A question from Bf109K:

Hello Everyone... Bf 109K here...I'm new to the forum... I have been reading a lot of everyone's posts regarding modding and have learned a great deal... however I have a straightforward question regarding modding the lbm and bif files. I can change the lbm files no problem and they work fine... but I have used RSW v22a program for modding bif files and while it seems to overwrite the bif over the old, when I run the game there are black lines in the review panel icon for the overwritten bif file that are not supposed to be there. Is there a way to modify and overwrite the bif files w/o these annoying black line distortions from appearing??? they do not even show up on the bif file when I open it... is there something I'm overlooking?

If this post could be sent to the dungeon that would be very helpful too guys :-D

This is because the image you are adding
to the bif has colours in the pallet
that are not in the bif pallet, most likely.
These colours will change to a colour in the bif's pallet.

To get around this use

a bif with similar colours

or adding colours from the pallet of your image
into a bif is possible.

or if you want to improve the ones you have
made, then go over the areas that are black
with a colour the bif has on it's pallet.

I hope this helps, if not let me know http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I get round this problem by extracting all 12 frames to bmp's, editing each BMP, just adding/changing a shield/weapon whatever, via Windows Paint (Note: other products I've used sometimes screw the palette up - Paint does'nt for 256 palette bmp's). Then I just import all 12 frames back in.

You may lose colours in whatever you've added BUT it does'nt change the palette.

LK - you have mail - I'll E_mail you further regarding this
