The big question.
Getting one this summer, never had a console, I hated them and I still do, except that the DRM of some games forced me to switch. And one game that's only available on consoles forces me to purchase.

So, my main ones are Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood, upcoming, and obviously, Gran Turismo 5. What should I get then? Xbox or PS3?
TV is not a problem, so im looking for pure fun. I will be looking at other games in the future, but im getting a console mainly for these two. More for GT5, im crazy about GT.

Playstation is the devil's console.

I'm a Nintendo man (yeah yeah), but I support the XBOX over the hated Playstation.

Plus, x, circle, square and triangle? Why so complicated?

It just comes down to what console exclusives that you want, and since you really want GT5 which is only on PS3, then the choice should be obvious.

Amusing that GT5 is ever released. :dizzy2:

As far as which is better? Eh. Both have a lot of strengths and their share of weaknesses. It all comes down to what library of games interests you more. Personally I like strawberry ice cream, but i hear some people are perfectly fine with chocolate.

PS3 because of the upcomming art-house service. Xbox used to be the better choice but that crude black monster is really starting to shine.

The big question.
The small answer: PS3

I'm a Nintendo man (yeah yeah)
Exactly, the scientific term would be Nintendo girl. ~;)

That.

What art-house service? Is that related to the grind-house service? My black MLP(My Little Playstation) has been shiny ever since I bought it, that's why it looks good on my table.

The greatest thing ever, huge arthouse collection on demand. But because it's Sony IT WILL CHANGE HOW WE THINK ABOUT MULTIMEDIA FOREVER, as always, so we will just have to wait and see.

PS3...
The most stable unit on my wireless network. (Xbox360 needs a wireless gadget?)
Online playing is free.
Blue-ray

Ya, more good exclusives on the PS3 imho, and most of xbox's best titles that don't make it on the PS3 can be played on the pc as well. Xbox is a bit of the poor man's pc.

Xbox360, easily.

It has the biggest user base, thus the most active number of people online. so much so, Call of Duty MW2 for example, has 4 times the users on Xbox360 than PC and PS3 put together.

As for "PS3 has free online", Playstation are changing this, and charging people £10 per month for it. Xbox only charges people £3.60 per month.

PS3 exclusives are completely overrated and any good games which are on the PS3 are also on the Xbox360.

It also has the best controller. I even use it for my PC.

PS3 was the poor mans Blu-ray player, because when it first came out, it was cheaper than a stanalone Blu-ray player. Only reason many people bought it.

I know of a few people with both consoles, and the only reason they still only have the PS3 is because of the blu-ray function, while they are playing the hours away on their Xbox360.

Hearsay!!
The current PSN will stay as it is = FREE!!! They are only discussing adding a Premium feature that you need to pay for.
The Xbox is noisier, scratches the game disks and is butt-ugly :beam:

So unsubstantiated rumors and pictures of designs that never came to use are the only things that make the PS3 bad?
Blu-Ray is actually a big advantage because Blu-Ray is great.
And how many people of that superbig userbase can you play with simultaneously at any given time anyway? How many of them don't constantly get on your nerves?
And why are PS3 exclusives like Uncharted and Demon's Souls overrated?

PS3 for Demon Souls. :yes:Truly, a gamer's game.
I too am a Nintendo fanboy, but (in addition to the Wii) I bought a PS3 and never regretted it. The 360 never interested me- the only big exclusive that comes to mind is the Halo series, and they've really been milking the hell out of it.

PS3 is the more reliable piece of hardware, and its the only way to get Demon's Souls(yeah, its good). Other than that, I'd say the only real reason to get an Xbox is halo, if you like that. However, since I think Halo's pretty much terrible, I wasn't swayed too much by that argument. Pretty good number of games are multi-platform. Plus, free online.

Not a fan of Halo or other futuristic stuff, I just stick to the real deal, aka AC2, AC3 and GT5.

Leaning towards PS3. Fat version or slim version?

How much longer before the next-gen consoles come out? The PS3 came out in 2006, right?

Natal and Move are set to hit the market very soon, it is unlikely that Microsoft and Sony would abandon the 360 and Ps3 so soon after launching their motion innovations. The current generation still has 2 years at the very minimum left in it, maybe more (imo).Though, we might see some movement from Nintendo before then. Who knows?

The only reason I'd get a fat PS3 in this day and age is if it's one of the ones with the PS2 hardware builtin. Since that particular model is no longer in production, I'd say get a slim.

