I've been wanting to open a topic about that for quite some time, but only do so now.
There's a sale going on at gamersgate. The list of games on sale changes every week, it's already the second week and will last two more.
I got Titan Quest Gold Edition, Loki and King's Bounty Gold Edition last week, and I'm thinking about buying Necrovision and Necrovision: Last Company now. Maybe Aquanox and Aquanox II as I remember they got pretty good ratings at the time.

Is gamersgate actually DRM free, as in a GoG style complete lack of restrictions?

Yep. You buy a game, and download it as many times as you want on as many computers as you want.

do you need any client, or other such authenticating nonsense?
if not that is brilliant, they are basically providing the same service as GoG, publisher permitting, and it is definitely where i will purchase vicky2 from!

No, you create an account, log on the website and download the game from anywhere at anytime. No other program required.

What happens is that you download a small application for each game that functions as a downloader. Once the files are downloaded, it installs the game for you. Before the installer completes(before you click finish), you can grab all the setup files for backup. I usually stick them on an external hard drive so I don't even need to redownload if I want to reinstall a game....
So yeah... It's a pretty cool system.

Hmmm, Fort Zombie for $2.50? It's probably terrible, but I'll admit to being tempted by it several times. I might pay that price just to satisfy my curiosity.:sweatdrop:

The part of this discussion about games on sale should be in the Special Offers Thread! (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?122834-Special-Offers-Thread!).
I'll keep this thread separate since it has turned into a Q&A about how Gamersgate works.
I so wished I used Steam for Victoria 2 instead of giving Gamergate a try. It is £5 cheaper on steam and you get Victoria 1 Complete for free. :daisy:
This always happens every-time I experiment with a Paradox product. First GG purchase as well.
[Though, if some one desperately wants it on GG still and not fussy with it being on an separate account. I would be happy to do a trade.
Gift it to me on Steam (with V1), I'll give you that code for the shiney Paradox icon, and I will give that GG account. ]
Personally, I'd choose GG over Steam, if for no other reason than that the former is less intrusive than the latter. I purchased EU3: Heir to the Throne from GamersGate, and was delighted by how hassle-free it was. :2thumbsup:

^ Yeah, I do remember you having an....unpleasant experience with them. (Yes, I'm prone to understatement. ~;p ) It's just that I've personally seen far more complaints over Steam that I ever have with GG, plus I've had a few minor issues with the former myself. Honestly, I'd say it's a YMMV-type situation; it's doing to depend on what kind of experience(s) you've had.
That being said, I definitely don't blame you for never wanting to never go through GamersGate again. If I'd gone through what you did, I wouldn't either. :skull:
I re-read the thread, what is disturbing, the link to that support article now links to http://www.impulsedriven.com/publisher/paradox_interactive o_O
(also, it was EU Rome, you should have kept your refund and never got it. It is a poor game)

I bought a dozen games on GG, never had any problem. What happened to you is sad, but things like that are bound to happen with digital distrib, whether you use Steam, Impulse, GG, GoG or even Battlenet... *shrug*
I had a problem with Starcraft 1 on Battlenet. But Victoria 2 being £5 cheaper on steam with Victoria 1 complete free shows you the real difference between the companies. Steam has all the better offers.
