View Full Version : I'm drinking a beer before noon
I don't usually do this, but I decided to have one of my favorite beers (Dogfish Head 90 min IPA- See Beer Thread) this morning after I woke up.
I'm really enjoying it, although I do kinda feel like an alcoholic. Anyone else ever try this?

Not a good sign this young. I'm guessing you're alone too?
I went thru a binge drinking phase not too long ago. As soon as the package store opened (10 AM) I was there to stock up and begin my trek to black-outedness. If I had some in the house I began as early as 7:45 AM. I was indeed an alcoholic. I worked nights, but at the time, had I not been working, it wouldn't have mattered what time it was, as long as I could get drunk. Don't miss it now I must say, save for that glorious sangria buzz (good homemade sangria, not the crap you get in the package store) I would get at some of the finer Mexican restaurants. Just straight iced tea for me now, and I much prefer it that way. If I get crazy I might add half a lime or a bag of mint tea to the brew however.
edit:

Alchohol keeps you company, but a woman is better.

Had a j first thing this morning, championship playoff final was on though in my defence, aslong as its not a regular thing I would say its ok....
I haven't had alcohol in years, and I am all the better for it. It is a waste of money, tastes awful, and being drunk is akin to banging your head against the wall and trying to piece together a calculas equation at the same time (not a pleasant experience).

Finally a point where I fully agree with Besk.

If it tastes awful, you are not drinking the correct stuff.

Hey, haven't had a beer for four days, bought some this morning and can hardly resist the temptation to take one off the frigde. That, or a glass of Muscat.

I'm really enjoying it, although I do kinda feel like an alcoholic. Anyone else ever try this?Don't make a habit out of it. Good people have lost everything to alcohol.
They thought they were having a party, then they woke up fifteen years later and realised they had wasted these years being pathetic, pityful, painful to watch, a burden.
I loathe alcohol!!! Ah, if only I knew that peace and beauty of the mind could be found thru quiet contemplation vs. the violent ondulations of alcohol, I would have indeed kept all that was important and not wasted a lamentable reality. A sweet, intoxicating taste of contented complacency not fouled by the bitter sullinenity of cheap liquor.

If I ever drink at all I will become an alcoholic. Same for cigarretes, I would be a chain smoker.
Once I get a habit I can't really let go.
Plus most people I know tend to be teetotal or alcoholics (if not all to the same degree).

Don't worry until you use vodka as a substitute for Listerine and your cough syrup begins to appeal to you in mass quanities
I attended AA briefly and there was this one fellow that told his story and within his story he noted how to hide his dependency on alcohol (mainly to himself), he would drink Listerine in order to become intoxicated. Never tried it myself, I would just avoid any oral care at all when drunk.
Then why do people do it?
It is completely illogical, and it is something I will never personally understand. I can only explain it that people want to make themselves ill with foul-tasting liquid for the fun of it.
I remember when I was younger, when you are in the stage where you go "Wow, you can have alcohol legally now!", everyone is like "don't mind the taste, you get used to it!" and they just drink galleons of this foul tasting liquid in a variety of flavours, ranging from nail-polish remover, terps, gasoline, foamy urine and fairy liquid.
If it tastes awful, you are not drinking the correct stuff.
Oh, you mean alcopops and cocktails?
Alcopops are a waste, they are about twice the expense of a normal fruit drink, just to make it taste worse. They have very negligible "drunk factor" effects. So you would need to drink like ten bottles of a subpar drink, which would be £20 easily, just to feel anything. There is really no point to them, they are a waste of time and money.
I do like a good cocktail though. These are the only alcoholic drinks I can actually drink, is a good cocktail. From the likes of sunsets, mojito's, etc, they are pleasant, though you can usually tell the bad ones a mile away, and get loaded with paint stripper in the mouth.
Overall, alcohol is a complete waste outside the odd cocktail, which you have to treat yourself. Last time I had alcohol was one and a half years ago in a "fancy cocktail bar" in Riga, Latvia.

Personally I genuinely enjoy a good rum, and an ice cold pint of Erdinger after a days work is heaven. I think alcopops taste foul, except for "Mac & Ernies Alco Cola" which I got wasted on many years ago and have never seen again, if it wasn't for a friend also remembering it I would assume it was a dream.

Err, perhaps their experience is different from yours?

Hence the "never personally" understand. :juggle:
Though with the anti-freeze, cough-syrup and listerine references, it looks like I am correct more than being incorrect.

Yeah like LG says if it's not regular it's fine (you probably just woke up early and started chilling). I just remember this one guy who lived on my floor who used to drink every day when I went to 9 AM class... "Have a beer it tastes better if you just brushed..."

I am at the stage where you either just quit drinking altogether or accept that you are an alcoholic.
I usually have a beer and ponder the question.
Oh, there is 10 of you and one of me, I make that Pimm's o clock!

Unless you have drank a bottle of Poitín before breakfast I can safely say none of you are too far gone in the drinking stage I am a bit mystified as to the need for a particular time but each to his own I suppose.
Some of the best times I ever had on the beer where in the early house in Dublin after a night shift in Intel or an early day on the sauce after the cattle mart you really get to talk as opposed to shouting later on that night when the big crowds are in and no seat available.

Yup
I've done that before as well, I have had duvel and delirium tremens for breakfast. However it's something I wouldn't do too often, though it can be a great start if you're having your occasional party day.
I was quite a heavy drinker in my first year at college, while not healthy I wasn't addicted or anything but I was scared becoming it so I didn't drink for two months straight. Either way as you probably know from the beer thread, I start drinking after those two months again. While I still at times get really drunk or sometimes get drunk more than once a week it's now something that happens once each couple of months.
Alcohol can be great to party or can even help you with hitting on women (somehow I can only do this decently when being at least a little drunk :s). But it's not something you should do on your own on a daily basis. Like any drugs.

this is not a good thing, I think. Generally you shouldn't drink before mid day. Alchohol is addictive, so forming bad habits with it is dangerous.

some people have an almost allergic reaction to alchohol, which ruines the taste, your experience is not typical. Several other possibilities present themselves as well, from crap pubs that never clean the lines to generally crap drink from mass-produced soulless breweries.
What sort of things did you drink, I'm curious?
Oh, you mean alcopops and cocktails?
Um, no.

I strongly disagree. The point between not being drunk enough, and being too drunk, is the best place in the world.

I'll admit to loving some wine, perhaps more than I ought to... but I don't understand why anone would willingly attempt to do calculus equations, regardless of sobriety.

Just remember, it's after noon somewhere in the world. ~;)

Or you don't like the flavor of the alcohol itself. I don't, which is why I'm not a drinker. It's very hard to be one when all hard drinks have the distinct feature of tasting like someone mixed in nail polish remover. There are very few beers I can stand. I MUST shanty wine with either pop or fruit juice. And I'll only drink coolers.

I don't drink before midday very often, but I will do it before music festivals or if I am going out to watch a sporting event all day. Basically anything where being drunk can only enhance the experience.
