We are proud to present what will be the biggest event of this fall. With no further ado...

EB Online Champions Cup - Fall 2010
Starting 23 September 2010

Yes, you guessed it. It is about big fights, huge historic rivalries and most important of all, the chance to step up and be recognized! Who said Carthage has to fall? the Gauls be crushed? or the proud sons of Alexander be brought to their knees? Here is your chance to rewrite history, your chance to prove that a warrior's blood still runs through your veins!!

Format
This is a DOUBLE ELIMINATION tournament, which means that you will not be eliminated from the tournament unless you lose two games. This allows losers a second chance to claim victory. A sample of this type of tournament system can be found HERE (http://www.wow-europe.com/rf10/brackets-wc3.xml). As you can see, losers drop down into the lower bracket where they are given a chance to redeem themselves.

Rules
The gameplay and fairplay rules of EB Online still apply and can be found on the EB Online website (http://www.ebonline.tk). Every round you are allowed one week to arrange and carry out your assigned game between your opponent and yourself. Please post in the thread AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you are not able to make the game happen that week so that we can give you a one-time one-week extension.

You must play 3 games with your assigned opponent per round. Each round's winners are determined from the best of 3 games. This means you must submit 2 winning replays each round in order to progress.

Signing Up
To sign up for the Champions Cup, please reply to this thread. There are no restrictions on the faction(s) you wish to play with. That is, you may play as a different faction each game if you wish to do so. Feel free to experiment.

Just as with the regular free-play monthly tournaments we host here at EB Online, please do use the same name in-game and on Hamachi as you do on The Guild forum. This is mainly to avoid confusion. If your username is long, it's fine to shorten it (e.g. from "Hannibal Khan the Great" to "Hannibal Khan").

Replays
You must upload (preferably to Filefront (http://www.filefront.com)) and submit replays by posting links to the replays here in the form of a reply. Remember to state who you played against and who the winner was. Only winners are allowed to post replays so as to avoid duplicates.

Jury
Just as the monthly tournaments we host at EB Online, the Champions Cup will have a set of Jury members who will adjudicate cases of conflict. Because you only have a week to play your assigned games, WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU TO PLAY A NEW GAME IN THE CASE THAT YOU OR YOUR OPPONENT FINDS CONFLICT IN THE FIRST GAME. Jury members will, as always, not be allowed to participate in the actual tournament as players. Because of the recommendation above, do not expect any adjudication (as people are busy with work and family).

For any other information regarding general rules and so forth, please visit our website at www.ebonline.tk (http://www.ebonline.tk).

I cannot believe you actually asked to be signed up. You practically came to me with the whole text and concept, so I figured that was an automatic entry, haha.

Please read the introductory text before replying. We are signing up players, not factions. You will not see any factions listed on the tournament bracket, only the names of players. We're looking for champions (call it cheesy, it wasn't my idea).

EDIT: Something I haven't mentioned in this thread as of yet: For this first time I'm hoping for an 8-man tournament (unless we can fit 16 people), as I don't expect too many players to come forward. In the future, though, 16 or 32-man tournaments would be preferable.

I will be Rome as well. If not, then I will be AS, the Roman Killers.

I have no idea what happens if I have to play Slick.

I thought I was clear enough in the original thread. You simply put in an entry submission, you don't play as one or another faction.

"There are no restrictions on the faction(s) you wish to play with. That is, you may play as a different faction each game if you wish to do so. Feel free to experiment."

Imagine you are playing Round 1 against Slick. You have to play best of 3. Game 1 can be Slick (AS) vs ASM (KH), Game 2 can be Slick (Romani) vs ASM (Carthage), and Game 3 can be Slick (Saka) vs ASM (Aedui). The only thing that matters is that the winner of that round submit his 2 winning replays.

EDIT: Just sign me up Vartan.

No need to apologize. I actually think this one to be 1000x better than your previous one. There is nothing as innovative as improvement, other than invention I think. Much props.

