Is there a possibility to avoid the fusioning of units with to few men? I hate to lose one of my gold chevron HAs just because of that.

Other than playing on a larger setting, I don't think there is a way to prevent small units form auto-merging. But I don't remember RTW that well so you should scan all the options as well.

Units in RTW never auto-merge, for any reason whatsoever. The only way any two units can merge is if 1) they are the same unit and 2) if the player drops one unit onto the other or if he/she presses the 'M' key on the keyboard. By the way, you never 'lose' experienced men. The game keeps track of what percent of the unit is experienced. And you're likely to keep the experienced ones alive because they always start in the rear of the unit upon deployment (that's what tests show, anyway).

EDIT: Awesome stuff ASM. And it's fusing*, not fusioning.

Hmm.. I already play on huge.
But thanks for the fast answers, even though I dont really understand what vartan finally wants to say.

I don't recall fusing units? Can't you retrain the unit?

I am pretty sure auto-merging could be disabled in the options-menu.

@M to the A: I can, but the units merge instantly when the battle ends.
@Ludens: I searched all option menus i could find, but there was nothing like this.

Check the control lists. It should be there. As Vartan said, M should be the one.

Ok, but I never used M (did not even know about :D)

My problem is that the game merges the units after the battle when they are to small, without me doing anything.

Naliaw is right, the game DOES merge your units automatically if they fall below a certain number of survivors, like 20 or something--not sure what the exact number is. But honestly, if your units are down to that sort of level that they automerge, then their golden chevrons are useless anyway since they can't do too much damage anyway.

Also even if they didn't merge, once they reach such low numbers and they are retrained the unit will lose chevrons...

I must have it always off or something because I've never messed with that in the last 2-3 years. I thought the OP was referring to the automerging that takes place in units of size < 10.

Okay I didn't know about this feature. I'm assuming it's a certain percentage or raw number below which the unit is merged with any and all other such units. Anyway, I was just trying to explain to people that the soldiers DO NOT LOSE EXPERIENCE. The unit itself doesn't lose experience. It's simply showing the new average experience of all soldiers. That's why the total average experience of the unit displayed is 'lower', when in fact nothing has changed amongst individual soldiers...

Yes of course, but in the overall one might say: hey that unit was stronger!
That's why I wrote losing chevrons, new average was more correct...
Thank you ^^

If I retrain a unit, which has 50 of 120 men, the experience will not change.
If I retrain a unit with 15 of 120 men, it will lose experience.

Is this right and if yes, from which point do they lose experience when retraining?

Arjos

As Vartan said it is a matter of average in the experience of each soldier forming the unit...

The experience you see displayed on the unit card is the average experience of all soldiers within that unit.

Hmm, very strange, I never saw my men losing experience when retraining before.

Thanks for all the answers.
