Today my brother broke his arm at school, and it made me think of some of the injuries I've had throughout the years.

I never split my head like everyone in my class seemed to, but I did have some fairly nasty stuff. For example, when I was fighting with my other brother, he slammed a door on my toe and it made my toenail come off. And another time I was running back from school when I tripped and grinded the right side of my face along some gravel, left me with a big puss-sy (that spelling doesn't look right but I'm not putting it back to the way with the two s's and no hyphon) scab covering nearly half my face for ages. Also not very spectacular but I dislocated my arm once. The only bone I've ever broken was one near my thumb when it got trampled on. Plus I injured my neck once playing football, and that still flares up, I'll use it as my excuse for why I never made it to the big time...

So, any interesting stories of your injuries and how you got them?

One time I was doing a handstand on my own version of parallel bars. I could do it but couldn't keep my balance very long. One time as I tried to push myself out of a 90 degree arm bend, I lost all my strength. My arms were by my side and I fell square on my face. Needed stitches. Another time I punched a wall (it's a long story), mangled my hand, needed surgury and had a pin sticking out of my pinky knuckle for 5 weeks. It still occasionally aches to this day. Needless to say, that was enough to convince me to get my anger under control.

Never broke any bones, but about 10-11 years ago I busted my chin open and required something like 36 stitches (3 layers in total) to close it up. The scar's still there and still pretty big.

And, of course, countless dozens of shots to the balls coming from my four years as a camp counselor.

Grade III groin strain. Rushed into playing football when I wasn't quite fit yet. Possibly one of the most painful things I've experienced, like someone was stabbing my inner thigh with red hot pokers.

Broken six fingers broke my tibia broke my wrist broke my nose. Football and fighting mostly

I have a nasty scar on my leg. I got stabbed when I was younger by a friend when we were goofing off and he told me we should cauterize it and it would heal (needed stitches) I thought this was an awesome idea and he did it most painful experience of my life I threw up from stench. Its not really like a noticeable scar but I let it stand testament to my idiocy and obsession with medieval medicine and lifestyles

edit: and i still had to get stitches......... i hate stitches had quite a few of those.

Almost lost an eye as a child, the nail missed it by less than an inch. Wrecked my knee playing soccer years ago, it's ok now but never 100% again. Hurt my wrist skiing some time ago, annoying but nothing major. Rolled an ankle, lost some toenails, dealt with road rash. I've actually been pretty lucky.

My right foot is in technicolor at the moment, not sure what broke (soccer again) but it's going to be a couple of weeks before I can play again.

Meh, kids! Chainsaw wound behind the left leg, two arteries torn (out of the three going down to the foot), post-tibial nerve cut, 10 inches scar.
Enough said?

HA cut of my finger with a fridge. Yes a fridge. Also got stabbed in a fight, and my horse Murachi (rip mia muca) in concert with gravity was hilarious to some but dear god what a prick. I have taken many a jumping course sans-horse. Had a sense of humor I am sure of it.

I have never wounded myself seriously, and I have no plans of doing that in the future, either. I've done alot of work on the farm through the years, but all my limbs are intact thus far. Most, perhaps all, of my scars come from pretty trivial things, like when I once was going to cut a frozen American muffin in two halves, and ended up cutting stright through my left index finger, through the nail. :beam: I probably missed the bone, but the scar is still pretty pronounced many years after.

Gah! I forgot my main one!

When I was in nursery, a TV fell off the wall and landed on my head. I don't remember it, but apparently it happened just around when my grandparents were picking me up, and I was staggering around like I was drunk. :laugh4:

Had problems with the hearing in my left-ear ever since.

Bet the story explains a lot doesn't it...

he slammed a door on my toe and it made my toenail come off. I had that. I was playing football, and the ball truned out sturdier than my toenail. God, it hurt. For months it did, Until then, I had never really noticed just how often you bump your foot into something or just how often people step on your toes. Excruciating pain.

I also once broke a rib. On the dancefloor. While dancing. Alone.

No more breakdancing moves to impress (mostly imaginary) female spectators for Louis. http://matousmileys.free.fr/tr36.gif

Managed to somewhat spectaculary fall down a set of stairs and crack my head open when I was 6, ironically it was in a soft padded play area

Also fallen off a few ladders and had a basketball demolish the nail on my right thumb

Jesus, all that ever happened to me was a hairline fracture in my right ring finger.

I guess I'm just coddled. :sweatdrop:

I broke my chin when I was 2 years old. My parents were taking out the old kitchen for a new one and I pulled myself up on the oven/stove. It fell on me and I had to eat through a straw for a few months. Not that I remember anything about it but I still cary the scar. My teeth are also somewhat crooked because of it.

