View Full Version : How old can people get?

I know the regular death age is somewhere in the 60's or 70's but check out what my guy got to: http://picasaweb.google.com/105657784444961300161/BloggerPictures?authkey=Gv1sRgCJnFjMiTlMy41QE#5486842033195691970

P.S. I didn't tamper with any age mechanism or anything like that he just got to that age. He was faction heir and then when he became leader he died on that same turn...:dizzy2:

That's quite remarkable both for attributes and age. The oldest family member I can recall in my own campaigns was around 85. I've had diplomats and spies get to around 80. 101 is amazing, as is 10* across the board for leadership/management/influence. I've had 10's in 2 of the three on occasion, but never all 3.

Strange. I just kept taking pictures starting around 94 so I have like 7 more pictures of the same guy.:laugh4:

yea the attributes was a result of me sending him out constantly, management idk how, and influence was kinda just rewards from senate offices, other traits, etc. Weird thing is all my spies and diplomats stayed till around 50 :/

Woah, that's a reliable leader for ya! Oldest commander that I've stumbled upon was my 80-year old faction leader in my last Julii-campaign. Think I've seen a thread like this before, and if I remember it right the deathroll each turn (which every character at the age of 60+ gets) is stopped at age 100 since the game considers them newborn as far as age is concerned. Supposedly that means you'll get new deathrolls at age 160-199 though :inquisitive:

Thanks for sharing anyway, would be nice if you let us know just how old that guy gets!

Kind regards

Bellicin

I think it was like a glitch or something because as I said he died as soon as he was elected faction leader. I would've taken a picture of that but my fingers reflexed like they did and deleted the "Faction Leader Dead" message. I'm so ashamed. T.T

In one of my very first games playing the Julii, my faction leader Lucius Julii, reached 120. I've read posts on the guild here that several players have actually had faction members reach this age. To be sure, it doesn't happen often. As you have noticed, there is a trigger built into the RTW game logic where the faction member is tested after he reaches age 60 to see if he dies of old age, or 'natural causes' as the game puts it. I believe Aesculapius (sp) in his write-up on governors talks about this subject. His write-up is very good. You might want to check it out in any case.

Yes that thread was helpful, however, I found it to be something that described generals "in general." Not something about how old they can get. I appreciate the recommendation though.

AFAIK after 60 it's a test each turn, with a progressively lower chance of success the older the char gets. You got the equivalent of 20 sucessful Assassinations at 20 to 5% sucess rate.

The oldest is 127 years old, after that the age rolls over to 0.

In my greeks campaign, I have 112 years old general. That's when I finish the campaign ( rules all the world), then I can't see when can he die :)

Something kinda like that happened for me- I was playing the Brutii and my faction leader died. My new faction leader died on the same turn. :-P

I had a guy who lasted something like 180 years (Im not exactly sure, considering the rollback)
He was doing great, but the unexpected death of my leader made him my heir. The shock must have been too great for him, because he died.

Heh, interesting thread, I think I had a diplomat turn 93 once, but that's about it.

All these exceptionally old leaders reminds me of the mythical Swedish and Danish viking king called Harald Hildetand whom myth says that when he had turned a hundred and fifty and started having trouble walking, that his friends sought to drown him when he was taking a bath by piling wood and stones atop the bathtub he was in.
Taking the hint that he had ruled long enough (130 years or so) he asked them to stop and said that he wanted to die like a king (in battle), so he sent forth his wish to the king of Norway and both mustered their forces for seven years! Before meeting up on the field with hosts containing numerous heroes on either side. Apparently after seeing all the glorious deeds by the heroes of both his own and the Norwegian king's army Harald decides to join in and stands on his knees in his chariot and with a sword in either hand proceeds to cut a bloody path. Then his own chancellor (who's aparently on the chariot as well) decides that he's gathered enough glory and hits him over the head with a club.

I've had an 83yr old faction leader die in the Siege of Rome. I don't recall anything older than that (and only then because it was the Siege of Rome to win the campaign as the Brutii)

I was just looking at the screen pic that Tabuu supplied when he started this thread almost 8 months ago. That's an impressive gladiator army he has with his legendary general.

Indeed! I like the empire Pontus seems to have built for themselves as well, quite a feat to demolish Egypt like that, they are usually the power in the east.

Heh, thanks. History is full of weird stories like that. I'm sure there must be more legendary old rulers mentioned.

As for old and weird I got a bit surprised when my faction announcements said I had a couple of people getting married, normaly I don't care, but this time I clicked and found that one of the grooms was an old geezer. I had to go back and see why he was getting married and found that he wasn't, but apparently he had a lot of adoptive kids, but no wife. I was a little sad to see that she was 39, would ahve been more fun if he'd married someone younger than his kids :P

I think the oldest i've ever had was a Roman faction leader at 95 if memory serves. However, i saw some other people posting some character that went well into their 100's, but i can't remember in which RTW version that was (probably well before 1.5).

I think a few of you had generals with old Numenorian blood...any of them named Aragorn?

The age my generals dies seems linked to how good they are...lets say they have my best combo of % reduction on construction and are holding all my construction auxiliaries...death at 60 is guaranteed. Now, if he has -5 to morale and -3 Management, then he will live to 99.

Seriously, I have had a few in the 90s, but I don't pay close attention other than offloading all the good auxilliaries at 59 and then turning them into combat generals until they die.

...you have got generals up to 150 ! that's amazing :D
most of my faction leaders die at around 70, i thought that was quite a good age..... XD

but seriously, the game hasn't made it very realistic for people to live to around 150

in one of my first campaigns with the scipi i had a lady- believe or not she was actually called something along the lines of pennel ( Nicholas flammels- supposed creator of the elixir of life- alleged wife) who was wife to my faction ruler, well he did pretty good getting to about 75 before popping off, but she just kept on going and going and going, she made it to 94! she outlived pretty much the whole first generation :P
