I noticed that after starting a war against Roma, I got myself a general with Spartans for bodyguards... They slaughtered the Romans like persians in 300...but isn't EB suppose to be historical?

p.s. Carthage is getting rather fun, but I notice I can hardly recruit anything when I marched east. (and constantly meat-grinding with the Sister :daisy:-ing greeks.)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xanthippus_of_Carthage

You're actually obliged to read that, and quite possibly the referenced sources and any relative material you can get your hands on. It says so in the user agreement during the EB installation.

I have no intention of drowning him though! (if that's even possible with the rtw engine) He is happily rampaging through Italy atm.

Ahhh yesss.. Xanthippus, i remember the glorious days i used him against all the enemies (Romans, Gauls, And some Iberian rebels), its good to hear your are enjoying your Carthies campaign, and never forget the great wealth the iberian provinces can give you.

I encountered Xanthippos a while ago in my campaign. Let's just say that he learned not to mess with my Peltastai Makedonikoi and Hetairoi the hard way.

Just wandering: if Carthage can have a unit of Spartan hoplites (Xantipos): is that unit available for Carthage in local Mic in Sparta (if one, let's say, conquer Sparta with Carthies)?

nope, they aren't listed in EDB, but carthies can bribe Spartans (well, money always work well)

nah, that's bad things to do... and furthermore, Xanthiphos is Spartan, he may have some passion to kick off Makedonia too

You should read Polybios' Histories. Xanthippos is mentioned there. He won some battled thanks to a changed strategy. But left because of jealousy of the Carthaginian Senators, something that will get Hannibal in troubles as well.

I was about to say that....
and, yes, Xantiphoss is a Spartan, and Jebi in Cute Wolf's AAR.
he quitted, and became a Governor in Ptolemaioi Egypt

I despise the senators of carthage so much they caused its downfall if only we knew more about carthage, it would make history even more interesting :(

That'll take me more than a decade since I usually go very in depth with the faction I play. While a normal TW campaign would keep me busy for around 1 to 3 months, these tend to go (with pauses) to 6 months.

I second that. Even though I sometimes start campaigns with random factions just to play a few [in-game] years and get a feeling of the faction, a small taste if you like.

OK, I destroyed Roma with Xanti. I kinda feel guilty now.

Aside from the Victory Conditions, what incentives are there for Carthage to move east? I find the recruitment there VERY limited....

Idk, theres not much incentive for any faction to invade Egypt imo. Machimoi, hellenic skirmishers, and pandas are really the only units available to most factions there and none of those are anything to write home about.

Mine takes longer, but we should have ambition ;-)
Been trhough
Many Romas, none actually to VC, but have been past the invincible point where it is less fun.

Sweboz, same, except one where I was stubborn and did own all of Europe and get VC.

Baktria, one campaign owning all south of Pahlava and east of the Med, got bored, stopped. Very fun campaign.

AS, one, Passed invincible point and got bored.

Getai, same. Though if the campaign had not CTD-ed I had probably continued, Getai is fun.

I think my next project will be either attaining VC with Rome, Taking or blitzing the map with Sweboz, or a game as carties.

However, developing EB II tends to take away from game time I have noticed.

BTW Fluvius, I have bet a beer on you winning the Race, get to work!

They are rich and some wonders give others than incestous rulers bonii (ie, you get bonus as well).

Basically just as Sir Robin said, Carthage can recruit mostly levies on the east. Anyway, if you advance onto Antiocheia and conquer settlements in and around Syria , you'll be able to recruit some good units like Cretan and Sirian archers, Cappadocian hillmen, slingers, eastern light cavalry/infantry and some more units. These are very good units if you use them good + if you mix them with some local mercenaries (eastern mercenary poll is pretty decent: very good infantry and cavalry, expensive but worthy of every minai!) you'll be able to rise some good armies. Oh, yeah, in Kyrene you can recruit Hellenic classical hoplites!

Lead your migthy Carthaginians wisely :knight:

So I take it that half of the purpose of Europa Barbarorum is to sack Roma. Can you please enlighten me with the second half?
