Hi guys. I just bought Rome: Gold Edition. But when i put it in the drive my pc won't recognise that there is a dvd in the drive. It's like i closed the drive empty. I tried other dvd's and cd's and my pc won't recognise some of them with no particular reason. I checked the requirements of the game and they are OK but as i said the problem happens with some of my dvd's and cd's no matter the content. I tried both the game and the others that didn't work in my fathers laptop and they were running just fine. Any ideas and solutions?

Well, there is a bunch of possible problems.

Problems with the disks. (Stratched, Dirty, etc)
It could be a problem with reading certain formats. (hence how some can be recognised or not)
It could be a driver issue with the DVD drive. (which could also cause the above error)
It could be a virus/spyware. (Pesky things)
It could be that your DVD drive needs to go in the dustbin. (self-explanatory)

Firstly, I recommend checking the disks to see if they are clean, or contain many marks or stratches.

Second, I recommend sweeping your computer for viruses and spyware, just to be on the safe-side.

It if it not the above two steps, then look for new drivers for your DVD drive on the internet, and download them.

Once you got the correct drivers, go to device manager and uninstall your existing driver (may ask for restart afterwards). After this is done, install the new drivers for it (this will require a restart afterwards).

Then test it again.

You will probably get some one more knowledgable replying sooner or later, but the above should give you a good headstart.
