One of the more popular request for a MOD is a playable Scotland. I have one. Already includes new units (Schiltrons and Claymores), graphics, Campaign.TXT file ... the only problem is that I have not found a way to direct the program to use the scottish names in the english localization file.

Has anyone found where (if not hardcoded *crosses fingers*) the variable is that tells the program which "faction names" to use when naming Kings/Princes/Generals? If hardcoded, has anyone mapped which factions draw from which and especially the FN_FREE units? If not, I'll do that and provide the info in Wellington's variable definition thread.

if I understand what you want you should find your answers in \mtw\loc\eng\names.txt.

I got that part, but for instance, if you activate the Burgundians, they draw their names from the "french" list, the Sicilians from the "italian" list. I see Scottish, Irish and Welsh name lists, I'm guessing that those lists are used for Kerns, Gallows, Longbows and Highlanders only. Since I seem to recall "regular" catholic troops raised in those provinces have names that match your names of your "home" provinces. So if the French raise a Kern in Ireland, he'll have an Irish named leader, but raise a Spearman in Ireland as the Frnech and he'll have a French name.

Ah, now I get what you want. But unfortunately I cannot help you with it. I haven't spend too much time in the names.txt yet.

Unfortunatly the Scots,Irish & Welsh names are H,coded for the provence they fit. in my campaign I've used the papists as the scots and just amended the italian names which I've also put in some Irish names cause I used italians for Irish.

Which list of Irish names are you talking about?
I don't have one.The Irish I'v seen use Scottish
names.The are all hardcoded rebel names,
so no joy on that.

Wait...so you made scotland their own faction? with their own king/sheild and colors YAHOO May I see some pics? I know your not done yet but this is what I have been looking for Actually I would like all the rebels to get their own stuff (U know maybe 2 provinces can be 1 faction or combine 5 or 6 or in Scotland's case, just one) That would be sweet, just think, so many factions

WEll I would be looking for a more accurate setup which I belive WesW has done. I would also like to see more factions such as Scotland which is discussed in this post. I would like to see all the rebels gone, replaced by real factions, how ever minor in each starting date. All that would need to be done was give them an accurate shield/colors and a king to start them off, is that possible? Also I would like them to be playable.

Not possible unfortunately. We are limited to 20 active factions at ant one time, two of which appear to have to be reserved for the Golden Horde and the Swiss. So 18 possible player factions.

I've fixed the Scotland name problems BTW and am in he process of running an entire campaign to verify that they game does not crash on some trigger event (like the Horde).

Look for the MOD this week sometime.

What event triggers the Horde crash? I only made them playable but changing minor to major (forgot what lines they were) but never actually played as them.

Definatly yes when Wellingtons LMM prodject is completed all these mods will be available for download, the reason being that it will create the TGA's as well as the lukmaps.All I can upload at present is the scripts and lukmaps which are pretty useless without TGA's which are to big to upload,it will not be long,cheers M.E http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

also about the scotland troops, do u have any battle screen shots? also I think u should make the base of ur units (on the map) either blue with the little white on top or white with the little blue on top.

My mod is set in the 1640's which is the English civil war.
It has the Scots,Irish,Royalists,Parlimentarians&French.

Cool does it add on to the first 3 campaigns? I hope it doesnt overwrite them, and Scots will be avalible in early, high and late periods correct? did u take my advise for the bast of the units color change?

But don't you think you should wait until Viking Invasion is out to use that map - since it has much greater size & detail of England and Scotland? I would think that would be superior.

If you don't wait I'll definitely be interested in your mod.

Phalanx, my campaign still doesnt work, but I have manged to change the names. Just change the words inside the {} in the names.txt for the sur and forenames of the country u amended the Scots to be.

Any time frame when it will be done?

I'm thinking we can convert the entire European continent into Scotland with Spain being the northern Highlands and Russia being Northern England. The mod could run from mid 1600s thru the Jacobite period though personally I'd like to keep it from 1689 to 1746.

Most Scottish units can already be converted from stock MTW units (ie Varangian guard - Lochaber Axemen) though it would be nice to include new ones for Clan Chiefs, Scottish Nobles and Highland Arquebusiers. What would need work would be prospective French allies and English foes. I asked LK about this actually.

Players could play one of the clans or noble houses (Montrose/Graham; Argyll/Campbell; Huntley/Gordon) or the perfidious Albionic archenemies of the Scots.
