Hello,

I'm having some problems with my Internet connection and I'm guessing this is the best place to ask (on the .Org)?

A few months ago the Internet was upgraded to 'faster' speeds which gave a rate of 150/kb download, but any better options were usually $50 too expensive. After several more month's of stuff-up's from the Internet provider they promised a deal of $50pm for ADSL2+ and 25GB. Was the exact same price for the current deal so I took it.

Of course now there is a problem with that as well. The phone has been really crackly and its hard to hear on one of them (lots of noise). After doing some research about it apparently I need to upgrade the line filters to a ADSL2+ standard which will also give me better speeds (Am getting 5mb speeds right now). Is this right, with the filters, and do I need to have a filter for every single phone, or can I just buy a central filter/splitter?

If it wasn't for all the noise on the phone the connection would be perfect...

Uhm, I'm a bit unclear on the terms here, I just upgraded to VDSL, which may just be the same as the ADSL2+ you speak of, but it would help if you could give some numbers.
Usually it's:
768kb/s - 6Mbit/s - ADSL
6MBit/s - 16MBit/s - ADSL2
16MBit/s - 50MBit/s - VDSL (ADSL2+ ?)

Or that's how I know it here in Germany.
Also, did you get any new hardware when you upgraded or did they just leave you with the old hardware? And how exactly are the pieces connected assuming you didn't get some über all-in-one box like I did? (for the naysayers, it has 5 years warranty!)

Noisy line? Ring phone provider. Telstra handle line faults, what plan are you on (and which ISP?)

I'm stuck with a bigpond plan, so euuurrggh for me.
