View Full Version : What is that Russian word?
What is that Russian word that I always hear people use when they announce something. It sounds something like 'Streechechya'. Anyone know what that is?

Uh are you sure your pronouncing that correctly because I have no idea what your saying......
lol, no, I am not sure that I am pronouncing it correctly. That is what it sounds like to me.
Here, I heard it in these videos among others:

I am not sure if it is even the same word, but it sounds like it to me.

Where in the video? If you can find it spelled it would be much easier. I've never heard my grandmother say anything like steechyna

8-9 seconds into the 2nd clip, he says it.

Ok when I go the library tmmrw ill check it out. My internet at home is down and my phone (which I'm now on) won't play it for some reason
But I doubt ill understand it. My grasp is rudimentary to conversational with a fluent child at best
Could be some ones name. It is being said while introducing a singer.
In English, it could be the guy is saying "It's Beyonce!"

Its very possible.
Vuk is this the only place you've heard this? And what is the member of the bands name.
Then again streechechnya isn't a name I've heard before. Then again it could be garbled, a last name , etc.

No, I have heard it in several other videos that have been taken down. It is not a part of the name of any of the singers either. The singers are Anastasia Prikhodko and Valery Meladze in one video, and Anastasia Prikhodko and Polina Gagarina in the other.

yeah i didnt think so since it isnt a name ive ever heard before.
ill be frank i have no idea what the word means unfortunately. However, from what is said afterwards and based on the surronding events i can only presume it is a greeting of some nature. Think like And welcoming......

Yeah, I figured that it was something like that, but I was not sure. For some reason not knowing what it is has been driving me nuts. :P Too bad that we did not have more Russian speakers in the Frontroom. :P
The last Russia I knew on here got banned...
