Don't you think the rules turn alot of people off? Don't get me wrong, I completely agree with rules like the no run-throughs rule. But it gets awfully complicated you have to take this in account while playing.

I do, though, have a few questions about things you may or may not do.

In de single player campaign I use the phanlanx button twice when my phanlanx unit let down their spears (unwanted). So first to unequip the spears and the second time to equip them again. I assume this isn't allowed? As it isn't used in the ways you described in your rules.

And I aren't allowed to let heavy infantry run through my other heavy infantry unless they are in loose formation? So this rule does not only apply for the phanlanx units?

If loose formation give such messed up engagements, am I allowed to let archers/slinger/skirmishers be in loose formation? Cos when cavalry does manage to get around and flank my archer/slingers/skirmishers it will do little to none damage.

Hello!

When i first started MP it did indeed seem complicated but once you understand why these rules are in place , you don't really need to know them as you can feel them.

Concerning phalanx mode on/off. If your phalanx gets flanked or hit from behind , and it drops its spears to get swords , we assume that the phalanx lost it's spears and it would take a very long time until the formation would actually pick up the spears and reform the phalanx. That is why this is forbidden as unrealistic.
However if you are not attacked and disable phalanx then enable it again , there is no problem , as the phalanx just raise their spears and start running keeping their formation . if you form phalanx again , no probs , as they would only have to lower their spears.
The rule is in place just to prevent things like magic spears popping out in a middle of a fight where the phalanx is already in close melee as those things supposed to have 6 metres or more and cant be managed as easy as toothpicks.

Concerning walk-throughs
Anything can walk through anything and in any time in loose mode.only don't stack while attacking , as a fair-play rule.
In tight formation , you should avoid units to be one on top of the other to prevent things such as 3 merged units attacking a sole defensive unit. That we feel is an exploit.

However don't be too worried about rules strictness as the battles do get messy most of the time and unintentional mistakes are totally understandable . the rules are there to keep it fair as we don't want to see INTENDED things like heavy infantry going through another unit of enemy infantry ignoring it completely or huge unit stacking or any exploit like that.

Personally , it took me 2 games to avoid completely doing errors like that in the fire of battle. While MP you just don't want to see the opponent using every exploit of the game , but a fun and entertaining match.

Plz don't be discouraged about the rules , they are pretty straight-forward and promote rly good games. The july tournament was great fun with all factions showing their mettle in all kinds of tacs & strategies. Loved the diversity of fighting all kinds of factions , not just AI controlled Phalanx spam.

I think what Burebista is trying to say is: Don't be a ****. I'm sorry, but honestly, I don't know any better way to put it. Let me know if there is one, cause I'm sure there is. But really, guys, that's all it's about. It's about keeping the games entertaining as the whole shebang is one social event. I mean, the only thing that's missing is the beer.

On my end, I can say one really important thing: The rules, fair-play, gameplay or otherwise, are up for debate. And I mean UP FOR DEBATE. Big-time. In my eyes, there is no such as a final set of rules. This isn't a board game. It's not chess. There aren't a fixed, rigid set of rules. I mean, let us know if there's a missing thread or forum that we need to open up so that people can debate rules, but that's what Campus Martius is for. Y'all can openly debate things like this, and are encouraged to do so. By all means. Don't be shy y'all.

I hope he didn't want to say that (and I think it's unlikely he did), cos that's just plain rude and ridiculous. I don't know if this is strategy to lure people into playing EB online, but I can tell you it doesn't work and maybe even lost interrest.

Everybody knows the Total War series isn't a multiplayer games. It isn't made for online purposes so don't look so surprised, alot of people aren't interrested to play this online and I can't blame them. The battles are pretty clunky, have some annoying features, it isn't that balanced and have alot of glitches. Now don't be frustrated and call people a ****. Just accept that most people like EB for it's campaigns and not for the online feature.

