View Full Version : Windows 7 error: Game goes Ka-Phail when I try start a campaign

I recently found my old MTW CD's lying around, so decided to install them and play them, however, whenever I choose to start a campaign, the game begins to load, but then as soon as it finishes loading it immediately opens the Pause menu, when it does this the bottom 1/10th of the screen is taken up by choppy black crap (Very fond of technical terms here XD) and if I try click resume, it loads, returns to menu, <Insert Infinite Loop Here> unless I choose to quit, the result being I don't get to play. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit (6.1, Build 7600) on a TOSHIBA Satellite L599, and 2048MB RAM. I have Direct X 11.
Any help MUCH appreciated, and if this is posted in the wrong place... Sorreh
1) First apply the fix in this thread: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?79500-MTW-crashing-or-getting-hung-up-on-loading-A-couple-solutions.&p=1921448&viewfull=1#post1921448
2) Create the empty text file "skipcredits.txt" and place it in your MTW directory - e.g. "C:\Program files\Medieval Total War\" or wherever you've installed the program.
Try running the game again.

I did a similar thing to Zacman. stumbled across a spare MTW gold disc and box and popped it onto a Windows 7 Home Prem 32 bit U230 netbook. 2 gig ram and 128 ati dedicated graphics. Game seemed to install and load ok withoout mega delays. selected england as starting faction and as soon as i clicked on and moved an agent piece the game crashed with a message 'med tw exe has stopped working'.
This game really hates me.
Hello Wytchfynder,
The campaign game will always crash on any "modern system" either during loading, or randomly while in game - unless you install the button fix first.
