Yo.
My faction leader died in battle. Then my chosen heir became the FL. Curious to see who the computer set as the heir, I opened the family tree, but... this wasn't my family tree. This was another faction's family tree. After playing for a few years and a dozen turns, it still wouldn't let me view my own family tree. Strange.
Has anyone experienced something like this before? I tried a search, but the terms I used were rather vague and gave strange results.
Anyways, I'm gonna sleep on this and check it out tommorrow through savegames.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: do bribed generals have anything to do with this?

Huh. This should be in the bug sub-forum. Ludens, I hope you wouldn't mind a quick transfer?

On Rise of Persia, when you play as Sparta, something similar happens. Your faction leader's family tree is split from your starting faction heir's family tree. Basically, when the faction leader dies, his family tree is replaced with the old faction heir's wife and kids. I don't how or why it's like that, but it sounds like the same thing.

When a bribed general (and his descendants?) become king, the family tree reverts to his original faction.
This is ******* irritating.
hmm... Quite the same with my lastest Ptolemaioi campaign

I'll move it if you wish, but if your theory is correct this is a problem of R:TW, not EB.

Yeah, it's a RTW problem, I believe. I found a thread about this way back from 2006 in the TWC.
Anyways, as soon as the bribed general dies and another dude becomes faction leader, it reverts back to my faction's family tree. Annoyingly strange, but at least it can be bypassed without having to destroy the dynasty through adoption, clever modding of the name files, and the give_trait command.
Well, I'm gonna leave a bunch of words in case somebody from the future encounters this problem and does a forum search:
not my family tree bug faction leader bribed general family member glitch other faction faction's

I thought that changes to the the name files weren't game save compatible (?). Are changes to those buggers save compatible?:inquisitive: Or did I read way too much into your post and project my own wishes and desires? :inquisitive:

Yeah, they're save-game compatible. I've done it plenty of times. You can essentially name your own characters like this, though there are a couple different methods of doing so. This involves either changing the display name or changing the internal name (which in turn directs to a different display name).
