I'm very confused by how the traits "ImpressedByCats" and "SeleukidsDevelopCats" interact with each other. They're anti-traits, but it seems that (at least from my tired brain's' research...) "ImpressedBy..." turns into level 2, "Intrigued By Kataphractoi2" (sp?), which takes 21 levels, not just a peasant-like single level.
Now this is where I am really unclear: the trait either turns into "SeleukidsDevelopsCats," or the latter trait just appears alongside it.
Good lord, I'm confused just trying to lay this question out, and I hope it made sense. Can anyone please, puh-LEEEZE, kin:help:dly lay out how this process works? :help:

-At least year 253BC
-Two different generals must loose a large battle (including a loss to the general's bodyguard) against a faction that uses cataphracts (Pahlav, Armenia, Baktria).
You can always visit FAQ: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?84854-Europa-Barbarorum-FAQ
Good luck companion.

The main activation trait is "BeatenbyCats" iirc, then the chain of inter-traits fire off and you get cat reforms after 253 BC.

Well, I gotta thank both of you for your help. Not too long after I posted this (why does it always happen like that? I can't find something so I blame my dog, assuming that she ate it, and there it is, right on my desk or something....) So my campaign is pretty early, but Seleukids are AGAIN being a limp noodle for me. I had given ImpressedByCats to Antiochos and Alexandros probably on the first turn, and I gave it to 3-4 others as well. (bad, I know...I didn't realize at the time) But then (maybe a game year later) I read the EBBS script and started screwing around trying to have the reform triggered earlier; After realizing that giving it to everyone and their mom, I took the trait away from all Seleukids except for Alexandros Syriakos and his pops, and I cleared them (i.e. cleared the trait), then I gave them -- or tried to give them -- SeleukidsDevelopCats, changed it back to IBC2, blah blah. It wasn't working. So Spring 270 I used give_trait ImpressedByCats 2 on Antiochos Syriakos and the heir (I always forget his name...), and I gave SeleukidsDevelopCats (assuming you can give it to them, since its supposed to be a Nogoingback trait) to Alexandros Syriakos, and in Winter 270, the Coming of the Cataphract buildings showed up. :balloon2:
Thoughts..? :inquisitive:
Btw, by using the add_population, add_money, and process_cq to help the Romani and jack up Roma and Capua's infrastructure and population, I managed to get the March of Time pretty early :idea2:, well the changes were triggered in Spring 270, but Capua had built the huge city level (proconsular?) palace during the winter (or at least, started to build it, then finished it real quick-like with my help : ).
Let me tell ya though: that governor in Capua is STINGY!!! He's got a villa of the proconsul, his population is 40,000 something, Romani are by far the richest faction (thanks to Moi...), his public order is like 60% (plague broke out a few times, so be careful if you do this), yet he just wouldn't build that thing until -- GET THIS -- I sent a diplomat to personally give 40K as a gift. Now I have no idea if this had an effect or not, but when I loaded the save I made after I paid him, and ended the turn, he didn't build the proconsul's palace. Yet after I reI loaded the same save, paid him AGAIN, and ended the turn, voila: he was building just what his sugar daddy wanted...:laugh4:
BTW,
I have to thank the makers of EB for many things, but this has seriously helped my personal crusade to become more computer literate (which began 3-4 months ago, after I watched my ex girlfriend throw 2 GB of RAM into my old laptop, which sounded really complicated and scary to me, in about 3 minutes, and REALLY took off when I got this new laptop, an HP G62-140US, since it, well, you know, can do things and play games...? :laugh4:).
The amazing game play and the numerous ways in which the game reenacts historic events (especially when compared to other RTW mods) made me super curious about how it all worked, and the numerous scripts and triggered events have drawn me into computer jargon in a way that has actually been fun. I've gone from being your basic average American re computer competence (you know, use the internet, know what alt+control+delete is for, do a few things with the control panel...) to actually doing my own mods to RTW (and I mean besides changing the EDU and unit stats--I've been making/importing units, changing or making new scripted events, etc...I'm making a Roman general unit right now to replicate Caesar with his German mercenaries at Alesia, I'll try to post it for downloading or whatever if it comes out right), and that has made learning all of the other technical aspects of windows, programming, etc, a lot less intimidating.
The word 'verbose' springs to mind, you remind me of me.
Glad you figured it all out. But now its all confused me. I have never had the reforms before but tend to get my arse handed to me by many of the later factions AFTER I have already destroyed all the guys who can trigger my reforms. So this time I have been trying to intentionally lose and trigger the reforms so that I will have the units for when I really need them.
I got 'Intrigued by Cataphracts' on 2 of my generals (finally) and it says I need to wait a few years which I plan on doing. But your big spiel suggested that there are a number of things that happen to the traits? Do I need to have a more active part in making this happen or will it happen 100% without my input now the base level traits have appeared?

Yep, I will freely cop to being a wordy ass bastard, and one who types fast. Not a good combo sometimes...
I think that your set to get the traits now, but it takes like 20-24 turns. If you look up the trait you just got, ImpressedByCats/Intrigued By Kataphraktoi, in the export_descr_character_traits, there is level one and level two. One has a threshold of 1, which I usually NEVER pay attention to, but level two has a threshold of 21, and its supposed to appear as "Intrigued By Kataphraktoi2," but I don't really ever recall seeing a 2 after the trait.
The antitrait is SeleukidsDevelopCats, which is hidden and a "Nogoingbacklevel 1," or at least it's supposed to be. (It seems like I could go back and forth between Seleukids... and ImpressedBy... with the give_trait command, but other timess it seemed like Seleukids... was permanent)
The EBBS Script says the reform is triggered when the trait "ImpressedByCats" = 2, and that drove me nuts, thinking "so what, 2 guys need to have level 1, or one guy has to have 2? Arrghghghghhg!!"
After it picks up the ImpressedByCats 2 que, it keeps checking to look for the SeleukidsDevelopCats trait (it says SeleukidsDevelopCats>0) at the start of each turn, so I assume that either once the guys who have ImpressedByCats reach level 2 (it says that it should happen in 2 game years or so, 20 turns), it turns into SeleukidsDevelopCats, or other family members get it. Either way, I'm about 99.9999% certain that you'll get the trait. Just keep those guys alive : ) (and if they die, just use the cheat like my lame ass...)
I've been a hardcore Parthia player for so long that but I'm getting tempted to play as AS now. (I only discovered EB around 6 months ago...what a tragedy! And being a Middle Eastern history nerd, I about passed out when I saw the Parthian Reform FAQ, so I'm still giddy about triggering it) I remember trying a campaign for a turn or 2 with Rome Total Realism and it was a nightmare! half of the cities have like 60% Public Order...well, you know what it's like, obviously. Now though, I think it would be a good challenge. It must be if guys like you keep torturing yourself over and over chasing this evil cataphract reform!
I am trying to conquer the whole world with every single faction. My problem is that I have not yet managed to do it. Between save game corruption, unbeatable glitches and once a massive empire-wide collapse while using the nomads I am taking things more slowly.
Trying to get these reforms because last time I used Selekids into the late game I got my arse handed to me by super romans. I am really stingey with my money so never have spare troops anywhere or a proper army, not effective when fighting the entire western half of the map as one big faction.
Good news about my reforms. If I ever get a chance to get back on that computer I'll be able to finsih that game. For now its sweboz world-conquest on this computer.
