View Full Version : Poll: What do men notice about women?

Askthepizzaguy

Diana and I have a disagreement regarding what men notice about women. I, being a man, have my own opinions, and she, being a woman, is the one who is correct. :clown:

Now, here's the deal:

I hold the opinion that women paint their fingernails, toenails, wear false nails, wear lots of jewelry, get fancy purses, etc more for the benefit of other women, than as it pertains to attracting men. In my view, men aren't really concerned with long, pretty fingernails. I concede that they would care if the nails looked unkempt or dirty or cracked or whatever, but false nails and sparkles and paint aren't really things men care about.

She contends that women use long fingernails, false nails, nail polish, and jewelry to attract men, too, just like having long hair. She believes that men notice those little details or are important in factoring in attractiveness.

While I am sure the truth is somewhere in the middle, I would like to open up this thread with a questionnaire. Please indicate if you're male or female when responding (that means you, dudes with princess avatars and ladies with male avatars!).

1. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by painted fingernails?

2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails?

3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry?

4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails?

5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)

Thank you!

Feel free to post additional comments.

I am a man.

1. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by painted fingernails? Don't really notice it.

2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails? Once again, don't really notice it, not a big deal

3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry? I've noticed it sometimes but rarely. Sometimes if I do notice it it's because they're wearing too much of it.

4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails? They make feet more attractive to look at I guess, but I still think feet are gross in general regardless.

5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general) Long hair, the longer the better.

1. I'm not attracted by painted fingernails, gaudy fingernails are a turnoff.

2. I find really long nails to be a bit off-putting actually, regardless if they are real or not. It seems 'fake' to me.

3. Excessive jewelry is a big turnoff, it also screams "fake". I find those belly-button piercings horrendous, and nose piercings even worse. As the old saying goes, "a little goes a long way," so tastefully done accents are fine.

4. Couldn't give a hoot if toenails are painted or not, I only tend to notice if it's gaudy.

5. Long hair. I absolutely detest short hair on women.

Additional commentary; I will admit the first things I notice on a woman is 1. her face followed immediately by 2. her.... chest region. My eyes always tend toward that area anyway on anyone, since I do not like making eye contact with people, but that is slowly changing.

Edit - I am a Jadacha hermaphrodite.

MAN

1. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by painted fingernails? NO. Mostly disgusting.

2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails? NO. Fake nails disgust me to some extent.

3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry? NO. You'll only notice it negatively when it's too much.

4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails? NO. Rather disgusted.

5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general) DEPENDS. Long hair is fantastic and beautiful, but short hair can be the absolute epitome of attractiveness in certain cases.

6. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by the penetrant smell of perfume? NO. It really puts me off.

1. Are you attracted by painted fingernails?
I don't think they add much, but I'm not repulsed by them unless they are over the top.

2. Are you attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
Not really.

3. Are you attracted by jewelry?
No. Jewelry is strictly for making other girls jealous.

4. Are you attracted to painted toenails?
Meh.

5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)
Long hair.

I'm with Whacker on first impressions. Face, then shape. Little add-ons and trinkets don't count for much.

1. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by painted fingernails? Not a major factor, would probably make someone slightly less attractive to me.

2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails? Nope.

3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry? Nope.

4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails? Nope.

5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general) Short.

I get the feeling men see most of the things mentioned and subconsciously see the woman as easy, rather than more attractive.

Guy over here.

1. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by painted fingernails? Does not bother me. I do notice however the state of her nails. A woman's hands reveal a lot about her.

2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails? No difference.

3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry? If it complements her, then yes. No over the top stuff, gets me away from her.

4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails? No difference.

5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general) Long haired girls. :smitten:

Accessories are mainly to show the competition between women, and that's it. A beautiful ring on a girl's soft hands looks stunning and plus it gives you something to talk about. If she has too much then it smells fake.

1. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by painted fingernails?
Yes

2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
No. Nails should be of modest lentght. Fake nails are a bit of a turn-off

3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry?
Not really. I love jewelry as an elegant fashion accesoire. Not enough women however have restraint good taste, they might as well make a hole in hubby's platinum card and wear that around their necks - the function would remain the same.

4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails?
Yes!!

5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)
Long!!

6. Are you attracted to boobies?
Yes. There can never be enough boobs in my life. Women should walk around naked at all times. Curse my ancestor Ugh, for that dreadful day he climbed atop that rock and spoke to his tribe: 'people, I've got an idea...why don't we up and leave the tropics for the north, we can use the hides of mastodonts to protect us from the cold''

Very manly

1. Painted fingernails? I dislike it really.
2. longer nails? I used to associate it with witches actually. Still do. I think long nails are wierd, not attractive.
3. Jewelry? Not specifically. It can sometimes 'add' to her clothing and her look.
4. toenails: I don't know what could be attractive about it really...
5 Hair: I prefer long haired women in general. However sometimes a shorter style can fit the face/head and can sometimes add to her look.

