Duca Giorgio of Milan was bored. His advancing years did not weigh too heavily on him - he was lithe and physically fit for a man of his age. His years on the throne of the Duchy had been largely uneventful - here a border skirmish, there a successful operation against pirates, some treaties, some trade agreements, the matter of his holiness the Pope.
It was enough to make an intelligent man waste away with the tedium of it all. Even his nights at the dice table were becoming de rigeur. What was the world coming to when a man could not even gain excitement from a wager?
A wager.......a wager!
It was like a bolt of light from the blue - he sat straight upright and a broad smile spread itself across his face.
Why not propose a game, a bit of sport for all the various rulers of the countries of the world? No doubt they were as in need of diversion as he...
He grabbed ink, quill and scroll and began to scribble, putting his ideas into form as the Grand Wager came together in his mind.
Over the next ten years the rulers of the world would compete in a magnificent tournament of Kings, to be judged by their peers on all the matters which make a great statesman: military power, economic strength, diplomatic agility, vision, fortitude and sheer will.
It would be glorious!
Not many posts in here. Time to give it a whirl myself.
Give me a turn or two so the information isn't important. Just reserving this post atm.

Alfonso's Apology
I write this now with a clarity I have never felt before. He came to me last night, in a dream, and revealed himself in all his glory. An angle like I have never seen before; to even dare to describe his magnificent would be a sin to his beauty.
In the dream he spoke of things past and things yet to come; of how our mighty war could tear the world asunder. He showed me visions of the world being torn apart: waves, like mountains, crashing down upon London and slowly dragging her back into the mother ocean; Rome burning once more as fire and brimstone ravaged the Italian Peninsula; massive sandstorms buried the Holy Lands alive, leaving nothing but the tips of towers as a reminder of what was once there; Constantinople shook with a great force, crumbling till even stones where not recognizable.
I fell to my knees and pleaded, "Oh Lord, the horror. I beg of thee, stop this madness; I can't take any more. I'll do anything you ask of me, anything; just show me what must be done.
Then he spoke to me in a voice as soft as silk and soothing like a mountain stream. It pulled me in and wrapped me so tight and warm, I felt like a baby in a mothers protective grasp. What he said I shall never forget, and I shall never repeat, for the fear of misquoting even one elegant line. However I can convey the meaning of his message. He talked of a prophesy, a little known one. Actually it wasn't known at all, he just thought it sounded better calling it a prophesy and I wasn't going to argue. The prophesy foretold of the Lords faithful uniting the world. It told of great armies rising up and striking down all who followed the way of blood. It would be the great war to end all wars.
At this point I hesitated, what he was proposing would mean...how could I...my allies? But then I thought once more of the ashes of the world, all that would be left if someone did not heed the Lords calling, so I clenched my fist and swallowed my pride readying myself to do what must be done. Bowing at my Lords feet I swore allegiance to him, only him and his glorious mission.
I write this now as I go to war with those I once thought friends maybe even kin, but those ties mater not now. Only the Lord's will matters now. History may not look kindly on my actions here today, but I will now the truth; because of me there will be historians in hundreds of years to look back and make up their stories. I do regret what must be done, but because of me the world will go on. Lord I shall be your faithful Follower.
All Praise Him.
All Praise His Glorious Plan.
All Praise Him.
All Praise Lucifer.