Clown,

Please understand correctly, not incorrectly. Put the proposed event aside, because I don't really agree with it (I've talked to Bure about it). Again, what he was talking about was those rules that you question. I question them as well. And so do many people. And I say they should question it publicly so as to bring about a public debate, not a private one. And the rules aren't only gameplay rules, but fair play rules. There are also etiquette rules. You're not the ****. This isn't about you. The rules address people who, again, I have no words to describe. So you tell me. Or Bure, however he likes. Also, don't turn this into something it's not. You don't like online, not someone else. And game wasn't made for single or multi. Game was made for people to play. How they play it is their choice. Point is that they have a choice. Thanks be to CA.

Man , you've got it wrong. Nobody's calling nobody nothing. He meant to say just that the rules are to prevent players acting like a **** during gameplay and then coming up and saying that he didn't knew any rules in place.

And concerning MP battles , i have to say that they are way better than vanilla Rome. And far more interesting. If you want , check some MP battles on youtube and convince yourself.

I remind you , this is a friendly invitation . We only want to have as many enjoyable matches as possible. I am trully sorry if it seemed otherwise for you.

That's EXACTLY what I'm talking about. Do we actually need to do grammar diagramming for people to understand what others are talking about? I'm finding it every day that we need more language lessons and less video game tournaments. Sheesh...forget the whole darn thing. Every last letter.

If it was made for online purposes then why isn't it popular? Do you think when people watched the first trailers of total war they thought: 'Hey that makes a nice multiplayer game' ....? No they thought: "Wow I can conquer whole of europe" and play massive battles. Did CA promote the multiplayer feature? No they focused on the singleplayer and the multiplayer is a minor feature they created quickly. (Don't change they, people etc. into I or me or myself; I already get it that you won't believe me, but get the facts straight mate)

Don't know who told you that games don't have a purpose, cos every game has a main feature and some sidefeatures.

I am of the majority who doesn't thinktotal war is an online game, so that allows me to say it in plural. And you are completely right about that people have a choice and it's clearly which choice they have made (since I am the only non-multiplayer person who posts here, and as no one else except you and your online mates to contradict me) and you got to respect that.

I don't know why you're so deluded and unwilling to accept things as how they are.

What are you ON about? The guy was just inviting people to a simple multiplayer event that he came up with. Are you trying to discourage him? Can you be clear as to that regard? His MP event proposition is as simple as it gets. Does he not deserve to try? Is there something in CA's end user license agreement that says that he isn't allowed to do that? You're probably more than correct as to what the purpose of the game is, etc., but that's irrelevant. This isn't about the purpose of the game, it's about an MP event that one guy is wishing to promote. Imagine this: A guy is driving on a road, and there is absolutely no traffic. And you are capable of incredible strength. Although you have no reason to do so, you place a huge concrete barrier, 3 metres thick, along the road so that when he arrives he can't go past it and he would literally crash into it if he were to continue driving. My question is: Why in the world would you (or anyone) do something like that? I can't seem to wrap my (apparently puny) mind around that fact. I can't fathom it.

Why can't I explain what a reason could be/is why there aren't reacting alot of people. Is it wrong of me to elaborate? I don't discourage anyone, just telling facts. Tell me if you are a judge at Idols or on of those programs and you meet a contestant who isn't talented; you would say that he isn't good. That's not discouraging, that's the (maybe) hard truth.

Sorry if I have discouraged you in any way, that's not my intention. But I haven't done anything wrong.

I was hoping it wasn't your intention. Anyway, if you wish to say similar things (and mind you, they do ruin and hurt people's genuine attempts at starting these events, which are VERY hard to gather support for), please PM me or anyone who started the events instead of saying things that would turn away any and all people who already had slightest of hopes of entering such events. It would be highly appreciated.

I respect your oppinion but i know that nothing gets the blood flowing like that one , critical moment , in the online battle when the match is either won/lost on one big decision.
the adrenaline rush is rly something and even after the game has ended your mind doesn't stop wondering "how could i have done it differently to make it better?"

At least for me. beating the AI to a pulp doesn't do much for me sry
