View Full Version : Facebook Connect = Performance Drop in Initial Load

I've noticed a consistent looong delay when initially loading up the forum in my (Firefox) browser now. When I look in the lower left corner of my browser, it says "waiting for k.static.connect.facebook ..." or something like that. This delay did not occur until the Facebook button was added to the main page.
Has anyone else been experiencing this problem?
What benefit does the F connect button at the top of the page offer? Does it add significant value? Do many patrons use it? Do we need it?
I'm not sure what the benefit is, I'm pretty sure I don't need/use it. Others do perhaps. I just block it.

Thanks for the input, Asai Nagamasa-san. You block the image of the button? I suspect it's connecting to the service that is causing my delay, not the loading of the button image, which is rather small. I'll try using an Adblock filter on the actual URL that's showing when it hangs up and see if that solves my problem.
Still interested to know if anyone else is experiencing/has experienced this problem, and if so, how they dealt with it.

I believe it is added by the company that hosts the site. Presumably they are paid by facebook to do so.

Had a vague memory of Tosa saying it was default with the new version.
All it does it add your post to your facebook feed at this point.

Ah yes, now that you mention it guys, I recall seeing Tosa explain this somewhere in the recent past. Thanks.
Apparently it's not causing noticeable delays for anyone else? Oddly, the delay is not happening now. It seems to be intermittent, and I have yet to determine in relation to what. I like mysteries, but not the kind that mess up my computing, gah.

I am getting it as well, but I put up with it for the gooey centre that is the forums.

I don't use it. I want to keep my RL away from my online persona .

But you already revealed you are the King of Swissland, you love Cashews and Milk and you also work as a Barman on your nights off as king.
Hello,
The FB button is part of the vanilla version of this forum software, but it's not enabled by default. When it causes more harm (delay or other) than it causes good, it will be disabled. Simple as that.

Ah, ok TosaInu-san, thank you for your Reply.
I used adblock on the button, the forum now runs far quicker loading times, strangely enough.

Ok thanks. I have been distracted by other things and hadn't addressed this yet because it hasn't been as bad over the last few days. I will block it now. Thanks for posting!
