View Full Version : Mini Mafia Game The Lost of Undermountain [Concluded]

Undermountain has always sat beneath the City of Splendors. A Cavern system made in greed and lost to horrors untold, none in their right mind enter its maddening depths. And among the fools that do, none return unchanged. The darkness hides horrors untouched by time. And they all Hunger.
The mountain caverns have been the choice punishment of the Watch of Waterdeep for many decades. Those who displease the city soon find themselves exiled into Undermountains cold embrace. And more so even than the monsters, the mountain shows no pity…..

The creature let his mind expand, reaching out to the prisoner with his mental magic. The prisoner tried to stop him, but none are more adept at mental magic than the Mindflayers. His Tentacles wriggled deeper into the Lizardfolks head, and he intensified his assault. The prisoner broke easily enough, but still something Held the Mindflayer back. A Golden wall however stopped his mind from combing through the prisoners thoughts.
The Ilithid cursed and withdrew his tentacles. The prisoner fell heavily to the ground, his head bleeding and his mind almost broken once again.

Yhamask dispassionately closed the portal that made up the only way out of the prisoners cell, once again disappointed in his lack of progress. He walked down the long Corridor, hardly gazing through the translucent walls at the dozens of cells waiting just behind the psionically made crystal. His thoughts quickly sorted through the information he had learned this day, so that he was ready to present it to the rest of his enclave by the time he reached them. The Lizardfolk was still not broken, something which caused him a small amount of emotion. It was becoming obvious that the creature was not simply some simple shaman, He must have some kind of divine favor. A catch like that could be a great boon to Yhamask, but only if he could be broken. The Rest were far less valuable to him, but most could be easily turned into slaves…. Or, he thought, put to other important purposes. There was a large banging to the Ilithids right, and he turned to see the dwarf staring through his cell wall at him. The dwarf threw his hand up in a unpleasant gesture, and Presented his bare bottom to the Ilithid as his mouth formed every dwarven curse he had. That was more than a few.
Yhamask sighed and stared at the dwarf, his mind coming down like a ton of bricks on the dwarf. He expected a fight. What he got was a brick wall as the dwarf threw all of his rage and hate towards the invading tendril of thought. The Mindflayer recoiled, stunned. He shook his head and snarled a word of command. The wards in the room activated, seizing the dwarf’s muscles and causing him to collapse in agony.
The Mindflayer hissed and started walking once again. The evening meeting was going to have to deal with some key issues, that was no doubt. And…. of course, there was some important decisions that needed to be made, to ready for the upcoming grand experiment.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When the cell walls simply disappeared, there was a few moments of shock in the mind of every prisoner. Most simply stood there, expecting an Ilithid to march in at any moment. It was5 minutes before any managed to work up the nerve to actually leave their now broken cell and venture into the corridor. Garl thundered out of his cell with as much stealth as his Minotaur frame could muster (he was only heard for 50ft around him, rather than the normal 100). He stood in the corridor tentatively, not knowing if he was going to be punished at any moment. Other moved out as well.
This corridor had been home to 20 prisoners. Now they all slowly exited their rooms, all casting their eyes about waiting for their captors to return. All bore the marks of their time spent here, long and horrific scars, missing limbs, blank looks in those who had already lost their sanity. The Aura of fear was like a tangible fog in the room, each and every one of them terrified beyond what most would think possible.
And then someone started laughing. Dovcil McNeill threw back his head and started howling with laughter, rich and deep. “I told those squids they could never keep me! I told’em!” The dwarf started to slap his own arm muscles, flexing and laughing “Can’t never keep a dwarf trapped forever!”
Every other prisoner looked at the dwarf, utterly confused.
Roger Conrad scratched his head “Are you by any chance completely crazy?”
“A better question is laddie, are YOU!” The dwarf laughed even louder. Roger frowned and shook his head.
A kobold coughed loudly “not that this conversation isn’t great and all, but uhhh….. maybe we should leave before we all get torn to little pieces by the Ilithids. Koobboollld”
The prisoners all murmured in assent, and the large group started rushing down the corridor towards what they hoped was freedom.
They passed through several large rooms Before reaching a large hall, the edge of the Ilithids tunnel system. The Hall Was also guarded by 4 burly thralls, Humans each holding a long sword and shield.
The Unarmed prisoners stopped dead, unsure as to what they would do now. The thralls looked blankly at the escapee’s, but moved forward to stop them all the same. The swords came up, and the prisoners panicked. A few bolted back towards the cells, but a majority Hurled themselves at the thralls.
Garl Faced off with one the thralls by himself, Throwing one of his massive arms in the path of its blade, accepting the crippling hit to tear away the things shield and Then lift the small human bodily from the ground. His left arm cut to the bone, he hurled the Thrall into the wall before he could move his sword to attack once again. Picking up the shield he had torn from him he roared and charged.
