Giskard,

Unfortunately I have to reply to you via this new thread because the moderators of "The Org" have chosen to LOCK the original thread ("Click Team Installers and Patchers - Not SPAM Please pin this"), thereby preventing any further comments/discussion in respect of that thread.

Whilst locking a thread may be convenient in respect of a final conclusion to such a thread, locking a thread to prevent further discussion/comment would appear to be somewhat suspicious, IMHO.

Anyways -

Quote[/b] ]As far as the little advert goes, its just an extra next with the clickteam logo on the final page above the finished button. To me thats a fair exchange considering they allow me to use their software for free.

Fine, but that does'nt make it Freeware. Anything that advertises whenever you use it is NOT Freeware. If you require the Registered version of this software you must pay for it. If you require the Professional version you must pay even more for it.

Quote[/b] ] As for spam, spam either sells something or offers something people dont want. Im not selling anything because its not mine to sell but i am offering mod makers in this forum a link to a program I found handy as a fellow mod maker. A program that can potentially make all their mods look professionally done with minimal effort and avoid having to answer a lot of emails resulting from installation problems.

Fine, but considering you hav'nt been present in these forums for the last 3 months and then you suddenly reappear, advertise a program, insist its not spam and request this advertisement to be stickied is, IMHO, rather curious to say the least.

Quote[/b] ]I am pretty much doing exactly what one kind person did when they postedthe ultimatepaint link to help me with my mods. Though I cannot quite remember who that was.
Cough Cough.

Ultimate Paint is NOT Freeware and does'nt pretend to be. It is a TRIAL VERSION of software that you will have to pay for if you you wished to continue using it.

When I advised you about Ultimate Paint it was in response to problems you were having with LBM files. It was certainly not soliciting a product. It was also NOT via a seperate thread, it did NOT request stickying and did NOT go to great lengths to point out it was not spam.

Welly.

I locked the thread for the reason I stated.
I did so In the hope we could remove all the
unsavoury bits and move on http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I admit it looked suspicious but I felt
I had to draw the line somewhere.
Due to the late hour and the manner in which
the last post was submitted I took the decision
alone and without prejudice http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif

I will leave this thread open for a while if either
of you feel you NEED to add something.

But I would be greatful if you both could see fit
not to continue in this manner in this forum.

The sticky will remain locked until all non
relevent posts are removed.

I will be quite happy to arrange this quite promtly

LK,

Your response has puzzled me even further.

Precisely which "unsavoury bits" are you refering to?

Fair enough.

I interpret this as meaning your not interested in any post that may refer to spam issues. Whilst this is a modding forum I can half understand that. However, considering The Orgs policy on spam I fail to see why you appear to be reluctant to have people raising questions about such issues.

Quote[/b] ] But I would be greatful if you both could see fit

Exactly what "manner" are you refering to? I suggest you reread the thread and then advise me as to exactly what you find so objectionable. Obviously, this would be benefial to not only myself but also to others who may also inadvertently adapt a "manner" that is not "fit" for "this forum".

Please consider what I'm saying here LK, as some of your own post's could well be interpreted (by people who don't know you http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif ) to be far more "unfit" for this forum than any comment in that stickied thread.

Now you've really puzzled me. You intend removing "non-relevent posts" from that thread? Just what do you consider to be a non-relevant post?

For the benefit of those who may read this thread and ar'nt aware of it, this is "The Orgs" policy on spam -

"Posts containing "spam", such as advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations.
Recommending a game you in your opinion like is not wrong, as long as you are not trying to sell it. User accounts created exclusively for the purpose of posting inconsequential advertisements will be unceremoniously banned."

If anyone chooses to do so, may I suggest the following -

a) have a read of the stickied thread
b) note the web site 'advertisements' on some posts
c) check out "Click Teams" site
d) consider the differences between the 3 versions offered at that site
e) reread "The Orgs" policy on spam
f) form your own conclusion

Whilst I accept the poster may well be a "friend of The Org" I would hate to think that the Org's policies are 'relaxed' somewhat for such friends.

Welly

(BTW: I do hope you don't remove this post as being non-relevant)

This thread seems a more relevent place to have it.

BTW I haven't removed anything that's up to you.

Not there please, is all I'm asking.

I shall remove any post found objectionable
that I have made even if I do not find justification.
One need only ask http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I mailed you on this issue yesterday
did you recieve it?As I did have difficulties
getting through to all parties involved

The fact that we are having this disscusion
just goes to show I do not have an agenda
on what is spoken about only where it
is spoken about.I have a soloution if
only I had the time to put it accross
and get a response.
Before the, I said, you said, she said, wee all said.
Then I feel we may have less misunderstanding.

I know your readmes better than I know
the forum rules, so give me a brake http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

guys,
the clickteam software is usefull and costs nothing for us to use,
the commercial versions allow companies to replace the clickteam logo's with their own,

My humble opinion is we need not just one post per software item, but a comprehensive list of all software modders may find usefull, be it freeware, shareware, trialware, adware or whatever,
that list will be stickied,

Do i have any volunteers to write the list with possibly a small review on the software?

items need to be included >> ultimate paint, clickteam, patchwise, bif/buf reader, mspaint, etc etc etc etc....

and with that i'm off to work, cya's

Hey Barocca, That click team install maker (unregistered version) is pretty darn good. The Uninstaller did not work for me and the Installer did not compress like the one you have used here. But its pretty good for those folks who want to make mods easyer to install. I liked the fact that you can appy a custom BMP image to the install process and you can pretty much install your software anywere without errors.

Barocca/LK,

Fine. I understand it's hard work at times attempting to moderate such busy forums.

You also understand that at times it's important to say what's on your mind (be it correct or not).

We all know each other quite well by now and hence you'll also know there was no "un-niceness" (what a shitty word) intended in my comments on that stickied thread. I merely spoke my mind - and you both know by now that is my way of doing things http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

I just don't like any inference that I'm participating in any "bitchy dialog" that is not appropiate to this forum. If I wish to let off steam I use NG's for that

I still think what I think but let's consider this issue closed. It just is'nt important enough. We all have better, more positive contributions, to make.
