View Full Version : MOD PROBLEMS
K, here it goes...first of all, I am not very computer literate, in fact, I am crap at it. Problem is, I WANT to play the Swiss...so, what I have done is, tried to change some in the campmap/startpos/ealry (that is what I have been told to do), I made Switzerland to be a Major nation (and got rid of Italy mmuuuahahhahahaha) and did all the heirs thing and so on...
Now, problem is...I can't even play the early age anymore...it's disappeared from the menu http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif so, that's where I am at the moment...
Need HELP urgently...am already flapping here...lol Pleeeease please pretty please
It would really hellp if anyone has made a complete list of what to do...
And by the way...I have the German version...probably makes a difference too...all the mods are in English though

Hmmm, well I see you got quite some problems. Well, the only thing I can say without asking for more information is that you have a look at Giskard's FAQ. You can find it at:
http://www.totalwar.org/Downloa...._V1.zip (http://www.totalwar.org/Downloads/faqs/mtw/Giskard_mtw-camp-tutorial_V1.zip)
One tip I can give you though, things are not always as straight forward as they seem to be. Be very carefull with your changes and don't try to modify too much at the same time. Otherwise it will leave you clueless.
Good luck.

You made a typo in the Campaign file. I just love how this game corrects you when you screw it up. I can tell you of countles days of misery doing as you did but wont. Make sure to backup your entire Game folder when moding. Try again with a fresh copy of the Early campaign file. You is learning just as I....
Thanks for the reply...I have heard though in the other forums that it wasn't possible to play the Swiss in the early age...don't know if that is true...but Switzerland was only really formed in 1291 (Confederatio Helvetica) so it is possible that one just can't play it then...wouldn't have thought so though...nm...although I checked the file countless times and could not see a typo...I might have gone wrong somewhere...lol. Will try again sometimes...but have lost my patience for now...lol.
Thanks again though...cheery

Quid,
It's not always just a case of typo's. There are many keywords/parameters that are directly related to other keywords/parameters. Cultures and religions immediately spring to mind - there are also MANY other 'traps' that are both sprung and readily awaiting the unsuspecting modder ... often in unobvious locations.
For example, if you have 2 adjacent provinces and you specify (in SetAttributes::) region A to be HILLY and region B to be MOUNTAIN you have to ensure that the 2 corressponding SetBorderInfo:: keywords match these characteristics (ie: 'A,B' should have a HLL2MTN parameter and 'B,A' should have the opposite - MTN2HLL).
I'm only now appreciating just how closely some Script parameters are related to the usable/available maps defined in the various maps folders.
There are many such requirements to be aware of.
Really, there are so many 'hidden traps' just waiting to get you when you start changing Scripts (especially new Scripts for new Campaign maps), it's worse than playing Tomb Raider at times

QUID,
You can play the Swiss in the Early period. The majority of the stuff that is needed to make them active is already in there. The only real things that you have to do are create a SetActiveFaction line for the Swiss be sure to give them starting funds in that section, add heirs, and give them starting positions ( I usually give them Switzerland and Tyrolia) I know my instructions are kind of cryptic but I am at work http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif and don't remember all of the lines that are needed. If you just deleted the Italians out, that is probably where the problem is coming in. I tried doing that as well and it took forever to figure out what I did. I do now have the Swiss Burgundians and Russians in an early game.
Quid,
If the your campaign doesn't show up, then you have an error in it. Mostly a misspelling or a tab space error. The easiest way of troubleshooting this is to take a clean campaign file then add a line then run MTW to see if it shows up (line by line). This is time consuming, but you will find your error.