The Thrall weighed 140 pounds. Garl was over 500. The thrall had no escape when the shield and Minotaur slammed him into the wall. The cracking sound could be heard through the entire hall.
Dovcil McNeill Cracked his knuckles and Charged his own Thrall, his shoulder dipping low to Tackle his enemy. The sword flew above the dwarfs ducking head, and both went sprawling onto the ground, the sword moving from his grasp. Dovcil Pummeled the Thrall with punches, his legs keeping the Thralls arms pinned. It took some time, but the thrall stopped struggling, his face a bloody mess.
Gringar the Goblin and Punikit the kobold both squared off with their own thrall, the two small creatures working together to bring the large thrall down by tripping up its legs. Gringar managed to grab a hold of one of the thralls blades, using the Human sized sword in both hands to Slit the Thralls throat.
The last thrall was brought down under the weight of the other prisoners, but not before killing 5 of the unarmed escapees. The guards dispatched, the prisoners bolted into the tunnels beyond the Ilithids compound, scattering into the dark.
-------------------------------------------------------
Mistledown swayed slightly as she walked, the light she had summoned seeming small and insignificant in the oppressive dark of the thin tunnel. The Nymph looked around every few seconds for any openings in the tunnel, but she had no real destination. Undermountain was bigger than the city of waterdeep itself, with most of its exits placed haphazardly in its length. Mistledown tried not to look down at her arms while she walked, already knowing what she would see. But she looked anyway. In the flickering light her arms looked like a mass of rope where her skin had scarred. Her right wrist ended abruptly where her hand was missing. Her expression grew pained as she took that look to its logical extreme and ran her left hand over her face. The scars she felt were almost like hammer blows hitting her. She almost broke down in tears, but simply shivered and marched on.
-------------------------------------------------------
The cavern had once been what appears to be a Goblin village. But in undermountain nothing lasts forever. The huts had been torn to pieces, and the only thing left alive was a group of Carrion crawlers
http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/MM35_gallery/MM35_PG31.jpg
Which were being torn apart by Garl. The Minotaur had taken one of the beams from a hut, and proceeded to smash a carrion crawler to pieces. Hunkering down, he stuffed some of the creature into his mouth, growling in displeasure.
“Well, glad someone found something to eat.” Roger said sarcastically, entering the cavern alongside Dovcil.
The dwarf burst out laughing “Aye lad! This big one knows how to make it in these caverns!”
Garl stood, hefting his impromptu club “ What do you two want? This is my food now, back off.”
Roger grimaced “no need to worry about that. I would rather eat my own arm than that stuff.”
From another tunnel entrance Gringar and Punikit entered, the goblin holding onto a stolen human sword, and the Kobold struggling to carry a shield. The Goblin twitched spastically and looked at the rest of the prisoners “hehehehe…. Look who else is here Pun.” The Kobold nodded and tightened his grip on the shield.
Roger sighed as he saw everyone getting ready to fight “You are all idiots. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I seem to have noticed we have about 4 weapons between us, almost no armor, hardly anything else of value. Oh yeah, and we are in one of the most dangerous places in the entire material plane! The only way we are going to get out of this place Is if we work together.” Another grimace “even then figure our chance of success is pretty much zero.”
Slashnos and Mistledown moved from the tunnel. The lizardfolk nodded “The Human is right. We must work together. The other 6 prisoners all nodded and murmured their assent.
Roger rubbed his hands together “then lets get out of this death trap.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Terms:
Undermountain (http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Undermountain)- Huge dungeon system underneath the City of Waterdeep. It was created by dwarves mining for mithral. But the huge veins went too deep, and over centuries Creatures slowly destroyed the dwarf clan, leaving the huge tunnel system inhabited by all manner of creature. It is a tunnel system larger than the city it rest below.
Lizardfolk (http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Lizardfolk)- race of reptilian humanoids.
Mindflayers (http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Illithids)- also called Illithids, octopus headed humanoids, they are skilled in psionics (mental magic) and are extremely arrogant. They keep huge amounts of slaves broken to their mind, and also preform insane experiments on their prisoners. For teh lolz.
Kobold (http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Kobolds)- More reptilian humanoids, they are small and normally weak, relying on trickery to prevail. (they also like to add the word Kobold to the end of their sentences. Nahhh, thats a lie.)
Goblins (http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Goblin)- .... you know what goblins are.
Nymphs (http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Nymph)- think Greek mythology nymphs.
Minotaur (http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Minotaur)- again, Greek mythology.
Humans- Hah, good one.
Dwarfs- Gimli
Material Plane (http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Material_Plane)- Place where normal things live. Earth.
Psionics (http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Psionics)- Magic, but more like telepathy stuff, basically these guys are psychics.

