. GilJay earlier posted that there is a built-in maximum to the number of troops in a battle(army?) and the game will crash when that number is exceeded. If I recall correctly, it was a pixel related issue. I don't remember what it is, so you will have to ferret it out.

Thanks man. I didn't know there was a built-in maximum and that that was why the game crashed.
I set the unit size back to default and now the 'Huge unit quickbuild mod for MTW v1.1' works as it should.