Its down to choice but general views on both are,

Exclusives - debatable do you want Halo/Gears of War or Uncharted/God of War/Demon Souls this is down to you but most of the recent exclusive high rated games seem to be on PS3.

Build quality - PS3 is by far the best built, most 360 users you speak to have had at least one issue.

Online - Xbox live is generally considered much better, PS3 is free though.

Blu ray - PS3 only and yes its very good, also you can update the HD and fill it with bluray rips ftw.

3D havnt seen this mentioned PS3 only and its coming very soon films and games you do however need a 3d tv.

motion 360s natal looks very good on previews, not reviewed yet though, PS's move not gone down brilliantly so far.

Bear in mind the 360 is due to be revamped also soon.

I wouldn't buy a console. The games are way to expansive compared to their PC counterpart, no strategy games (except some on the Xbox 360) and you're stuck with the big devs instead of those smaller ones who make the better games. Don't buy it, instead buy a better computer if you can.

360. ps3 blows.

live is better and there is a new 360 build coming out right?

and natal looks fascintating

If you want a console then i would suggest the PS3, it has the exclusive games that you want (GT5), and as someone who has considerable experience with both consoles i would also say the PS3. Because it doesn't have the reliability issues of the Xbox, online is free and the difference in quality for online is not that noticeable. And last but not least the PS3 is constantly being kept up to date by Sony when it comes to the likes of 3D compatability whereas Xbox has a habit of releasing a new console everytime they want to milk new trends and innovations (new console to use 3D and Natal).

Just my two cents.

Build wise, as a console, I imagine the PS3 is probably better. I do however have to disagree with the above poster. From my point of view, as someone who plays predominantly FPS and RPG games, The 360 exclusive games blow the PS3 out of the water. Gears of war, (the PS3 only has KIllzone, lol..), Left 4 dead, the Halo series and of course the brilliant Mass Effect series. I don't play racing games but from what I've heard, the Forza series is just as good as the Gran Turismo series.

The 360 also gets DLC earlier for many games such as map packs for FPS games and bonus episodes for games such as GTA. Live is also far superior to PSN if you plan on playing with others. That's my opinion though, it depends what sort of games your interested in really and you might actually find the PS3 exclusive games more to your liking.

Because even though hardly anyone has a HD television, they will be releasing for something else no one owns, especially in this recession.

That and 3D tv is really awkward, a whole lot of trouble for some gimmickry effects. Nintendo has a much better take on 3D with their 3DS.

I would reccomend Xbox 360. Halo( people saying its being milked are usually the ps3 fanboys that have never played it :P ), Gears, Mass Effect, Dragon age. I worked in my local GAME store for years and believe me, we saw just as many faulty ps3's come back as 360's.

You appear to be a big fan of racing sims, on 360 you have Forza, an excellent racing game that has the bonus of actually being out on the shelves to buy and play.

What can I say about online? Well the old saying "You get what you pay for" really rings true here. Also, I'm on there and I rock! :)

Control pads are far superior on the 360 and more ergonomic too.

New 360 hardware is whisper quiet and has wifi built in.

I do own a PS3 aswel but it just sits there gathering dust, perhaps I should take it for a walk and put it out of it's misery.

Hey i can reply to this!

I own both also and honestly i wouldn't buy either system just for one game. Both have their positives and drawbacks.

One nice thing about the PS3 is it has internet access which the 360 doesn't have besides that i tend to play the 360 more. One of the nice things about the 360 is you can load your games onto the harddrive to save wear and tear and heating on the system which is a must if you play for any extended period.

Also if you get a console, and this is more from personal preference, despite what the manuals say try to keep all the air intakes clear. Those suckers heatup quick so we placed ours up on wooden shims and it made a huge difference.

Also don't forget to connect the system you get online everyonce in a while,if you don't plan on having it constantly connected, for system and game updates.

Both have internet access, but if you mean wireless, then the 360 has that now too.

PS3 also allows you to install games, but if I'm not mistaken it is necessary which can be annoying if you are just borrowing a game to see if you like it. On 360 installation is only optional.

Since when does the 360 let you browse the internet?

That must have been in a system update and i didn't notice it.

To tell you honestly, and coupled with the above 360 miss makes me question myself,i've never noticed that you could download the games on the PS3

PS3 has a browser but it's absolute trash, crashes all the time, just doesn't respond, checking 'remember me' box is more like therapy because it won't. E-mails just don't open, in short it ' CHANGES THE WAY WE THINK ABOUT BROWSING THE INTERNET' Sony style.

Still recommend the PS3