PC games = Awesomeness on a scale never seen before in RPGs anywhere in this or any universe.
Console games =
You do realise that Dragon Age was styled as the spiritual succesor of the PC Baldur's Gates? If you are enjoying DA you will enjoy BG, the graphics may be slightly dated but you aren't that shallow. Right?
Double A
06-21-2010, 21:30
Oh god no, I'll still play Age of Kings.
I really don't see the difference between console and PC games, other than controls, which go to PC. I meant really important things, like story or gameplay. Like how Anno 1404 is different (and childish) on the Wii.
There is a massive difference in the Balduer's gate PC and Console versions. They are practically very different games.
Balduer's gate on the console was a hack'n'slash, Balduer's gate on the PC was Open World.
The problem with BG2 and Icewind Dale was that it became too repetitive, after slaugthering hordes of monsters and putting a lot of time into the game it just keeps going that way. To me that becomes boring and repetitive, you´d never play that as a Pen and Paper campaign too boring. Anyway, how many players do we have?

Night 0:
The party marched through the tunnels carefully, always expecting some creature to leap out of the twists and turns. But for the most part Undermountain remained silent.
Garl marched at the groups point, his club scratching his large head “I don’t understand. Why the ilithids leave the cells with little guard. How come we escape so easy?”
Dovcil laughed loudly “isn’t it obvious you big lug. There is only one way those flayers let us go, and that’s only if they wanted us to escape. We have been playing into their hands ever since we left our cells.”
Roger looked at the dwarf “then why the hell didn’t you tell us that before we left our cells you idiot!”
Punikit shook his head “The dwarf knew it wouldn’t make any difference. Either we leave and hope we can outsmart the ilithids, or we stay and never even try.”
Dovcil smiled “the kobolds a smart one. Its right. This is our best chance.”
Slashnos Moved parallel to the dwarf “So it changes nothing. We still need to keep moving forward.”The entire Party tensed up As a sounds echoed down the hallway, The sound of Orc boots.
Gringar hefted his human sized sword “Company.”

End of Day 1:
The Battle was fiercer than anything Mistledown had ever seen. When they heard the Orcs approaching the prisoners had fallen back to a large chamber filled with stalagmites and a small stream. Hiding among the rocks and extinguishing all their lights they waited in silence for the Orc company to arrive. Roger had been furious, being the only one who could not see in the oppressive darkness.
It had taken only a few minutes for the orcs to file in, arrayed in 2 lines 6. Mistledown grimaced, they were hoping for a far smaller scouting party than 12. But they only had a few moments before one of the orcs noticed them, and so the entire grouped launched its attack on the surprised orcs. Dovcil Lept from his hiding place, the human sword in his hand Smashing one orc in the face and sending it dead to the cavern floor. Garl Hefted his club and Smashed another orc flat. Gringar and Punikit worked together once again, One holding a shield and darting forward while the other hefted the sword and struck. Slashnos Howled a war chant and Slashed another orc to ribbons. Mistledown however, held back and raised a hand, a orb of white light illuminating the area around her, and giving light to see by. He whooped in triumph and moved forward beside the Nymph.
In the first 5 seconds of combat 4 orcs were slain. But even then the rest of the group shook off its surprise and started fighting back. The prisoners were soon each met with their own combatants, and the better equipped orcs started getting the upper hand.
2 orcs broke off from the main fighting to confront Mistledown and Roger, and the rogue cursed and raised his sword to parry the orcs slashes. Mistledown started singing, her voices unbroken and strikingly beautiful as she weaved a spell. Then all at once she started laughing, the sound radiating like a physical force and hitting the orcs. They both stuttered and held back, moving onto their guard, affected by the spell. Roger nodded and moved forward, his sword trying several strikes on the orcs, testing their guard. Mistledown hardly notices, launching herself into another spell and taking a wuick look at the rest of the battle.
Garl had quickly dispatched his own orc, but had taken another nasty hit on his arm. Dovcil had also slaughtered his own orc, and both were aiding Punikit and Gringar against their pair of orcs. Slashnos was working circles around his orc and slowly bleeding him out.
Roger yelped in pain and Mistledown brought her attention back to her own battle. The orcs had obviously overcome her spell and were pressing forward, roger hardly holding on against the orcs sword strikes. Mistledown ended her spell, and a arrow flew from her outstretched hand to slam into one of the orcs. It growled in agony as the small arrow pumped acid into its stomach and fell to the ground. Roger smiled in glee and pressed forward once again, moving forward and forward and slamming the orcs sword down. Mistledown nodded and smiled taking another look around. The battle was all but over, the last few orcs running from the victorious party. Mistledown allowed herself to relax, They had won their first fight together with nothing to serious.
That is when the orc she had wounded with her arrow managed to crawl all the way over to the nymph, his arm pulling her down and his sword stabbing into her chest. Her eyes bulged as she starred at the orc and sword. She slowly slid to the ground, cursing herself for her stupidity with her dying breath.
Mistledown the Nymph (johnhughthom) Has been lynched. She was a Doctor

End of Night 1:
Night in the tunnels is whatever time everyone is tired at, and the part stopped in a large tunnel filled with small alcoves and niches. Each finding a place to stay they took turns watching the tunnel for any enemies.
Roger spent the night huddled in utter darkness, his only light dead farther back in the cavern system.
The air of the tunnel was filled with haunting screams and strange noises, but the watch was uninterrupted. When they awoke and set off once again they found everyone alive, if not well.

I roleblocked him last night, and we are all alive.
Running through the possibilities in my mind:
1) No night kills - Impossible b/c of doctor
2) Limited night kills - certainly possible
3) 1 kill / Night - Beskar Guilty; is this even possible with 7 people?
Thats all I have - but I thought it was worth a roleclaim.
Together with the failed unvote that is the most solid lead. Let´s see how Beskar responds...

IMO Beskar genuinely forgot to unvote, there is no motivation for him not doing so as even if he was the mafia, 1st round is unclear and uncertain.
I think the only reason you guys are citing that as a reason is because jht was a doctor

Since I don't think that Beskar is guilty based on that, I'll go with Khazaar.
On Pinman's reveal, I think that considering that CDf said that he would change his game styles, I'm not putting away the possibility that there might not even be a killer.
Actually I'll prefer no lynch, but assuming that we lynch today and there is a murderer amongst us, the odds are more favorable with 3 people in the final day phase (assuming standard set up, alas may not be so).
Also, another Pinman vs Beskar role reveal? *sigh* :clown:

The beginning write-up talks about a Mindflayer who can control the minds of others. The mafia is a conversion role?

