Right now I'm working on a Klibanophori mod, the Klibanophori is the elite of the elite of the Kataphraktoi, unlike the Kataphraktoi the Klibanophori employs the use of lance, axe and bow and a small shield.

It is also more heavily armoured than any cavalry existing - yes even heavier than the knights in the late period - since this is the case it is therefore much more slower than the Kataphraktoi.

Its compensation is the bow which means it can keep enemies at arm's length, if it is fortunate enough to get close into a melee than its greatest strength lies in its attack where the klibanophori uses an axe as an armour piercing melee weapon.

I have already done the easier detail of the Klib mod such as the crusader prod 11 file stuff , eg increasing the cost of Klib, increasing maintainence cost and buildings required, etc.

The hard part is the animation, I've
seen the Kataphraktoi fire arrows with a bow before and that was thru a mistake I made but since then I haven't been able to figure it out, I would also like help on animating the kataphraktoi using an axe in a melee.

If anyone could help me I would be most appreciative, I'm not after the credit for this so I will acknowledge openly those who contribute to this mod.

This mode is part of a bigger scheme, I'm also working on a mod that focuses on Middle Eastern warfare in the early period, this would entail making Crusades much more menacing towards Islamic towards but also counteracting the Crusade woth aggressively fanatical units. The Klibanophori wil be a new old element in this middle eastern warfare, it will be a while to train these tanks since the requirements are more demanding ofr the power they get. Parts fo the mod have been borrowed from other mods and they will duely credited for their excellent work.

Interesting, since I have already added everything you want to the unit except the bow in my mod. The problem would be finding a suitable model in the Textures/Men folder. You probably won't be able to find a model with all the other features you want coupled with bow-firing animation. The unit will still be able to fire a bow regardless of the model, and you will see the arrows appear, but you may not have the draw-and-release animation.

Post in the 1.4 thread with what you find out. I am interested to hear if the animation is present or not in all the models, if the unit fires a bow.

Surprisingly Wes the Kataphraktoi can now use a bow and fire

What I did was make a few changes in the crusader prod 11 file and identified the projectile type for the unit, I gave it a short bow (SBOW) then I gave the unit a 28 arrow ammo. You already know this anyway.

The Kats can fire a bow but the remaining part is the animation, to make it work I took the shooting stand action for a horse archer from the action page file txt (horsearcher.txt)and placed it in the Kataphraktoi's action page file txt(kataphraktoi.txt).

IT WORKS

Maybe the riders of their mounts are generic units???

Anyway I added a small shield to the kat which you did but I didn't use your file though I did copy your example and used a spanish jinette's small shield for the Kat.

I tried to add an axe but not successful, the kat did however do melee fighting without a lance and used its bare fists anyway I changed it back to a lance and made it longer.

So now it has a lance and bow, is it possible to give a third weapon???? I tried playing around with the "fight" animation parameter with a mamluk cavalry.