In general I don't watch all these details. The face and the body (together with health condition, smell, level of Oestrogen, genes and fertility... but those kind of things are more biology if anything) are important but a lot of it is in the way she acts, moves and personality. Though sometimes a woman who isn't that pretty can be more attractive because of a certain fitting and well done look. So sometimes some accesoires, including jewelry, or hairstyle can add to. But personality and other factors can make a woman more attractive as well in my eyes. Fitting natural make up does work for me, but it has to be very subtle and natural, but even if it works its not concious. I guess it just makes me think she has healthier skin and more Oestrogen than she really has...

Conclusion: Face, body personality are of most importance. Though probably Oestrogen levels as well. Assecoires only add very little and only on rare occasions. Clever but subtle make up can work if done right. Often it makes them look like streetwalkers but then again I guess these days its what a lot of men are looking for...

1. Are you attracted by painted fingernails?
Not really. Garish colors no, the nicely manicured natural look is much better. A woman's hands and how she cares for/presents them says much about her.

2. Are you attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
Long nails are a bother and those fake ones with the designs seem silly.

3. Are you attracted by jewelry?
Tasteful & simple is more attractive to me. My wife's single strand pearl necklace with matching earrings and that little black dress...oohh lala.
Those "material girls" that like to flash those Hope diamond size rocks with more gold chain than Mr. T...screams high maintenance to me.

4. Are you attracted to painted toenails?
Clean is good enough for me.

5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)
Depends on the girl. Short hair flatters some better than others. I definitely prefer my women with hair.

4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails? Dont care

1. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by painted fingernails?
Depends, a nicely painted nail can be very attractive, but so can a plain one. Over the top looks ugly.

2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
Nails that are too long are a turn off, and fake nails are absolutely hideous.

3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry?
I'm probably the wrong person to ask since I have a strange aversion to all jewellery, I can't even stand watches. No, I find all jewellery very unattractive.

4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails?
Same as fingernails.

5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)
Depends on the woman. Some look good with long flowing locks and some look good with a short, spunky haircut.

2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails? Naw, just want them clean.

3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry? Only if its simple and classy, like a basic necklace. Ambivalent about ear rings, and anything more than that is excessive and a turn off.

4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails? Naw, just want them clean.

5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general) Long hair.

First and foremost, a woman must have a pleasing face. I don't consider this a terribly hard requirement, just means teeth are in good shape, no nose or lip piercings, a bit of makeup maybe, but nothing excessive caked on. Glasses aren't a problem unless they really clash with the rest of her. I will say that I've seen a few women out there who just weren't blessed with a good facial structure- a few who were otherwise very good looking but had a head structured like a bull dog. After that, a, uh, pleasing "overall structure" comes next. And it goes without saying she needs to be compatible with my personality.

I am a heterosexual male

1. Don't really care for it. Natural or glossed is better but I'm usually pretty ambivalent

2. Long nails and fake nails are absurd and distasteful. I'm not from jersey. However, womens nails should be longeer than her mates.

3. Simple, elegant classy. Traditional ears peirced I have never dated a girl with a piercing in the facial area. I find it distasteful and ugly. Bellybutton piercings are icky too. I find body piercings gross on men or women.

4. Same as fingernails I prefer a clear glossed look, not a huge fan of colors.

5. Almost exclusively long and I dislike long braids for some reason. A nice fall down or ponytail is good for me.

What do I look for? Initially face then legs then abdomen. I go for athleetic girls tight musculed bodies. Breasts are nice of course but aren't top priority. The last three girls I dated were a softball pitcher (her right arm was bigger but it was sort of cool) a ballet dancer, and a soccer player.

I am trans-gender.
1. Nope. I like well kept fingernails. Some painted fingernails can look just as attractive and sometimes more so than natural ones, but often it looks fake and unattractive.
2. Not at all. I prefer women with nails no longer than 1.5 cm from their fingertips. Of course I wouldn't not date a woman because she has long finger nails, but I much prefer them to be normal length.
3. The right kind of jewelry (very modest, conservative jewelery) can make a beautiful woman look like a dream. The wrong kind of jewelery can make her look like a lot of other things. :P As a rule I think, more is less, and a little goes a long way.
4. Honestly, could not care less. I generally do not look at women's feet anyway, but as with fingernail paint, it depends on the kind. I hate sparkely or obnoxious paint on toe or fingernails.
5. In general, I prefer long hair over short hair by a great deal. That said, some women really know how to look steamy in short hair. I think it depends a lot on the girl and the hairstyle itself.

I'm an object.

But I agree with the general view here that it either doesn't really matter or is even bad when it's over the top.
Whether long or short hair is better depends on her overall looks, generally medium I guess.
Oh and painted toenails are a bit worse than painted fingernails, more than one or two metal things in a face is never a good thing, I prefer none, ears are okay though, sometimes even positive.

1. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by painted fingernails?
I don't paint my own unless I'm feeling experimental (such as painting them to match dyed hair or something), but I generally don't mind painted nails when they're one or two hues... it's when you see patterns and designs on them, I don't like that.

2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
Long/fake nails are a hazard waiting to happen, whether the relationship is male-female or female-female; I hate them with a passion.

3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry?
I think it depends on the jewellery and how it completes their ensemble, as certain things are just a no-no for me; I sigh when I see a chavvy girl on the bus or down the street with more gold around her neck than Mr T, for example. I'd genuinely pity the fool.

4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails?
They are neither here nor there, really... I guess one has to make feet look attractive somehow, right? As with fingernails though, I can't stand tacky patterns and such.

5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)
For men, I prefer it short-to-medium length; really long hair looks ridiculous on a man, makes him look unkempt. For women, my tastes in hair are a little wider; I can dig the whole shaving bits of it off just as much as I can the more feminine look. :3

Those are my own responses to the questions as a woman, because I felt that the attitutes of men towards these things would largely be a case of "I don't care", and why should they? Just why would you find yourself attracted to someone because of painted nails or jewellery when they've got eyes, smiles, legs, boobs, wit, intelligence and hundreds of other things that are more important? :P

1. Are you attracted by painted fingernails?
As long as they're clean, otherwise meh.

2. Are you attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
Not really.

3. Are you attracted by jewelry?
Nope... but conversely too much or very expensive jewellery in a odd context can be a good warning.

4. Are you attracted to painted toenails?
Nope.

5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair?
Whatever works. I knew a girl with long hair, but the sides shaved really short, she was hot. Some girls look better with long, some with short, some with crazy.

Well it's been said before, above. Face is what initially draws my attention, otherwise you've got a prawn on your hands. And secondly, legs. Long legs.

Man.

The nails don't attract at all. Infact women with trim, clean nails would be preferable.
Long hair is better than short. A lot better. long flowing tresses.
As far as jewelry is concerned, IMO, jewelry can make a difference in certain specific circumstances. For instance I remember we had a young teacher at college who used wear slightly low-cut salwar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salwar) and this fine gold chain around her neck. She used to look very pretty and the chain added to her beauty.

1. Are you attracted by painted fingernails? No. If anything, not having them clean or jagged would be a turn-off, but nothing in them attracts me.

2. Are you attracted by longer nails or fake nails? I don't care about them. Same answer as above.

3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry? I hate Bling. If a female wears jewelry, it is to compliment their look they are going for in that situation.

4. Are you attracted to painted toenails? I don't even look at toenails, but unless they are manky and not clean, I wouldn't care less.

5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general) I would go with Long hair, but ultimately, I don't care unless it is ugly. Women have a massive advantage in enabling to look however they want, with a large varability of styles. Short, Long or Crazy

On the otherhand, men have to pretty much have short-hair or they are considered gay or transgendered, having a large social stigma against them.

How many "Cute" males do you see with long flowing hair, perhaps in a dress, skirt, or even a blouse?

How many masculine females do you see, perhaps in a suit and tie, or similar?

If your answers are like mine, they are "Never" for the first and "Often" for the second, respectfully. Males are punished far more than females on their looks, since how many men look also identical in style, as if they are different, they receive significant discrimination and punishment. Women are far free in their choices.

For example, I could go to town with Secura, I will have cargo pants, tshirt and trainers, then Secura could turn up identical to me, basically, and could be considered "attractive".

There has never been a case where Secura has turned up, and I turn up with long flowing hair, a purse, and gothica-style dress and shoes with heels on and I doubt the females would find that attractive!

If some women choose to have horrible fake-tan, dyed pitch black mangy hair and tramp-stamps, it is their choice. But if anything, I know far more males who find this a turn-off than a turn-on.

I never look at a womens fingers the first time I see them.

2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
No, I prefer neatly kept nails shorter real nails. Maybe some nail polish.

3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry?
I think belly button rings and a small nose ring are kinda hot, apart from the whole earing business.

4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails?
Nope

5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)

Do you consider Conan the Barbarian gay or transgendered when you see him?
I have relatively long hair (about from the top of my head to half my ears when cut, below my ears after I let it grow, certainly longer than most men) and I have seen manly men with even longer hair while most gays often seem to go for the same short haircuts all the other men have.
I have been mistaken for a girl now and then but that doesn't distract me a lot, I'd be mistaken for a broom if I had short hair. ~;)

I've got hair to right below my shoulder blades, which is pretty long I'd say. And I'm considered to be quite manly, though I'm not the tallest or most muscular. But having a beard might be helping a lot at not looking feminine.

Dude here, I think I tend not to notice 1-4 unless something's wrong (too much make up or jewelry etc), however I think when a girl is rocking 1-4 correctly, she is more attractive but as a guy I don't notice those specifics. I just think she's hot.

As for long or short hair, it definitely depends on the lady in question. To make a very vague generalization I might say that long hair works better if a girl is "hot" while short is better if the girl is "cute" but there are tons of exceptions to both rules.