I just don't see any obvious physical threat to us. The only baddy so to speak in the original write up was as you said, the mind flayer. Referring to the original write up once again, the Mind flayer doesn't seem to be the down to earth get up close and kill them kind of baddy, so I'm just not ruling that case out.
The mafia is a conversion role?
No idea, just pure speculation. I would be inclined to vote no lynch now but I'm being cautious because if there was a mafia/killer, if we lynch now the odds are more favorable later.
There has to be a killer, because there is a doctor.

Would you believe me if I said it was because of the unvote?
Because vote changing = scummy?
My original reasons become false as Johnhughthom did get scumtelled in another game which was mentioned, and he ended up dead in it. Hence I attempted to change my vote to an inactive (Centurion1).
Being honest, I thought the vote did change, but due to an slip-up, it didn't count. There was no "scum" at all in the action, and even then, a mafia wouldn't have known what his role was anyway, and if they didn't, they wouldn't have tried to unvote.
But nevertheless, I am not surprised to be either roleblocked or investigated on round one or two, as it always happens while others don't even get touched at all.
But now the mafia is laughing their behind off at this situation.
I clearly stated that I thought it necessary to lynch someone on d1. I´m sorry that it was a doctor but there was no falsehood in my statement or intentions. Beskar on the other hand is an experienced player who knows that you have to unvote.
Beskars vote for me is clearly an OMGUS vote with the great argument "Vote Khazaar As you are never usually active." looks like desperation to me...
@DIY: We´re playing mafia after all, there are usually killers in it. And to me the best clue is Pinmans roleblock. Unless that is some sort of metagaming I can´t see how you can ignore the best clue that we have at the moment.
IBeskar on the other hand is an experienced player who knows that you have to unvote.
Yet that doesn't count when you thought you did unvote. I only knew that I didn't when CDF posted the tally, which I then attempted to correct.
I stand by my vote on Beskar - I think we have to lynch him.

This is like the Methos-Pizza situation at the start of the year all over again... remember Swords and D20s 3? And there was another game before that where Methos first-nighted Pizza, I think. :laugh4:
To an observer (who's enjoying the writing btw, Drizzty), it's pretty clear that you were first-nighted because of the altercation between you and your accuser in Lylat Wars; it seems to be a typical case of masculine one-upmanship, a case of "he was a massive threat to me in a previous game, remove him in the first round!"
Metagaming is a poor way to win or lose a game, but look at it this way; it means people see you as a massive threat that needs to be dealt with (whether you're vanilla, pro-town, neutral or otherwise) which means you're bloody good at mafia, no?

End Of Day 2:
The tunnels seemed to stretch on and on. Each step forward seemed to bring the party no closer to the light of the world above. They passed through rooms of all architecture, those carved by the dwarves, by the Drows, by the Orcs and even goblins. But none of those rooms compared To the great hall they were now walking in.
The Walls stretched far above, seeming to go on forever. The Floor was massed with rubble from the halls ceiling. The rooms purpose was unimaginable, and its age uncountable.
Dovcil whistled, and the sounds echoed loudly through the room. Roger cringed and slapped the dwarf with his free hand, clutching his small torch and trying to keep the flame as unnoticeable as possible. The entire band huddled close and moved quickly down the great hall. It was an hour before they noticed they were being followed.
Garl growled quietly, whispering to the part "The walls..... What are those?"
Dovcil grunted "Driders. Things must live on the ceiling in packs. looks like 5 are coming towards us." The party brought out their weapons, all of them having looted weapons from the orc group they had destroyed the day before. The Driders moved in slowly, circling the group.
http://paizo.com/image/content/SecondDarkness/PZO9016-DrowFleshmelt.jpg
They struck quickly, smashing into the prisoners before they even knew what happened. Garl was the only one to hold his footing, taking the charge and locking with the Drider. Everyone else scrambled out of the creatures way, Before jumping back up and closing into melee distance. Dovcil and Slashnos squared off with a pair or driders, both of their enemies holding wooden spears and slashing with their claws. The Dwarf howled and raised his sword, pushing in close to the drider until he could hack with abandon. The lizardfolk grunted and blocked the driders strikes, keeping the blows off of his companion.
One drider hissed as the dwarfs sword crushed its chest, but managed to get one arm into position to send the dwarf sprawling. Slashnos cursed and stepped back towards the dwarf. The driders hissed and waded in once again, their spears whistling in on the Lizardfolk. Slashnos lifted his sword and howled a single word, white light infusing the blade and radiating outward in a aura of warmth. Another word created a cloak of light around his chest, and with that he screamed a war chant and charged the two driders.
The driders faltered when faced with the paladins holy might, but stood their ground and stabbed with their spears. The wooden tips burst into flame when they touched the cloak of light, and Slashnos laughed as his sword cleaved 2 of the driders front legs off. Its howled in agony and lashed out with a claw, only to once again be repelled by the cloak. The second drider moved around the lizardfolk, lumbering towards the still dazed Dovcil.
The dwarf shook his head and stood, lifting his sword weakly. The drider rushed him and the dwarf cried an oath as his arm moved to slow to deflect it. The blow landed and he went flying once again, unconscious. Slashnos cursed and jumped back from his own drider to help the fallen dwarf. He slashed the Driders back and interposed himself between it and Dovcil. Hacking wildly he sent the Drider sprawling to the ground in a bloody heap.
The lizardfolk allowed himself a small smile before turning back to the 1st drider. He slashed at it, and it blocked with its broken spear before raising one of its legs and slamming the lizardfolk. He grunted and fell, and knew the battle was over when he saw the driders claws following after him.
The rest of the party managed to mop up the remaining Driders, but Slashnos was already dead. They had no choice but to march on

