View Full Version : Can there be a limit set on the number of units?

Hi, I was wondering if you can limit the recruitment to a specific number of units? You know five of this type or two of that type. Is it possible to script this into the game? I've got the area recruitment thing up working OK (or it seems to) but i would like to limit the recuitment of particular units.
Any tips from you chaps?

Do you want to limit the number that exist at any one time, or limit the total number which can be recruited. If the second, it might be easier to script their appearance, but make them unrecruitable.

Hi, thanks for the reply dude, unfortumately the latter if it is possible, though the first might be quite usefull as well. But I was really wanting to limit the possible number of a unit rcruited.
I'll tell you what it's for. I'm doing a mod from RTW which is a bit like empire, but a semi-fictional setting eg the english are the Albion's the Prusians the Pruzzlander and so on. During that era some of the nations recruited foreighn regiment, particularly the French, with Irish, German's, Scot's, Waloon's etc. To a lesser extent so did Austria Spain and Holland. If you just build a unit, which is a foreign type than you could end up with most of the army of France being recruited by the computer as Waloon's or Irish or whatever. So i was wanting to set a limit on the number recuited. Perhaps the best solution is to make the recuitment slow and in limited locations etc.
Anyway any advice is welcome.

Or perhaps make them mercenaries available in certain regions only? Although the AI wouldn't use them...

Good idead Dude, though i have seen the AI pick up mercs from time to time. One of it's weakness is that it doesen't do that enough.
I think a combination of the above would be probably work out fine.