Man here.

1. Are you attracted by painted fingernails?
There's generally a number of things I notice about a woman, whether her fingernails are painted are not one of them.

2. Are you attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
Uhh.. neither. Fake nails give an awkward vibe

3. Are you attracted by jewelry?
If the girl feels the need to overdo it then it's a huge turnoff, but otherwise I'm not going to notice. Well I will notice, rather it won't factor in.

4. Are you attracted to painted toenails?
Painted toenails make me laugh, not that it's bad but they just look silly to me. Trying to explain that is always a fun conversation. :laugh4:

5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)
In general long, but I've dated a few girls with short hair. Depends on her really.

So overall a big fat :gah: from me.

Being honest, I think the biggest factor is "Are you overweight? (food/exercise)", "Are you clean and trimmed? (hygiene)", "Do you have a really off-putting facial/bodily feature?"

Now to these points with further development.

"I like my girl to at least keep as healthly as I am myself"
In otherwords, I am not obese, why would I want to date some one who is obese? There is no attraction in them.
A girl being overweight is a big turn off for me, even more than being too skinny.
If a guy is obese and making this statement, then they are just selfish. On the otherhand, if you take care of yourself, by eating healthly, walking when possible, and other things, you keep in a decent shape. When an obese girl struggles even when confronted with stairs, it is pretty much a rediciliously unhealthy state, which makes it really unattractive.

"When I said about Dirty Sex... I didn't mean for you not to have a shower for 2 weeks"
I shower everyday, perhaps even more than once a day, depending on any further social functions after work or otherthings. Showering involves washing my hair, all parts of my body, with brushing my teeth every morning and night at least.
So when a girl hums as she doesn't even have clean hair or even bothered to wash herself.. same as the other point, it is pretty much "eww". I want some one who at least plays attention to this stuff as much as me. If you want more personals, I also trim body hair (such as arm pits) and other areas to make myself presentable. Also unfortunately for me, I also have very fast growing hair due to high testorone levels, so if you want to talk about "hair grow" problems, I have to shave around up to 3 shaves a day, if I wanted to look like have an afternoon shadow (Dark hair, light coloured skin, I never look unshaven).

If the girl is "no" to the first two, then she is pretty much eligible for any guy out there. However, there is only one stumbling block.

"Ouch! You didn't have to stab me in the eye with your nose!"
Most of the time, things like large noses, or big chins aren't really much of a problem, unless they are rediciliously adnormal. Personally, I dislike females who have the "no chin" look. I don't know why, but it just looks weird for me. If they have a larger than normal chin, I have no problems with, unless it can be doubled for a shovel.

Sometimes the genetic pool throws us a curve-ball, which luckily simple but expensive surgery can correct. But other than extreme cases, it isn't a real issue. Sure, your nose might be on the bigger size, but it won't drastically reduce your chances that much.

I have preferred quite a few "average", I think Pizza has even seen a picture of a girl I dated who had a long neck. (Yes, people made Ostrich jokes, etc), then again, being the tallest person on the Org (according to the 'How Tall are you?" thread) being around 6foot 6 (198cm), I regularly had comments such as "Is that your partner or your girlfriend" or females put-off because the average height of a female around here seems to be 5ft 1 to 3. So in many ways, this is much of a non-issue, unless drastic.

Thank you all for your honest answers. I knew that if something was over the top, it would be a turn-off (and it should be- I agree). I personally hate it when women that wear too much make-up, bling, too bright polish, or the bling in the polish on their nails. I really hate the long fake nails. I like a much more natural look also, and it is nice to see that most men do too. I also figured that most men like long hair on women, but it is nice to see that some men don't really care as long as the women looks good with the hair style they have picked. To me the best is tasteful and classic, with all accessories, make-up and nail polish. The only thing that was a bit of a surprise to me, was that you don't notice nails, and don't like a light color on the nails,(although some men may like it because, I have been complemented on my nails, hair, and jewelry, by men before (and they weren't gay), I thought this would be more of a sign of femininity, (men (well in general) don't wear polish). And it goes without saying (at least I hope) that being clean is a must. (this goes for guys as well, just so you know). So I think for both sexes, being clean, well cared for, manicured, natural look is the best. Thanks again for you answers, feel free to add more.

1. Are you attracted by painted fingernails?
I am indifferent towards them. Although when they are painted in really bright/dark colours they start to look really unnatural and not good.

2. Are you attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
I seem to be the only one here to say yes to this. As long as they are not ridiculous, they can look quite feminine. In any case, they really shouldn't be like my nails, which right now barely exist and I have ragnails all down the sides. That would look really nasty on a woman.

3. Are you attracted by jewelry?
No. And too much jewellery can look tacky. Especially if it's the chavy bling type.

4. Are you attracted to painted toenails?
Same as I said for painted fingernails.

5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)
Long hair. This is a must. Most women look really bad with short hair, and the ones that look OK would still be better with long hair. I don't know what the deal is with all these middle-aged women with short hair these days. Sometimes they even spike it up like they are a ten year old boy, and I'm talking about women that otherwise dress quite respectably.