End of Night 2:
The halls echoed once again with strange noises. And a hacking cough and wheezing sounds joined it. Towards the middle of the night everyone heard a meaty thwack of something slamming someones head. In the morning Dovcil was shaken awoken, his head blue with bruises.
ready to move on the party marched once again towards what they hoped was freedom.
Punikit scratched his head as the group left "hey, I just thought of something."
Roger grimace and sighed "what?"
"where are we going? Do we even have a direction?"
Garl grumbled "Up. We are going up. That's as specific as we can be at this point."
"its just it seems like we know where we are going. We always know which way to turn, and we never have to talk about it." At the kobolds words the party all looked at one another, confused, and a bit scared.

There have been no mafia kills for two nights, and we know there are mafia kills because there is a doctor. During those two nights, you have been out of commission. Therefore it is logical to assume, especially on the first night, that there is a direct relationship between my roleblocking you and the lack of a kill.

Actually you are wrong. Never make assumptions.
Even then, the mafia might even have other abilities such as conversion.
I know from facts that I am not mafia, and you are roleblocker and claimed to roleblock me. Also from facts, I am Docvil as even mentioned in the write-up, and you are claiming Garl.
You are being narrowminded. It was bad enough I had to even role reveal who I was, now you having forcing me in hoping you are lynched, so I could have a chance at dealing with the mafia.
There is also how CDF has done his previous games, with roles, etc. He has had mafia investigators, mafia doctors, mafia convertors, pro-town vigilentes, two town factions, etc. So you are getting stuck in the pretext of a typical model which is blinding you.
There are 7 people in this game - there is no conversion mechanic.

Day 3 end:
Friction was starting to form In the group, and the hatred between Dovcil and Garl came to a head when the group stopped for a moment to get its bearings.
The dwarf rubbed his temples, the huge bruise on his head making him view the Minotaur with rage and hate in his eyes. For Garls part the dwarfs mannerisms infuriated him.
Dovcil drew his blade and stepped forward “alright you cow, let’s do this. I know you are the one who threw the rock at my head, and I know you pinned me to the ground the night before that. I am done dealing with. I am leaving your hide on the ground when we leave here.”
The rest of the party looked at the dwarf shocked, but Garl simply smiled and hefted his club. He sent it in a quick twirl and slammed it on the ground, the sound reverberating through the tunnels. “Alright midget. Let us fight then.”
Roger Cursed “idiots. Come on you two, lets make sure something doesn’t kill us while these two bash each other around.” The Goblin and Kobold Nodded, edging away from the fight now starting in the tunnel.
Dovcil yelled and charged, his sword raised to block the Minotaurs club. Its descended and Dovcil Grunted as the full force of the Minotaurs arm fell on him. The dwarf rolled to the side, his body jarred from the blow, and Garl followed. Docvil dodge the Minotaurs blows, but was unable to launch his own strikes in his desperate wiggling about. He grimaced as he realized the Minotaur had the upper hand. But then Dovcil smiled and dived forward in a roll towards the Minotaur. The club fell and Garl cursed as the dwarf extended his blade at the end of the roll, the blade hitting Garls hamstring and causing the minotaur to tumble.
Garl kneeled, his leg badly hurt. Dovcil grinned and started laughing manically. “Stupid cow! I am going to finish you and everyone else down here!” His sword lunged in and roger shook his head from the shadows
“Nine hells is that dwarf insane.” He shook his head and continued watching the fight.
Garl gritted his teeth and threw the club in the path of the sword, The blade bit into the wood, but was deflected harmlessly. Taking a step back Dovcil put on another wide grin before launching a overhand blow at the Minotaurs head. Now it was Garl on the defensive, and he knew he was in trouble.
Dovcil launched blow after blow in a blood lust. Garl parried each, and grasped blindly at the ground with his free hand, catching a hold of some rocks and gravel. When Dovcil lurched in close for another blow Garl threw the stones at his face, sending the Dwarf sputtering and cursing backwards. Lunging forward Garl launched a blow overhand with all his strength, catching Dovcil in the skull and killing him instantly.
The dwarf crumpled to the ground, and garl breathed heavily “Its over all of you. We should leave before some hunter finds us.”

I think I figured this game out:
2 killers in a 7 man game would be horrendously overpowered. On another note, as the evil person in CDF's last game, I only had one kill for the entire game and an extra vote once guy for an ally. The Illithids have one kill, since they want to avoid direct conflict. They are trying to turn us against each other without having to get their hands dirty.
If you roleblocked me, it wouldn't have made any difference in the game, seeing that I have no ability outside of voting for one person during the day.