Oh and ASM if that happens, be sure to apply your Guard-mode Cheeseburger combo to the order... it is the only thing that works wells vs my can of pure meat sauce remember... :wink2: :rifle:

Not my fault if some noob decides to charge into a situation that they can't win.

Yea, you might be right, but since it is impossible to surround you and starve you to death, what would be the purpose, as they say, in trying to provoke a sloth to stir? :rifle: :laugh4:Besides, your strategy depends on inherent imbalances and inconsistencies, such as you being able to recruit Successors at all, let alone have the ability to un-categorize the Greek Hoplite from being a phalanx. Cunning, but unworthy of repose.

What are y'all on about anyway? Thanks for signing up, may the rest of your conversation be non-verbal and non-literary and instead be portrayed as slashes and cuts on the battlefield.

UPDATE: Currently awaiting the return of Burebista in early September to decide once and for all whether we will be putting the top players of the last tournaments against each other (the true test of skill) or whether it is a free sign-up.

I was under the impression that July's tournament was the first of the year. If you use your top players you would only have 4, and if you use the top, say, 16 of the whole tournament, that is basically the whole tournament. Why not make it free then and assign spots to those whom will be committed to participating in it to it's completion?

Because we wish to test top skill. Burebista may have differing views, but the way I see it, optimal arrangement is to take the top 8 players of July and August (discretion for August due to low turnout).

Oh yea never mind... I guess that's why it's called EB Online Champions Cup. My bad.

Hi guys , sorry for being away , but ill be back somewhere around 3rd Sept.

Vartan , based on my previous (other games) tournaments , i also think it would be best if we would take the 8 players with the highest scores and make sure they are not matched up one against the other in the first round. This is to prevent the long awaited "big" matches being played in the first round and then see a steamroll in the finals.

The way i see it , if we have 16 players , we will have the 8 players mentioned assigned in spots 1,3,5,7,9,11,13 & 15 by lottery. The other players should be placed in the 2,4......16 places by lottery also. Remember that this is a double elimination so surprises will make things VERY interesting and it's a great way to shine if you're a less known player who bested a ranked player.

The optimal

Agreed, but you won't find 16 men and people won't play their games every week. I can tell because it's three weeks away and people aren't logging on.

Burebista will be back in 3 to 4 days. At that time we will have to make a decision. Either there will be a tournament for the top 8 players of tournaments past, or 16 players total, with the 8 mentioned plus 8 challengers, such as yourself.

May the best non-guardmode player win!

May the most courageous player win (which has also played against other experienced players but not looked only for cheap points from noobs)!

Well that means that I wish Burebista and MisterFred good luck in the tournament.

Sure, anyone can join as long as we get the sign-up rules finalized, Burebista and I. Just a heads up, though, this may be shifted to an annual summer-time event, like the Summer Olympics, except yearly. This is mainly because of the hectic nature of the playerbase during early summer, especially late May through late July.

I must say , i'm a bit surprised that people aren't more active and waiting for later to register.

This will be , probably , the best place to get an excellent multiplayer game so , why not give it a try? Even if you're not experienced , it's not like it's a game of experienced vs greens , it will rather be a lot of randomness during lottery for places.

The important thing right now is to play at least 1 game with someone to make sure you're setup works properly. This cup can wait another 9 months.

Well, the Fall Champions Cup will be moved to an annual EB Online Champions Cup (EBOCC) that will take place every summer. Summer, if you don't know, is the busiest time for the EB Online networks. At the moment, the networks are practically empty probably because of more than a few factors, including but not limited to work constraints, academic constraints (academic year for many students), and so on and so forth.

Good job. I personally spectated several games of yours live, real-time, so I know that your setup used to work just fine. I didn't understand why or how your setup subsequently failed to function properly, but it's good to hear that it's working fine now. For over 90% of people, the setup is not a problem. Problems tend to be so obscure that I can't think of possible fixes. They're beyond my scope of expertise (or lack thereof) in networking. Anyway, be patient. Next summer is just around the corner, haha, when people in the northern hemisphere will be out of school and have time for online gameplay.