In general, I would say the things I go by in order of importance are:

1. Face (most important by far)
2. General body shape (should have nice femenine shape, also maybe include height under this, for which no extreme in either direction is good)
3. Particular 'assets' (yeah they're great, but not really so important in the wider picture)

I don't see personality as being opposed to looks. Personality has a big affect on physical attractiveness, just from the way women carry themselves in general, their mannerisms or whatever. So I didn't list personality above, it's more something that is reflected throughout the things I listed above (well, not so much the third one, maybe, but you get what I mean).

A. High heels, turn-on or don't care I don't care normally. Boots are definitely what I like best, not too elegant and not too "sporty", not too high though.
B. Color of hair Dark brown, black, light brown, blonde, red - in that order.
C. Processed hair (bleached, colored...) I don't care as long as it looks natural. Not fond of punk colours.
D. Where is the line between sexy and trashy cloths... I don't know either. What I like is definitely the absence of a bra of any kind.
E. Height and body weight Should be skinny, or chubby, or normal, whatever fits her best - as long as it's not obese or anorexic (but neither of the latter two fits anyone best I assume).

Here's another one to add to the list: perfume. Less is definitely mo better.
Weekends at work are visiting day for the cons. Some of the women coming to visit wear so much perfume you can smell them walking in from the parking lot.

E. Height and body weight

Shoes, I don't care about at all. I'm short, so a lot of girls are either my height, or will be taller if they wear heels, so I'd prefer not.

Whatever colour looks good with the girl. The fake white/purple/silly colours annoy me though.

Sexy/trashy? If she looks like a whore, she is probably a whore. I don't like stockings, or emo/goth stuff.

Height, as long as she isnt a heap taller than me, and as long as she has a relatively flat stomach and not tuckshop lady arms, or massive legs, I don't care.

A. High heels, turn-on or don't care

I don't care, but it probably helps the girl out in my case, since I am so tall.

B. Color of hair

Depends on the person. Some look good blonde, some look best Brunnette, others pull Red off very well. The worse hair colour though to get right, is ginger.

Obviously there are Alyson Hannigan, Dina Meyer and Karen Gillan...

C. Processed hair (bleached, colored...)

I don't care as long as it looks good. For example, Secura loves attempting to do the Hayley Williams look.
http://www.glogster.com/media/1/6/27/16/6271628.jpg

Then there are others, like my cousin, who try to do the "Jordan" pitch-black look.
http://blogs.menmedia.co.uk/old/bourne/Jordan.jpg

Which looks bad.

Though, it was kind of amusing when my cousin decided to dye her hair brunette, and I commented "Your hair looks good now", and she goes "People keep saying that, did my hair earlier looked :daisy: or something?"

Speaks for itself. :laugh4:

D. Where is the line between sexy and trashy cloths...

Can't answer due to too many options.

but Gok Wan does a lot of good looking clothes for women at times, in his fashion fixes, even makes 'bigger ladies' look good too.

Basically, you do not need to wear less to seem sexy, if anything, it just makes you look trashy. I will give you free fashion advise, the dresssense which looks like it hints at revealing something, it far better than the dresssense that simply shows it. In short, if you wear a short trashy dress, it looks like that. However, another person would wear a one-piece which only reveals, head, hands and feet, and that looks far sexier.

Also, another strange thing, a girl in a skirt looks better if she covers the lower half of her legs in socks/boots, etc, rather than leave them showing.

For example from random googling -

First with legs covered with socks/boots:
http://fashionbombdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/tracy-reese-fall-2009.jpg
Bare legs:
http://katherineisawesome.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/skirts_1.jpg

Ultimately, the easiest way to tell is the amount of skin you are showing.

I will make this clear though, wearing clothes doesn't equal covering up your curves. You can still can still show off your assets.

E. Height and body weight

There is no set height or weight. It is more of the relation between the two. One thing is definitely a turn-off in my book, if is they are overweight, it is simply unhealthy. As I listed earlier, I eat healthy the vast majority of the time and do some physical exercise, I even want to get a dog (For many reasons) but one of them is to have an excuse to get exercise. The end of the day, I am not going to date some one who struggles to even get up the stairs because of their weight, and I want some one who is at least roughly the same as myself. If they are a little bigger than me, I won't mind, but yeah. I am within the 'normal weight' range for my height and at the upper end of that (Which I have been), I feel the need to check what I eat or how much exercise I do. So if someone has really surpassed that, they clearly don't care about themselves as much as I care about myself.

tl;dr answer: I prefer them on the taller size (Afterall, I am very tall myself), I prefer them not to look bigger than myself around the waist-line, if anything, in proportion to their height.

B. Color of hair
I've been attracted to women with all sorts of hair colour. I've got no set preference. I do find great hair very much a turn on.