- During his post against Beskar - he actually setup Double A. DIY claimed that if Beskar was innocent, Double A would be the next suspect. Why wouldn't I be the next suspect?
- Again, a skeptic could view this as a way to cement his road to the finish line.
- Of course, I was also initially more suspicious of Double A than DIY, because he has been acting scummy all game. However, last night I roleblocked him and the coughing didn't stop. Death is yonder
07-03-2010, 15:18
- Initially, he refused to vote for Beskar, "refusing to put away the possibly there wasn't a killer".
In the past, I came to a CDf game with quite a few preconceptions, I was horribly wrong. At the planning phase, CDf declared he wanted to change his style of games and hosting, if you noticed what I wrote, I refused to possibly commit to the same mistake and hence I did not rule out that possibility, as the game story starter showed the illithid baddies as mind controllers, rather than direct killers.
I'm trying to learn from my mistakes, which human doesn't?
However, later on he had no problem voting for Beskar - when I was in danger of dying.
You ignore the fact that you publicly stated that Beskar was role blocked for two nights in a row and two nights in a row no kills occurred.
I gave Beskar a pass the first day incident where you claimed because there was a possibility of a coincidence or something. After two nights of no kills with claimed successive role blocks, are you saying that my vote and change in stance is still unjustified?
DIY WANTED to prolong Pinman vs Beskar Round 2, but didn't want to let Beskar run loose - and potentially kill him.
Apologies, but I don't see how this refers to me being scum, because Beskar was the serial killer, even in a large game Serial Killers are largely solo players, not team players.
Right here, you are also ignoring the fact that I wanted to give Beskar one chance, therefore I voted someone other than Beskar. You don't give people chances by lynching them Pinman.
I understand you are referring to the fact that Beskar claimed vigilante and hence you state that I would be afraid if he were let loose.
If that follows, wouldn't I have voted him dead the first time round Pinman? Your logic doesn't follow. I gave Beskar a chance because well, its sort of meta-gaming but I tend to trust him a bit more. Its an inescapable situation because in a situation choosing between someone you know better than another, you are inclined to trust the fellow you know well.
- During his post against Beskar - he actually setup Double A. DIY claimed that if Beskar was innocent, Double A would be the next suspect. Why wouldn't I be the next suspect?
Double A's behavior seemed off from his normal, askew even, but the fact remained (in public too! Thanks to your own claim which you seem to be conveniently ignoring as the basis of my decisions) that Beskar was apparently role blocked for twice in a row, and no kills occurred. Here, my one chance expired.
You're not being fair Pinman. If I didn't vote to lynch Beskar, you would have accused me of trying to spare my possible scum buddy as the opinion was that the possible kill was impeded by yourself.
- Again, a skeptic could view this as a way to cement his road to the finish line.
Its all a matter of opinion. Apologies, but you're sounding like this skeptic.
- Of course, I was also initially more suspicious of Double A than DIY, because he has been acting scummy all game.
Yet you question why I said that if Beskar (top suspect due to roleblock = no kills) was not the guilty (referring to primary threat), then Double A would be next to go?
However, last night I roleblocked him and the coughing didn't stop.
I'm going to go out of a limb and assume that by coughing, you are referring to conversions. On a purely uninformed note, coughing contains the connotation to me that suggests a build up/not instantaneous.
I find it a real possibility that since Beskar had role information about conversions and the what not, I doubt that conversions in a 7 man game would be instantaneous, that would be extremely unfair. If you don't understand what I'm saying, basically I'm suggesting that Double A was possibly infected the night before, therefore the coughing didn't stop.
On the other hand, I don't have access to this information, so all I'm trying to say here is that you may not necessarily be correct that since you role blocked Double A and the coughing didn't stop, therefore he isn't the baddie you are looking for.
I'm going to make the wild assumption that it means Double A isn't doing the remaining bad thing - whatever that is.
That's entirely your prerogative, but I'm going to stay my vote to Double A, because he is, and still remains, the most scummy individual alive in my opinion (because I know I'm innocent, so who does that leave?).
In Conclusion:
Cool, the town's boned if there's more than one Illithid.
Since john is inactive everywhere (or so it would seem), and Cent is acting inactive too... and Pinman acts like this in EVERY game...
My money is on DIY, and I don't even want to think about it if there's 2 mafia.
Pinman, are you telling me posts like this aren't scummy?
Am I wrong to act on my suspicions?
If this isn't scummy that I will quote Sasaki commenting on Flax with the name changed.
"Double A needs to die on principle, no townie should even be that scummy".
I'm acting on probability. If Centurion is less scummy than Double A, and Pinman is also less scummy than Double A, and I know I am innocent, who do you want me to vote.
Honestly Pinman, do you expect me to vote myself? :stare:
I admit I have been unclear on some things that I should have stated such as if Beskar wasn't "guilty" which he was not (serial killers typically =/= main threat) then Double A would be next, but I'm just not seeing the majority of your case on me. Arguably I'm being biased but I know my own role.

The last host update has him as alive and lynched, easy mistake to make. :3
:curtain:
:sweatdrop:
The change in stance is significant in that during the second round of voting - it was Beskar vs. Khazzar, whereas in the third round, it was me vs. Beskar. It would be alright for the Illithid to see Beskar survive round two with me still alive, as he would continue to be roleblocked. However, during round three, the Illithid couldn't risk me dying -- thereby removing the roleblock on Beskar. This would expose the illithid to the danger of being murdered.
Obviously the case isn't foolproof -- this is mafia after all. However, I have to make judgements based on the evidence I have, which suggests that my roleblock on Double A was ineffective in stopping the 'bad guy stuff'. This leaves you and cent, and this is better than a coin toss - isn't it?