Last year I chopped a it of my left index finger while chopping some fire wood. They sewed it back on in the emergency room so I no problems there. It was quite funny that the doctor was rambling about the chainsaw massacre movie while working on my finger. That and I heard a nurse talking about someone loosing a finger when I was waiting for the doctor.

Injuries...

Front teeth knocked out (as a child - luckily new grew back)
Fell from the top of a tree and broke my wrist + banged up my face.
Fell off from the top a football goal and broke my other wrist.
Got stabbed in my thigh with a 26 cm Survival knife (Rambo knife) which cut an artery.
Crushed my ankle which ended any athletic career I might have had (tibia snapped in two and fibula in several pieces - still not 100%).
Broke fibula in the other leg during training in Scotland (not treated).
Have glass fragments still surfacing the skin of my head after a car crash back in 90' or is it from a bottle that got crushed on my head in Scotland in 93'?

I guess that's the worst of them...

A pure accident...
I could tell a fib about a hand to hand combat with a Spetsnaz, but I have only myself to blame.

Nothing too serious, thankfully. Opened up my thigh during a moterbike accident... 30/40 stitches to get the muscle and skin back together. Check out my old playground (Motorcycling) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hinOBl3H_XU Thats not me on the bike, just showing what the road is like.

Had back surgery at the age of 19 and at the age of 22, because of a birth defect.

Apart from that, nothing serious (but root canal treatments are not fun).

Fractured skull with a blood clot on the brain, 7 years ago last week, I very nearly died.

Broke my thumb once too, both were sports injuries.

That is actually the truth, but he would have to kill us, if he really told us that.

been injured so many times, don't know which is most serious :clown:. overall, I don't consider any to be particularly bad, or nasty, injuries. just regular everyday accidents to me :

well, I gashed my head on a heater when I was five;
damaged (and possibly broke), some fingers in basketball,
been socked twice in the stomach by a football (soccer), both times resultung in internal bleeding (not srs enough for the hospital; just dyed my **** red)
sprained and twisted my ankle repeatedly.
damaged my left knee to heck trying soccer.
dislocated (miraculously without breaking), my nose in a ball accident. still slightly off-kilter to this day, and causes regular pain and nose bleeds.
burned my eyes chemically with salt (my sister threw it in my face jokingly, not knowing any better)
stabbed accidentally my left hand.
was gashed in the head by my brother while playing (Dad spanked him even though I quickly forgave him)-still have the scar from that.
both my arms gashed by overgrown cats, once to the bone (I was a skinny kid, so bear with me-its perfectly feasible), and burned both hands chemically with HCl. burned my left arm badly with microwaved rice (I know, silly).
I tore my left shin muscles off my bone (a feat I never though possible); since recovered mostly, though still twinges every once in a while.
I might have possibly broken two ribs in a light manner (i.e, green-stick) in a bicycle accident (otherwise, they wouldn't have been as out of kilter as they are now).
had a car roll over my left foot-unknown effects.
badly bruised left hand and right forhead falling off a bus at 40 km/hr (25 mph) (I was pushed; sorta. someone pulled at my schoolbag, which forced me forward and to turn around, causing me to take a drop).
burned my left cheek, right forehead, and mouth from a sugar experiment (yes, a genuine experiment, to determine how best to separate salt from sugar in a mixture).
suffered multiple cases of frostbite in Colorado; I'm still recovering the use of my fingers and toes, esp. the latter. (wait, does that count as an injury?). was praised by Richard for determination to get the job done at www.kronoskaf.com, but also warned about the dangers of it-he being used to the cold. (my first frostbite case was in Texas actually; I caught it because the internet was down at home, and I had to send several plates to Richard. the only solution was college, but it was closed (even though the internet was on), so I had to use the internet outside in subzero weather; took 5-6 hours to discharge my duties. I wasn't able to make plates for a week and two days, as opposed to one every 3 days)
possibly cracked multiple spines in a go-cart accident; I do know it hurts to this day.

that's all I could remember off the top of my head. overall, I am thankful that I was never seriously injured.

Nothing serious over here, except a splashy head wound received in a bar in Boston when I attempted to break up a fight. Couldn't tell you how I got it, but the ER doc was picking splinters out of my skull, so a wooden object was involved. All I knew was I woke up on my back in the rain.

Amusing side-note: The ER was out of painkillers, so they couldn't give me anything. "How can you be out of painkillers?" I demanded. The doc shrugged. "We just are."

So there. Oh, and the scar is above my hairline, and it looks like I'm never gonna go bald, so the whole thing is quite well hidden.