C. Processed hair (bleached, colored...)
Rather not, but it can be done tastefully, look natural.
I knew this girl who one day truned up with pink hair. It was awesome, very hot.

D. Where is the line between sexy and trashy cloths...
I'm a bit traditional. A well cut blouse is so much more sensual than a cleavage down to a belly button. Skirts are always too short rather than too long.

E. Height and body weight
I like 'em a bit on the tall side, but anything works when the right proportions are there. Weight, I am afraid, is a complete deal breaker for me. Too much and it just doesn't work for me.

B. Color of hair
C. Processed hair (bleached, colored...)
D. Where is the line between sexy and trashy cloths...
E. Height and body weight

These are a bit less black and white for me.

A. Like high heels, BUT the gal has to carry herself well in them. Some gals try them and they just can't pull it off. The one who do wear them, know they look hot, and know how to walk (strut? shake their butts?) are what I dig.

B. Another subjective one, my general response is that the hair needs to go with the gal. I honest don't lean really hard in any one way or the other.

C. Natural hair, but if it's colored but done well and you can't tell it's not natural, I don't really care. Definitely none of that exotic or colored crap like you see on what I think they call "scene girls".

D. Good question. I don't have a good answer. Some things that ARE trashy as hell are the "whale tails", the things where you can see the gal's thong underwear above their pant's waistline. There's generally a big difference between a girl who's dressed in a certain manner that is tasteful and says "Hi, I'm hot and in the market, what I'm wearing accents my natural features in a classy way." vs. "Hi, I'm a huge slut, here look at my @#% and @#%@#$ because if you buy me a few drinks I'll pretend to be drunk and we can go !!!!! all night long." Of course my version of what meets the above criteria will not always be the same as other men's.

E. For me it's "acceptable" and "unacceptable". Height is relatively easy, I should be able to touch the tip of my nose to the center of her forehead when we are standing face to face. Don't really like super short, and I do not like gals to be taller than me, which is rare since I am 5'10". My wife fits that criteria perfectly. Body size, I have always leaned towards girls with a little meat on their bones (but NOT fat), I believe the proper term is "voluptuous". Again I will unashamedly admit to being a "boobs" kind of guy, so that is one of the things I always looked for. I have dated the thinner, more athletic girls in high school and college, but have always seemed to lean back towards that particular body style above. They say "larger" people will tend towards "larger" significant others, same with skinnier, etc, but I haven't always found that to be true. My own body type was up until 2 years after college very muscular and athletic, I still somewhat have my old "swimmer's V" for those who know what that is. Gained a ton of weight, on the order of 70-80 lbs, of which I've managed to shed roughly 60, so I walk around at 185-190.

Conan the Barbarian looks like he likes to dominate weaker males as women are too fragile for him, according to 'societies values'.

A. High heels, turn-on or don't care
B. Color of hair
C. Processed hair (bleached, colored...)
D. Where is the line between sexy and trashy cloths...
E. Height and body weight

A: Depends a lot on the remaining looks(other clothes etc.) and whether she looks like she can walk on them(according to my unprofessional eye), but if she can and has taste, it's definitely a plus.

B: Natural is usually best in any case, maybe a slight preference for brown.

C: Not necessary, turning brown into pitch black just makes you ugly...

D: Sometimes it's just whether it looks like your clothes have been washed in the last two months, otherwise it's hard to explain, you know it when you see it.

E: With height I am flexible, with body weight it should be somewhere in societal norms so to say, definitely not overweight, but underweight isn't sexy either, in between the two it depends on the overall stature and looks, some women can pull off being a bit chubby, others can't.

F: And to add a very special one, I don't mind a lot of physical disabilities that much either, wheelchairs, glasses, other prosthesis etc. aren't a no-go for me even though I have really good eyes myself. ~;)

G: Tattoos, unnecessary, maybe a few I wouldn't mind, but if a girl plastered them all over the place I wouldn't find that attractive anymore, lust like with fingernails, I usually prefer a natural skin tone.

H: Job, she has to be a manager or higher to deserve me.
Ok, just kidding, it doesn't matter that much.

I: Cellphone, pink isn't an advantage but having a Smartphone or iPhone would be a plus since it shows she's not afraid of computer stuff and I can send free messages to other iPhones. :sweatdrop:

That's all I can think of for now.

A. High heels - I don't really have a preference for petite or tall women, as many have said it's the look of the whole package that counts. Wearing heels just to get a few inches doesn't do anything for me. Heels can enhance the look of a woman's calves/legs/behind if she doesn't have it naturally. But this doesn't require the ridiculous 6 inch pornstar heels/soles, and this look is not needed if the legs aren't bare.

B. Color of Hair - Depends, mainly on how well the hair fits the skin tone/complexion. From a distance, I find my eyes gravitating to blonds/redheads, but up close it's all about how well the hair complements the face and eyes.

C. Processed hair - If I can't tell, I don't care.

D. Demarcation line of clothing sluttification - I prefer to have something left to the imagination. And spandex is a privilege, not a right.

