Several ads at the Org are very intrusive, and according to McAfee, are unsafe. I realize that we need sponsors to stay afloat, but we shouldn't have ones that may give our members viruses.

I use IE. I don't see why you say that McAfee sucks, I prefer it to Norton. What does that have to do with anything though?

That's your problem right there, you are using IE.

Using IE on the internet is like being a child who has never encounted any illnesses before as they spent their life in a bubble being sent to a plague clinic.

Yes, well I have tried Firefox before, and it ran like garbage. Considering that 90% of people use IE, shouldn't we avoid sponsors who have virus ridden ads instead of just telling people to get over it?

A lot of people listen to bubblegum pop music, but that doesn't make it any good. ~;)

If I understand correctly, the Org does not select sponsors, the host (AtomicGamer?) does. This is the price for hosting us. Since they don't exactly do the best job vetting the ads, you should move to a more secure browser.

That's like comparing rubbish to dog poop. AVG or Avira are a lot more preferable, whilst ThreatFire and Spybot are absolute musts regardless of the antivirus you use.

Use Chrome then  Firefox does take a looong time to boot up, but once it's warmed up, it doesn't run any slower than IE. Thing is, IE runs like garbage without you knowing it.

Considering that 90% of people use IE,
IIRC globally it's only 66% now (And I'm guessing that the majority of people who use the .Org do not use IE), and it's falling fast.

Well, we should do that too. But FF and Chrome keep away the worst ones.

We've had reports of bad ads in the past, each time we try our best to investigate what's up and put a stop to them.

If you come across a bad ad or something that seems suspicious, please send a PM to Tosa with as much info (the type of ad, what it was advertising, the 'object' that caused your alarms to go off, all these things help) as you can.

I think its even a little below that.

FF recently became the largest market share if you count each IE version as its own browser, something like 30%. Globally, its 25-27%. Chrome is coming third.

IE6 still makes up half of IE's share. Silly people.

SpyBot SD Resident works like a Charm for me, and Kapersky Anti-Virus is Pretty good ( it seems )
I use Firefox, because it runs pretty quick, annoyingly there are some really good Internet Browsers, I just haven't heard about them, could anyone steer me
in the right direction?

My favorite is Opera. I haven't used it since my reformat however...maybe I should start again. (Opera is 100000 million times better than FF BTW. ~;))

I use Firefox with Adblock Plus. As such almost no pages I visit have adverts on them. It also helps speed things up slightly as often I want to read the data-light text, but end up downloading the flashy junk at the edges.

speaking of ads. your forums appear to be offering very cheap electronics. maybe wake the mods up and delete some rubbish.

www.opera.com

I don't even notice most of the ads, but I often wonder whether the last object that always takes so long to load compared to the rest of the page has something to do with ads.

Google Chrome is the best browser out there.
