Ok it's nothing fancy with new units or anything and only meant for customs/mp battles.

MTW already has most of the unit types used in early renaissance so, trying to recreate this era, the main idea has been to balance things like unit cost/sizes/stats and missile power.

Hi CBR,

Looks nice. I currently have an Italian Wars Historical Campaign in a semi completed stage of develepment (I'm waiting to see if the VI AI will stop the mandatory trundle to the high ground&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

One question. Whatever happened to French Gascon XBowmen? these units featured prominently in Charles VIII armies - and have a reasonable melee value too (far more so than the MTW default stat's for French XBowmen would suggest).

Hmm good question. IIRC we still hear about them at the Battle of Marignano (1515) but at Pavia (1525) it looks like crossbows have disappeared and the arquebus had replaced it.

I dont know much about melee value really. Yes they could fight..most light troops had a sword and buckler so I guess thats the same for the Gascons.

Very good... I have a feeling it will be a well played mod. It is simple, small and many people crave the time.

Yes.

At Pavia it appears no Gascon XBowmen were fielded. Then again it was an amry of Francis I.

At Marignano the same Francis I fielded 2000 Gascon Xbowmen out of an army of around 15,000. Of this total 9,000 were landscnecht pikemen and 4,000 French pikes - therefore a figure of 2,000 Gascon Xbows is significant in terms of the French contigent.

If you go 2 years earlier (Novara - 6th June 1513)just after the deasth oif CHarles VII you'llfind a French army of 12,000 men consisted of -

1,000 Gendarmes
1,000 Stradiots
6,000 landschecht pikemen
2,000 Gascon Xbows
2,000 Navarrese Xbows.

In other words ALL the French infantry were Xbows (or defined as such). The truth is they were basic French infantry who whilst possessing a missile power were equally adept at close quarter fighting.

Anyway, CBR. It's really nice to see an Italian Wars mod and I know many MP players will really appreciate this.

OFF TOPIC=I have alot of historical background on the Landsknechte Pikemen etc. I want to make just such a unit also a doppelsoldner they were swordsmen with a 66 inch zweihander sword who were payed extra to charge at enemy pike lines jst a thought.I would like to put them in my Swiss Mod