E. Height and body weight - A healthy look is better than skinny or, well, not so skinny. Height doesn't really matter, but the weight should match. Some girls can get away with carrying a little more weight, a cute face and outgoing personality goes a long way here. Also, the thin girls getting C-D cup implants aren't fooling anyone.

I do remember the lass that caused my sig was slightly taller, and that that somehow attracted me to her (among other things). people who are considerably shorter tend to make me patronizing, and overly tall women just don't interest me.

Feel free to post additional comments.

like moros, personality matters; I like people who are relatively placid and quiet, but can assert themselves when the time comes. I like women with brains on their heads, and can use that brain. age should be the same as mine-people too young or too old I tend to lose touch with quickly, regardless of gender (unless they're into Earth Sciences or the TW series-and that is regardless of gender). for some odd reason, I tend to be attracted/have my attention grabbed to women with greyish or green eyes.

bear in mind, I only seriously liked one person, and put effort into that case (a few involuntary crushes, but I don't count those; last one was when I was 16). And that one didn't end well; haven't actually been attracted/interested to a person in years. Helps that I have better things to do, like earning a PhD, finding a good Job, helping my family when they're too senile to help themselves (oh wait, already are; mom's been repeating the same orders, even after I did what she asked for the first time, often seconds after finishing-and saying that I have.).

of course, what really kills/killed my chances is my personality and looks: sarcastic, aggressive, used to be somewhat awkward round the ladies, talks too much (types too much as well). 3 years after that incident, I've added to that cynical, brash, lawless, and am relatively infamous wherever I go (no, I'm not making this up). I'm not a specimen of manliness either in regards to my face; scarred, small eyed, large nosed, bad teeth (I have "Diadectes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Diadectes_phaseolinus.JPG) mouth", etc.

A. High heels, turn-on or don't care
I'm with the Frenchman on this. Also, if they can't walk in them they shouldn't be wearing them.

B. Color of hair
Black first preference. Blonde is fine, not white, not too peroxide-ish. Brunette with the fringe brushed the wrong way (https://img822.imageshack.us/img822/5748/08daniellasarahyba27.jpg) is liable to force me crazy. Um, red is fine, but needs to be judged on a case by case basis. Yeh...

D. Where is the line between sexy and trashy cloths...

E. Height and body weight
Not taller than me. Not too short. Proportional weight. So from skinny to athletic to a little bit of meat. Not into big girls, I don't mean the fat ones (not into them either), the ones who have masculine frames, etc. No thanks.

Don't mind tattoos as long as they are meaningful and aren't too abrasive.

Nose plays a big role. I have two friends, both have great bodies and decent faces, but MASSIVE noses, not good. But, on the otherhand, I knew a lass, she was decent but had a nose job to reduce the size of her nose and now she looks bland. Her big nose broke up an otherwise uninteresting face.

The only thing that was a bit of a surprise to me, was that you don't notice nails, and don't like a light color on the nails
Actually come to think of it, I will notice light pink nail polish. That is a plus. Garish colours are somewhat annoying.

What I like is definitely the absence of a bra of any kind.
This reminds me. Lasses with DD or bigger, their bras have two clasps, not one. Keep that in mind so you avoid embarrassment/confusion. :balloon2:

For the less is better list, I'll add makeup. I prefer the natural skin look. A little makeup is okay, but IMO usually unnecessary. A lot is bad.
Aye. French style, enough to simply highlight facial features, not thick like the icing on a cake.

1. Are you attracted by painted fingernails?
Painted fingernails aren't important to me, but I do like them because they're cute, the style of paint shows a bit of a girl's personality, and (if a girl has 'em) they make a good conversation-starter over coffee.

2. Are you attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
It doesn't matter.

3. Are you attracted by jewelry?
Jewelry can be used to enhance how a girl looks, i.e. silver earrings for a girl with raven-black hair. So, to a limited extent, my answer is yes. They certainly don't turn me off, anyways.

4. Are you attracted to painted toenails?
Pained toenails are soooooo cute. They usually tell me that the girl is playful, fun, and cuddly.

5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)
It depends if they look good in whichever length. I find myself attracted mostly to girls with long hair, but I've seen some pretty nice chicks with short hair before.

A. High heels, turn-on or don't care
High heels are nice and sexy, but I would be exasperated if a girl wore them for everyday use. For the workplace, expensive dinners, nights out, and that sort of thing, then yes, absolutely!

B. Color of hair
Black, blonde (a nice playful yellow, not that white-blonde BS), brown, red. In that order.

C. Processed hair (bleached, colored...)
This is a really tough question. I wouldn't be attracted to it, but I wouldn't be turned off by it. Whichever compliments the girl's looks, I guess? And nothing too fake-looking.

D. Where is the line between sexy and trashy cloths...
Again, another tough question. I won't even bother answering this one, sorry, it's too hard.