The only reason it was Beskar vs Khazaar and not Beskar vs Pinman in the second round of voting, was because that to accuse you, would only affirm your case on Beskar.
Furthermore, I have already stated.
My motivation for letting Beskar survive the first round in which he was roleblocked, was that he claimed pro-town power role, therefore I gave him a one round chance, due to possible coincidence. This lead to me choosing Khazaar, putting him tied for the lead, because unlike Beskar, he didn't claim or anything once shoved to the front.
Additionally, my intentions were to give Beskar a chance to prove himself (If explicit scum activity occurred again despite roleblock). Wouldn't it logically follow that I would let Beskar live on a single chance, that once exhausted, would mean my vote for his death?
Evidently, I'm not going to be able to convince you here, because we have one scenario leading to varying possibilities, and we have chosen differing views. So I will leave this matter as it is.
Think about my role, why would the mafia want me alive if he can convert, then decide to want me dead afterwards.

End of Day 4:
The remains of the party walked down the hallways slowly, trying to remain quiet. The air was starting to get less oppressive, and more than once Punikit had commented that they were getting much closer to the surface. The uneasy truce between them all was starting to break. Gringar was a bit back from the rest, and he was quietly whispering to himself. Garl looked at him warily. The minotaur stopped in his tracks and turned about, facing the rest of the party.
"What is this? Whats wrong with the Goblin!" He said fiercely. Roger and Punikit looked back to find Gringer still walking forward, apparently not paying attention to the Minotaurs question. The Kobold shrugged "The torture took him harder than most, he tends to do this lot. No harm to it, he just retreats into himself."
Garl frowned "I don't trust it. What if he is a spy from the Illithids? He can't stay here, too risky."
Roger scoffed "you might as well kill him now then, there is no way he will survive on his own with his mind wandering like this." Punikit nodded shakily. Garl shrugged and hefted his club
"if you both insist." The club smashed down on the Gobllin, Shattering his skull and causing Roger and Punikit to jump backwards.
"what in the nine hells was that for?" roger screamed.
"you said to kill him now. So I did."
Roger sighed and checked his sword belt "looks like the Goblins not the only crazy one here. Lets get out of here. I am done dealing with you crazy's."

Hmm, my hunch was wrong.
Nicely done Cent, laying low the whole game while the high profile fellows occupied the spotlight, a convenient target other than yourself every single day
No doubt Pinman is going to block me and then vote to lynch me since he considers me scummier than you :beam:
Also, that's like what, 3 random.org'd lynches already? :laugh4:
Cent would be dead if it wasnt for Pinman (and the slight not unvoting accident).

The party awakened and started moving forward once again, the last three of them seeing far in front of them a light. They were almost free. Roger had awokened with a face that looked like he had been beaten half to death, and he moaned and groaned at every opportunity.

Easy ride to the finish for you heh, lets get this done and over with CDf, no way Cent's going to vote himself and no way Pinman is going to budge
Interesting if Pinman is the mafia though, he practically gained free credibility by showing that he could roleblock but in a previous CDf game, the mafia had that ability too.

END:
The exit was right there.... He was so close...... But Roger had little chanced to get to freedom. Garl stood before him, club lifted and a grin on his face
"Coughing stopped last night Human. What do you know about that?" He slammed the club in a downward swipe, and Roger skittered to the side. "Crazy cow!" Roger yelled as he leapt forward with his sword. The Minotaur grunted as the blade hit his side, but lashed at roger with his elbow, sending hims sprawling backwards without a weapon. Garl rushed forward with him and lifted the Human by the throat and pinned him against the tunnel wall. The last thing Roger saw was the light of day, just out of reach.
You have Lynched Roger Conrad (Death is Yonder), Infected Human.
Punikit shook his head and bolted from the tunnel while the Minotaur was strangling the Human. Now he was on the surface he couldn't care less what happened to that mountain of fat. The Kobold Smiled, He was free.
Garl dropped Rogers corpse and walked out of the tunnel, finally free to find a new home.

