Ok.... Thanks to the powers that be, I appear to now be a senior member..... Thanks

A friend and I are making a MOD based on an old board game called GreyHawk: Wars. As you might have guess it is set in the greyhawk Ad&D world. We are close to getting the Strategic map going, so as I understand we have alot done already... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Currently I am creating the ccastle flags for the diffrent factions we are going to use and have run into a bit of a obstacle.

The games uses a single .bif with multiple frames to store the flags that one sees about the castles on the strategic map. This is great except that with these .bif 's there is only the one pallet for the entire .bif not ne per frame, so after making a bunch of nice flags in 256 colour .bmp 's I find out that since the pallet for the castle flags .bif is already set (and there doesn't seem to be a way to extract the pallet from the bif reader) when I import my flags they get messed up because it is using the wrong colour index. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

I managed to take a screen shot of the pallet and save that then used the pallet that photoshop creates by using the colours that are on the screen shot then applying that pallet to the pictures I made making the colours change a bit (not to much of a problem, I guess) but pallet is not in the same order that the .bif wants it. I also tried pulling it through MSPaint but that also messes up the colour (although diffrently). http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif

I am using bifReader v22

So, my questions are:

1- is there an easy way to do this?
2- if so what? and if not what is the solution?

I presume you've used the "Export all frames" option of BifReader to create the .bmps, edited the /bmps and are not trying to use the "Import all Frames" option to rebuild the bif.

If so, you MUST import the frames into the existing version of the bif. Do NOT create a new bif for importing your bifs into. Rather, open up the 'Castleflags.bif' again and "Import all Frames" into this bif (obviously it's a good idea to save a copy before you do this). In this way the "Colour Mode" of the bif will be preserved and your new images should look ok.

Wow... that was easy. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
What I was doing was exporting the frames editing them, switching to indexed colour then expecting them to display properly in the .bif when I imported them.... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

ya right, should have know better. Just never had to work on multiple fram .bif's before, didn't know that there is only one pallet for all the frames.

thanks man http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

nother little question....

is there any way to change a colour from what it is, say red and change that to appear transparent?

to clairify, lets say you wanted to make all the pixels coloured with index 180 and change it so they are coloured with 0. How would one do that without having to use the pencil and go over every pixel?

ok don't bother answering that one..... figured a work around http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