E. Height and body weight
I'm not attracted to any particular height or body weight. But I'll tell you right now, being slim is nice. But having some weight to give you modest love handles is definitely not a turn off, either. When I see girls like that wear casual, body-hugging t-shirts, I have a strong urge to cuddle.

But being fat or bony is a major turn off. I'd like to repeat some statements earlier in this thread that I expect my women to take care of themselves, just as I do with my own self.

I didn't mean it as an offense to you, but I have to admit, I was originally confused by your femininity in the beginning myself. If you remember one of our first chats where I turned around and I asked "I can't help but wonder, with the name of Cute Wolf and that pink fox creature with hearts..."

I think it is probably why it is 'easier' to spot a homosexual male than a homosexual female. Because of the social stigma, you don't usually see males in a situation as yourself, displaying their femininity, but when they get released from the closet, as it were, they are not bound by the same rules, if anything, they feel empowered and freed, because calling a homosexual, an homosexual isn't much of an 'insult'. It is like calling a piece of chalk, a piece of chalk.

Also, in many ways, this reinforces the 'circle of stigma' ... cruel world.

Diana and I have a disagreement regarding what men notice about women. I, being a man, have my own opinions, and she, being a woman, is the one who is correct. :clown:
...

1. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by painted fingernails?
Lol ... no.

2. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
No.

3. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted by jewelry?
"Attracted" by jewelry? No. It can accentuate a person's physical appearance, but it's pretty much irrelevant in the overall evaluation.

4. Are you (if you're a man) or are men (if you're a woman) attracted to painted toenails?
Lol ... no. In fact, if I observe too much energy and attention being given to these kinds of things, it's a big turn-off. It suggests excessive vanity and perhaps, insecurity.

5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)
Neither. On the right woman, either. I consider the whole package. Though I have physical preferences/requirements, her personality and lifestyle, and how well they integrate with mine, carry much more weight.

***

The first reaction that popped in my head when I read the title of the thread was that: "most are vain." Heh.

I notice and consider mannerisms, behaviors, subtleties of speech, values expressed directly or indirectly through opinions in conversation--over time. These add up eventually to the point where I either decide to pursue, disengage, or be friends. On very rare occasions, it takes very little time. But I've learned the hard way to be especially careful when that happens ....

Which is interesting, as her academic achievements include maintaining a straight-A performance on exams even while pursuing her film career with the Harry Potter films, and had her pick of many fine universities, and not because she has money either. I'd also like to mention, her critically-acclaimed and award-winning performances, as the same character over a series of films, is difficult to achieve and not something that you'd find from a dumb-dumb.

I see I am in the minority about her appearance, but that could be due to small sampling. Given the fact that she's an actress and has done modelling, obviously some who are in the business of recognizing beauty agree with my viewpoint. :smug:

So, feel free to disagree, but note all that I am not budging from my original statements, and if you don't like it, I'll just add that to my list of things I view PROUDLY and unflinchingly from a minority standpoint, confident that it is indeed I who is correct. :beam:

C. As long as it looks natural, I'm ok with it. I still prefer natural.

To answer your question, no I do nor "fancy" women if they paint their fingernails. However, a girl who puts effort in to look pretty (in most cases) shows that she cares about herself and, whilst it isn't attractive, a woman who doesn't care for herself is unattractive. At the same time I'd stress that women who overdo it with the makeup and fake tan are also unattractive. Natural beauty, perhaps accentuated, is the best and most attractive.

MAN!!

1. Are you attracted by painted fingernails?
No... I dislike strong colours on fingernails.
If they absolutely want to paint their nails, use colourless or VERY light opaque colours.

2. Are you attracted by longer nails or fake nails?
Absolutely no.
I do notice nails on girls. I am impressed by well tended natural looking nails.

3. Are you attracted by jewelry?
Not really.
Conservative jewelry like a single necklace and small earrings/rings can enhance beauty though.

4. Are you attracted to painted toenails?
No... I don't like shoes on girls that show their toenails either.

5. Which do you prefer, long or short hair? (in general)
In general I don't think it matters. I have had girlfriends with both and I was very much into them at the time. Currently my sweetheart (wife) has long hair and I can therefore say that I currently prefer long hair.

A. High heels, turn-on or don't care
Deceptive. Heals that shape the legs is alright. Heals that significantly add height is a no no. I do prefer no heals though.

B. Color of hair
Natural. I do prefer blond though (but not fake).

C. Processed hair (bleached, colored...)
Natural with highlights is ok.

D. Where is the line between sexy and trashy cloths...
We need to be able to imagine how some body parts of the woman looks like.
Not too much cleavage or thigh.

E. Height and body weight
Personally I like tall and slender. I had a girlfriend once who was as tall as I was (6 feet). I really liked that fact.

If I may answer the very question in the thread header without the constraints of the parameters provided:
What do I notice about women?
The first thing I notice are their collarbones. I like straight outlined collarbones and is a foundation for a long neck.
example:

https://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y230/asleka/collarbone.png

Women with these attributes usually are slender and tall. If she has curves as well, she is to me very attractive.
