View Full Version : THE GREAT EB RACE!
Gentlemen!
I propose a race that will test the nerve and skills of every Baktrian, Saka, Casse and Lusotannan player there is!
I will offer the princely sum of 5 balloons to the first player who can make it from one side of the map to the other, with a string of colonies connecting their empire. What I am not looking for is people who can just blitz the AI (we have all seen the campaign map fully conquered before) or players who mod the map to give them an early advantage.
Casse players: You must endevour to reach Sai Yavuga.
Saka players: If you think you are up to the challenge you must reach Cassemorg (bonus points if you can reach Erain)
Baktrians: Think your man enough to land in Lusitania?
Lusitanians: Sind is your final target.
I understand it is difficult to moderate such a race and that people are likely to simply submit screenshots of previous empires but in the name of sport could I ask people to play fair. I suggest M/M difficulty setting to level the playing field.
Gentleman! Start your cavalry!
P.S. Apologies if there are female EB players who have been offended by the reccurring use of "gentlemen".

That would require people to have time. I do not.
Can I place bets though?

Mod the map for an advantage? Well... I only need 1 Diplomat and Force Diplomacy mod ;-)

Yes I know this plan has a lot of rough edges to it but I think it could be fun. I guess you would just have to rely on good sportsmanship.

I never considered the idea of placing bets. But i see no problem with it.

I place an Ale nr 16 on Fluvius then. Proven Blitzer.

Of course.
Is there an undertone of insider trading of crucial information or is this a fair game? My Iberian skirmishers want to land in Sind...
Ok I will allow 20 places in this, enough to allow participation of a fair number of players but not so many I lose track of who is playing. How does that sound? Ideally five players from each of the factions competing.

or should we keep in the rule : NO FORCE DIPLOMACY, and NO PROTECTORATE OFFER?
*. because the first could means you'll got easy time dealing with those "on-off" wars (so you will be forced to smack them down), and the second means that you won't got the AI bonus money when you made them your protectorate. Also, no cheating at all, except toggle_fow

Edit: i would compete but i have my hands full with my seleucid campaign

You should have Saba going for Sweboz lands as an allowable campaign too. That'd be an interesting one.

Agreed. Saba must make it to Skandza but competitor still stands at 20 players. Between now and the end of the month I will take bookings for people who want to compete. I am just gonna trust people don't use force diplomacy or any other mods to cheat, to quote my old high school teachers "They would just be cheating themselves".
If you would like to take part please let me know as well as the country you are in so I can account for weekends or time when you are likely to be free, it wouldn't be fair to American and British players to start it on a monday just as it wouldn't be fair to French players to start on a Friday. Only four competitors per faction; Casse, Saba, Saka, Lusitania, Baktria. If there is a lack of interest I will scale down the number of competitors taking part, if there is no interest then this thread will have failed.

No Sweboz? No fun.
I think exam-time is possibly not optimal for this sort of thing.
Fluvius, I have bet a beer on you, now get to work.
Ok I will think about the Sweboz, its only fair if the Saba have to make it that far North. I see your point about exam time and I will give that some consideration too. I take it you would want to be part of this if it were not for your exams Macilrille?

Not really, I never Blitz, but I have considered taking the map as Sweboz just for fun. But it would not be Blitzing. I am not even good at it. I want to lure Fluvius to try Sweboz cause I like him and I think he will enjoy it, and I want to see hos fast he can Blitz the map with them as he is good at that sort of thing.
There was someone stationed in Angola half a year ago who had done it even faster than Fluvius. That must be beaten.
:clown: Can I bet, that Macilrille loses his bet?

My best bet is some Saka player will win, since (1) they're the easiest faction to deploy all cavalry armies, (2) they can quite easily retrain their units at the other side of the map, (3) they perform well in all kinds of climates (I don't want to control Cidainh or iberian skirmishers against let's say an hellenic or a nomad faction), (4) it's quite easy to start attacking from the very start of the game. Sadly, I don't have the time to endeavour in such an undertaking.
A pretty important question:
If the Saka need to reach Cassemorg (which is across some waters), will one have to learn them how to swim? I don't think the Saka can build ships...
Aha! You have noticed the great problem for the Saka players, yes they will have to rely on some very large bribes and a lot of spies if they are to make it across the drink.
I am going to guess that there is general lack of interest in this idea then? If so Ludens can you close this thread if nobody responds in the next few days, please.
I would take part (time isn't an issue now; I'm done with high school!) if I had the slightest clue how to blitz in EB.
I don't.

Are most people coming into exam period now too? Maybe that explains the interest, or lack there of. I would give this ago in a month-ish time, atm unfortunately it's all exam study and final assignment submissions time.

I'd love to do it, especially with the Saba, but I don't have the kind of constant internet access at this time that would be needed to really "compete" with others online.

I just got out of an exam period.
so is a date set for the event?
How does the start of July sound, I know its a good way off but it would give peple plenty of time to get exams out of the way.

That is indeed the question:hide: I have a very fun Seleukid campaign going on right now, probably I have overdosed myself with EB when I finish that campaign. So maybe I won't get myself to take up another campaign. Although if I join, it will be an auto-win (and beer for Macilrille), but the chance that I finish in time with AS and actually take up another campaign when this starts is not so big. However pikeman's remark makes it tempting.~D

It is always good to know I am liked and people wish me the best, although I might cost you a beer.~D What you refer to as blitzing is still holding back by my standards. If I would find it to be fun, I probably could conquer the world before 220BC... I must admit, I'm pretty good at it. In the far future I might take up a campaign just for the speed record and to show everyone what really is the fastest time, I think Ptolemaioi, Makedonia or Romani are the best factions to do this.
Was that the Carthie guy you are talking about? HanBaal or something like that? He was quite fast indeed!