Mistledown
You are…..
Mistledown, The Stoic Nymph
Alignment: Chaotic Good/ Doctor Role
Level: 6 racial levels (Nymph), 5th lvl sorceress
A nymph who was forcibly captured from her forest by the Illithids, Her beauty scarred and disfigured by her torture she just wants to leave this place and never return. She would love for the rest of the group to come with her, and even after all she has been through she still has a pure heart, masked beneath a painfully stoic exterior. She has some healing abilities she is willing to put to good use in aiding the party of prisoners, and she can heal even what would appear to be a mortally fatal wound. Other than that she relies on her rudimentary knowledge of combat magic to survive in pitched combat.
Abilities:
Healing talent: each night phase you can choose to keep an eye on one person. As a nymph you do not require much sleep, and if your target is attacked you will be on hand to heal the wounds they have suffered. As long as you reach them in time you can save them from almost certain death. (Protection)
Victory Conditions: 1 gets you a minor victory, 2 major
1. Survive through this experience
2. Make sure that all antitown roles are eliminated.
Garl
You are…..
Garl axing, Minotaur
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral/ Roleblocker
Level: 6 racial levels (minotaur), 5th lvl Fighter
A Minotaur who has spent the last 10 years tortured almost to death repeatedly, he just wants to get out of this mess and find a home. He is more than willing to work with these other prisoners if it will get him out of here alive, but he is NOT willing to get backstabbed. Huge and strong he took only a shield from the Thralls. With that and a large club made from the hut he is about as well armed as he normally has been over the years. Skilled in combat and more than willing to use his superior strength to smash any enemy he comes across.
Abilities:
Baby sitting: each night you can choose 1 person to watch over, stopping them from performing any of the actions they might have wanted to do during the phase. You can imagine how a Minotaur might accomplish that. (Roleblock)
Victory Conditions: 1 gets you a minor victory, 2 major
1. Survive through this experience
2. Make sure that all antitown roles are eliminated.
Punikit
You are…..
Punikit Depun, Kobold Scout
Alignment: Neutral/ Neutral role
Level: 7th lvl Scout, 4th lvl rogue
A Kobold fighter, you were on your way to becoming the chief of your tribe when you were exiled by the elders and shamans. Left in the tunnels you wandered for a long time, sneaking and slinking your way from danger, before you were caught by the Ilithids. Now free, you want to leave and get back to your wanderings. This group of other prisoners is convenient for your needs, but you are more than willing to kill every one of them if you had need of it. Your only concern is your own life, the others mean nothing to you. If some of them are trying to kill you, you just need to strike first. But as a Kobold your strong point is subtlety, not brute force.
Abilities:
Subtlety: During each day phase you can quietly tip the balance of a battle to make sure the prisoner you want dead is the one who falls before enemy blades (Vote change. Each day you can change one persons vote to another person.)
Victory Conditions: 1 gets you a major victory
1. Survive through this experience
Roger
You are…..
Roger Conrad
Alignment: Chaotic Evil/ Infected
Level: 10th lvl rogue
The watch made a big mistake when they exiled you into Undermountain. When you were captured by the ilithids your hatred for the city grew until the mindflayers finally offered you a choice. The offered to create a plague, place it inside of you to grow, and then let you go to release the plague onto the unsuspecting city. In your rage and hate, you accepted. You did not expect this kind of escape however, more like a teleport right back into the city. But hey, one cannot ever anticipate the movements of the Mind flayers. Now you just need to reach the city, and as soon as the plague develops BAM the city is engulfed in pestilence.
Abilities:
-
Victory Conditions: 1 gets you a minor victory, 2 a major victory
1. Survive the game so you can reach Waterdeep and spread your plague
Dovcil
You are…..
Dovcil McNeill, Dwarven Hero
Alignment: Chaotic Evil/ Serial killer
Level: 13th lvl Fighter
A Defeated soul who wishes only to find a place to die. A happy mask on the surface, he tries to mask his inner hate with the easygoing and snarky manner that most dwarves have, all hiding a heart as cold and black as Obsidian. He has no purpose other than making sure no one escapes this trip alive. The Ilithids knew Dovcils madness soon after his capture. He could not be controlled by their mental magic due to its effects. Before he was captured Dovcil wandered Undermountain killing anything that crossed his path, now he will do the same once again.
Abilities:
Kill: each night you can kill one person.
Victory Conditions: 1 gets you a major victory
1. Everyone must die.
Slashnos
You are…..
Slashnos, Lizardfolk Paladin
Alignment: Neutral Good
Level: 9th lvl Paladin/ 2nd lvl Cleric
A chosen of his races god, he was taken due to his unusual strength in divine magic. His faith sustained him however, leaving his body a mass of mostly healed scars where the Mindflayers tested his innate healing talent. Pious in his races strange ways, he above all wants to get to his tribe and back to his family. You have many divine abilities, healing chief among them.
Abilities:
-
Victory Conditions: 1 gets you a minor victory, 2 gets you a major victory
1. Survive through this ordeal to get home
2. Eliminate all anti town roles
Gringar
You are…..
Gringar, Goblin chief
Alignment: Neutral
Level: 9th lvl fighter
A powerful chief, a coup left him alone in undermountain, with no help and no supplies. He was easy prey for the Illithid. A experiment due to his greater strength then most of his kin, he managed to hold a tenuous grasp on his sanity, more so than most taken by the monsters. A erratic twitch and a penchant for laughing is the physical effect of his trauma, and he wants to get out of this nightmare, now.
Abilities:
-
Victory Conditions: 1 gets you a minor victory, 2 gets you a major victory
1. Survive through this ordeal to get home
2. Eliminate all anti town roles

I wonder why not more people followed pinmans roleclaim and lynch of Beskar. Was there bad blood? Normally you follow a claim to see if it holds any truth...
That was a nice game CDF :)
Just to clarify, the reason I roleblocked Beskar was the suspicious "unvote" thing. It made sense to me at the time, but I'm pretty sure it was just luck, and Beskar didn't delibretely target JHT.
As for Beskar and DIY - thanks for showing me how to properly resist an accusation. So far I'm 0/2 on that here.:laugh4:

Hmm, personally, I didn't know I was anti-town per se for an extended period of time.
It was only recently that I clarified with CDf if I was a mafia role. His reply was that I am not the major threat, but I needed to be eliminated for the town to attain a major victory, therefore I assumed that Cent was the main mafia
My final gambit on Pinman was that if Cent was truly the final mafia as I suspected, he would rather have changed to Pinman, on an assumption that the role blocker was a bigger threat than a possible vanilla town.
Additionally:
Thanks CDf for the game  Always a pleasure mate.
Good call by the others too, but poor lynch choices on my part I think, left me as the clear cut lynch choice for the final phase, although if Beskar thinned out the ranks a little my job would have been easier.
I'd also like to note, that once again, the curse of CDf endures :clown:
The anti-town have thus far not succeeded in their nefarious schemes yet :laugh4:
